NeatDesk Compliment - It Does What They Say It Does
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA -- The ads for this product, which are everywhere just now, make stunning claims. They say the product will not only allow you to scan into a data base they provide whatever documents you wish, but will either do optical character recognition (OCR) on the first page of a document, or on the entire document. Plus, they say, it will scan front and back. All of the foregoing for about $400, they say.
Given that, as far as I know, decent OCR software and a decent data base cost a lot more than $400, and scanners that do front-and-back scanning aren't free either, I decided to try the system on their 30-day trial offer, but I expected to send it back, because I really didn't think it would work as advertised.
Well, IT DOES, and I'm keeping it. In just a month's usage the thing has proved invaluable by making available records I would never have even kept in a paper file. I love it, and recommend it highly.
And I'm not even the primary market for the system. If you travel extensively on business you'll find it extremely valuable. It lets you scan in all your receipts and all the business cards you receive, and it keeps an address book and automatically produces and emails an expense report.
