Verizon Wireless Complaint - Verizon ripped me off!
First I have never made a formal complaint against a company/corporation in my 50 year life. I believe in personal responsibility, realize mistakes happen, and go on. I am actually pro-corporation, but in this case the actions of Verizon Wireless were so bad that others need to know what happened.
On May 2nd 2011 I contacted the Customer Loyalty Dept. of Verizon for an upgrade and two year contract extension. Having been with Verizon since 1999 I felt I should negotiate hard and did so. After a 52 minute call I was pleased that a deal was struck. Basically I was to get a discount of $9.99 per month on the data package for the full 24 months of the new contract.
Upon receiving my first bill, I immediately phoned Verizon to ask why the discount didn't show up. Two weeks later, after three escalated calls and six other calls I finally secured the terms. In the interim I was told that they didn't offer such a discount and if they did it would only be for 12 months and would have required an upgraded (read more expensive) text package.
I practically begged them to listen to the recorded message from my initial contact and review the terms promised to me. Three separate times I was told they would review the recording and get back to me within a specified time frame. They never responded!!! When I told them this was becoming too much trouble and asked to get out of the contract I was informed I was one day past the 14 day grace period for cancellation and would need to pay an early termination fee (ETF). I explained that my first bill had not arrived until the 15th day upon which I phoned them immediately.
Verizon Wireless was in breach of contract and I had no way out without paying a fine. Finally they acceded to their original offer and then came the kicker. I contacted Technical Support to address issues with the phone specifically and all of my contact information was wiped out from my phone by the technician. I got an "oops..sorry about that". I was then told that the phone must have been no good and they would send me another. But then I was told the phone would be a used, refurbished one.
That was it. I informed them I will terminate and pay the fee. I will never do business with Verizon again and will dissuade everyone I know to never do business with them. I may have to pay now but I guarantee I will take business away from them for as long as I live.
