FLINT, MICHIGAN -- I agree. I think if we as students get together and speak out we will have more of a chance. I have been dealing with the schools crap ever since I started and keep getting the run around. I have heard so many students are out raged with school. Seriously, I have been trying to reach out to the superiors at the school and get no where. The more voices there are the more likely we will be able to reach our end goal and get the school to do something to help us.

FLINT, MICHIGAN -- This seriously is the worst college I have ever seen. How they can still be accredited, this school messes with your schedule, doesn't tell you what you need until after class has started. Then when there are exams or quizzes, none of the material in the books or paper were on there. The instructors are never available for questions. The others in my Anatomy/Physiology 1 and 2 have already taken the class 2 other times. This speaks volumes.

Run Away From This School

AUBURN HILLS, MICHIGAN -- When I see the word college after the name I have certain expectations. My high school was harder than this college. The credits you earn from baker will not transfer to any other college/university ( the school is not transparent about this) once you start at this school you will never be able to leave it. This is a diploma mill school, they claim they are non profit, this is a farce.

Don't Waste Your Money on Baker College
By -

AUBURN HILLS, MICHIGAN -- I have attended Baker College of Auburn Hills for almost 5 years, just trying to obtain my Bachelors degree. I do have to say that they've had some amazing instructors and I wish them the best. However, Baker College is a scam and a joke. They advertise affordable tuition and classes that fit the working adults schedule. HA!!! Those are lies. The financial aid advisors are uneducated about student problems. They are improperly trained and the head of the department condones this!

When it comes to class availability, that doesn't happen. I had 5 classes left including and internship and they weren't offering them at all, except during fall quarter when they offered all 5 on the same night. I was told that I should have scheduled better and there was nothing they would do. I spoke to the Dean and he told me there were 3500 other students they were worried about and I was not one of them.

I registered a complaint with the BBB and Baker told them there was nothing they could do for me. I should have taken the classes when they were offered. It's hard to take 5 classes in one night! I was told I would have to travel to a different campus that was 45 minutes away if I wanted to graduate. I was finally able to get 2 of my classes that I need after much stress and frustration.

I was recently sick with the flu and could not make it to the class. The assignment was stated in the syllabus as worth 10 points. I figured that it wouldn't hurt my grade too much to miss it or hopefully should would work with me on doing something to make it up. She emailed me 12 hours after I sent the email and 2 hours after the class started saying that the assignment was worth 100 points and not 10. It was going to drop my grade significantly and that I should be advised.

I will say that this class was an independent study because no one else, at this time, was able to take this class. This school dishes out threats, false advertisements, and poorly trained staff. Please beware that you will not get a good education here. You will be too busy trying to get what you're paying for!

Online Classes Are Not Flexible
By -

ONLINE, MICHIGAN -- I graduated form ground campus, with AA degree on General Business on 2009. When I register with them, they told me they are going to help me to find a job. But at that time I did not need it because I was working, but when I lost my job and I need it/them to help me, they were not there for me. They just direct you to their websites, where suppose different companies they are hiring, but I don't see to get hired. So I decided to get back to college to get my BA degree but this time I am taking online classes.

Again according to their advertisement, it say that the online classes are flexible, which when I got in I thought it was okay, until I got some instructors who don't give you credit for the work because is five minutes late - so I don't call that flexible. If a class is six week, or 12 weeks, the student should be able to tuned their work at any time before the weeks are over, like Phoenix University do it, because most online students are adult working student.

Yes you do the time management, but there are days that things don't work the way you planned. For example you have sick children, or you are six, and if you attend it halfway in class and you get sick, you have no choice but to drop out and don't get any money back. But if the student turned the work before the weeks are over, it gives the student more time to do their home work. For example, most of us, we have two days off work - in those two days, most students spend it to catch up with the homework and assignment.

There been many classes I have to drop out because of the "Flexibility"! I have five more classes to graduate with BA degree, and I don't expect them to find me a job, especially now I lived in Florida, because they already told me that they don't work with companies out of Michigan where their home state is.

OK Experience...
By -

I attended Baker College Online for three years and I obtained my Bachelors Degree last Spring. Although I had a pretty good experience, looking back on it, I would have gone to a traditional college or university had I put more thought into it. The good thing about Baker is their curriculum can be compared to that of a top 10 university or college, I know this because I work at one. I didn't attend school there because they don't offer online degrees.

