Budget Rent-A-Car Complaint - Dishonest, Dirty, and Rude
ROMULUS, MICHIGAN -- I made a car rental reservation for Detroit's Metro airport for the weekend of 5/28/11. Now, in all seriousness, I was flying into town to see my dying mother. No lie. I had to have everything go smoothly.
Because two years ago I filed a Chapter 13, I use only a debit card now and was concerned that this might be a problem. So, I called Budget and inquired about this. I was assured this was no problem whatsoever. I also checked their website, and found nothing to be concerned about.
With that said, on the date above I walked into their facility. It was dirty, smelly, ugly and there was a line of about 30 people, with 3 reps who seemed surly, tired and ignorant. I waited more than an hour to get to the counter. When I did, my representative could not accurately type my confirmation number into the system after 6 tries. Finally, he got it together...then began typing something else. I assumed processing my car. Next thing I know he says "We can't give you a car, you failed our credit check". Excuse me? A: Who authorized you to run my credit, B: Why are you doing that and C: Why are you being such a rude jag-off? He just told me, too bad, this is what we do with debit cards...see ya.
So here I was late, trying to get to the hospice (again, no lie) and stranded at the airport. I ran across the street to Enterprise where it was clean, nice, super professional and with no reservation at all, I was literally in a car and driving in 10 min. Thank God.
I contacted Budget today to complain and their response, no kidding, was hey, cars are expensive, you expect us to give them to just anyone? Not even any concern that I called and asked in advance, or the rudeness, or anything. They told me use somebody else.
I'll warn anyone not to use them. If this was my experience, I don't know how anybody, good credit or no, can trust them to keep their rental commitments.
