Comfort inn Complaint - Total Disappointment For 2 Nites Stay In Somerset, PA

Review by lbittner261 on 2011-05-29
May 27 thru May 29.

Power outage in Comfort Inn only. 3 hours of smoke detector buzzing before husband complained for the second time. No refrigerator, bath drain clogged, toilet coming away from the wall, sheets smelled, pillows and mattresses very uncomfortable, no cups for room coffee maker. Vacation from hell!!!!

This cannot be a 3 1/2 or 4 star hotel. We will never go another Comfort in and wish some re-inbursement.

Comfort Inn is one step above Motel 6. I would of left.

Did anyone claim that it was a 3 1/2 or 4 star hotel? I've never heard of a Comfort Inn that was considered that many stars.

Did you ask for reimbursement? It definitely sounds like you were entitled to something back, especially for the power outage, but you normally need to ask for that. And I don't mean by asking on a site like this.

Before booking the room for two nights did you check to make certain a refrigerator was to be in the room if you needed one or do all Comfort Inn rooms come with a refrigerator? I really don't know and that's one thing I don't expect with a room, some people do...I don't. No cups for the room coffeemaker. Did you call the lobby to ask for some? Could the Comfort Inn done something about the power loss?

If I appear to be criticizing you rather than Comfort Inn, I'm not. I'm just trying to ask some additional questions. I fully agree you shouldn't have a bath drain clogged, toilet coming away from the wall, and smelly bed linens. Sometimes changing motels is not as easy as it appears to some if every other place is booked up or you can't get a refund.

Who told you it was a 3.5 or 4 star?

There was a man staying the night in a hotel. He called the front desk and said,
"Excuse me, sir, I've got a leak in my sink."
The man at the front desk replied, "Oh, okay, go ahead, but most guests just use the toilet."

Maybe this location should be called "Discomfort Inn". With no electricity and other room problems, your rental charges should be refunded or reduced.

It is not reasonable to condemn a whole chain because of one location. I travel the southeast U.S. and found that in some places Comfort is the place to stay, others, Holiday Inn, others, Hampton etc. Since most are "franchised" operations, you can have very different experiences. Unfortunately, for infrequent travelers or users of web sites for locating services, it's a gamble.

We stay at Choice Hotels (Comfort Inn, QualityInn, SleepInn) almost exclusively due to earning reward nights. In all the years of staying we have only been disappointed once. The front desk people at the Quality Inn were less than pleasant. The rooms were OK and we had the reward night (a free stay). I wrote a letter to the manager of the hotel explaining my total disappointment with the hotel and got the surprise of my life. She actually wrote back, apoligized for the staff, said steps would be taken to be sure it was corrected and gave us a letter for a FREE stay the next time we passed through. I now believe the customer satisfaction is alive and well if the problem is presented in a non-confrontational way. I have great respect for this manager and intend to use the FREE offer.
