Tao (New York City) Complaint - Total Service Failures

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- I drove 3 hours to Tao’s New York City restaurant to have a going away dinner for a very good friend of mine. The service was the absolute worst I have ever encountered. In addition to being abandoned by our server, the staff was uneducated on the modes of food preparation, as well as unwilling to accommodate any requests I made, including cleaning up a spill under the table.
I sent a certified letter to both restaurant locations, as this was a restaurant for which I had great admiration. The manager of the New York location responded with offering me a $50.00 gift card—AN ABSURD ATTEMPT OF MAKING AN APOLOGY!
I have no problem paying for service that is pleasing and hospitable... this was not the case. I cannot stress enough rethinking dinner here. Tao has betrayed a loyal customer and completely lost my trust!

Just out of curiousity, how absurd was the $50.00? I have heard of this place even from Colorado. So, I imagine it would be pretty pricey and $50 is just a bone.
