Maytag/Whirlpool Complaint - If you buy Maytag, buy extended warranty - Refrigerator Model #MBL2256KES5

Refrigerator Model #MBL2256KES5 - Complaint
Review by Art4Scots on 2011-06-02
I purchased Maytag bottom-freezer-drawer fridge #MBL2256KES5 a little over a year ago online from HomeDepot.com. Top part stopped cooling 26 days past warranty date. 26 DAYS!

Really? This is the best they can do? Yes, it is. Oh, they did offer to schedule a repair - with what must be a very-very-very-busy Maytag repairman, not the "lonely" one you may have seen on their ads.

Now that I'm reading various websites, I see our scenario is actually better than average, with most having all sorts of problems with Maytag during the one-year warranty period. (Didn't buy the extended warranty since consumers' advocate groups consistently recommend against it.) Shame on me for not paying attention to these published horror stories BEFORE I bought. I will never, ever consider buying a Maytag appliance again and will discourage everyone I know from doing so.

What seems to be the problem with the unit, and what is the model number?

i wouldn't panic. Many appliances have had an early service call to correct a problem, and run trouble free for years thereafter. Yes, Maytag has its share of unhappy owners, but all brands have people who had bad experiences if you look for them. Your described problem probably was a minor issue preventing air to circulate to the fresh food section. A vent door or thermostat perhaps. Hopefully you will have no problems here on.

I have a new 10 cubic ft refrigerator, Maytag ( 10 hrs. ) Are the sides supposed to be hot ? Customer service is closed until Monday. I hope it doesn't catch on fire.

ambrosia, feeling heat on the outside or in between the freezer and fridge is normal due to the heating element inside the walls of your fridge. This heater is there to eliminate any condensation that may occur inside the walls and insulation of the fridge.