All of the professors that I had at Baker held at least a Master's degree; most of them had a PhD. I had a few bad instructors, one did not interact with the class at all and the other two were just messy. That is a vague word, but it is the only one I can think of to describe them right now.

I do feel like the quality of the education I received at Baker was excellent; however, Baker is not flexible and this is what many adults are looking for in an online setting. The participation requirements become unreasonable especially when you have a professor that wants detailed responses (150-200 words minimum) at least two times a day, 5 days a week. Since participation often makes up 30-40% of your overall grade, you can receive really bad scores because of this. THAT IS A MAJOR DOWNSIDE TO BAKER COLLEGE. In addition to this, some of the professors expect you to submit homework assignments 4-5 times a week and this is extreme for an online school.

The other downside to Baker is the cost. They boast about how their classes are cheaper than most institutions, and they are BUT you have to have more credit hours to graduate so it ends up being a little bit less or about the same in cost. It will also take you much longer to graduate unless you are constantly going to school all year with no breaks because they operate in quarter hours. I had an OK experience at Baker and as stated before, I learned a lot. I already have a job making twice the amount that I earned before I graduated; however, I would not recommend the school to working adults with families at all.

Horrible Experience, Complete Nightmare and Waste of Time!

CLINTON TOWNSHIP/ALLEN PARK, MICHIGAN -- After 3 years of getting poor advice from academic advisors, financial aid, and instructors alike, I felt dejected and so ripped off! Not only money, but time as well. I am an older student going back to school, but after last semester I am no longer willing to affiliate with Baker College. I have transferred to another school and I hope to apply for 3 different programs this coming February.

Waste of time and money. Baker is horribly run with some of the worst instructors (I cannot believe some of them are seen fit to teach grade school level much less college level). I had a few good ones, but mainly inadequate and obviously not qualified. Academic advisors telling you to drop a class "immediately, like today or by noon tomorrow" and then having an instructor give out 50+ points in the 10th week, basically handing people entry into a particular program - being lied to outright by the acting Dean of Health Sciences because the original Dean left last minute. It was a terrible experience and would not suggest anyone waste 1 minute going to Baker.

Add to it, they keep anything you don't use in financial aid and it supposedly "goes back into the pool to help other students." After 3 years of looking, I could not find any "other students." Save time, energy and money and go to OCC, WCCC, or MCCC. You'd be better off in the long run.

Baker College Gives Misleading Statements About Their "98% Employed"
By -

MICHIGAN -- A prior review mentioned they felt Baker's claim of 98% of their graduates are employed. I went to Baker College in Cadillac for over two years about five years ago. At the end of my certificate program, I took a required course called "Career Strategies". During this course, a fellow student mentioned this claim to the speaker (**) and her response amounted to: the 98% doesn't necessarily mean in your field of study!!

I went to Baker thinking I would be working in Medical Billing when I became certified. The ad's are so convincing....but what a crock! If you are employed when you start at Baker, you're already in that 98% and one of their great success stories. It's a wonder they haven't been sued for false advertising.

Baker College AAS Medical Degrees - Limited Enrollment Caution
By -

When considering pursuing admission into a "Limited Enrollment/Restricted Enrollment" medical program at Baker College, make sure you fully understand the criteria for gaining admittance. Ask questions upfront. Don't make assumptions. Make sure you meet with the Dean or Program Director to determine how well you need to do on the prerequisites, expected performance on the entrance exam, impact of transferring in classes from another university and the impact of repeating any prerequisite courses.

If entrance is based on a total point count, inquire what the range was for the highest and lowest student admitted to the prior year program start up. That way, you'll know what you have to target in the way of your performance. Do not strictly accept an answer that admission is based on competitive standing amongst the applicants. Dig for feedback. The economy has pushed many people back to school. Competition is strong amongst peers. You may be surprised how well you need to perform in order to get in to the program of your choice. Best of luck to you!

Financial Office
By -

OWOSSO, MICHIGAN -- My daughter had to drop a class that she had attended two times. She called the financial dept. and was told exactly what to do. She did not receive any financial aid or money from student loan since she also notified them. Baker College has since told my daughter that she owes for the classes that she could only attend two times. We have contacted them several times to no avail. We have also gone through the corporate office. Her school in Owosso, MI was very upset with this. I do not believe this is right to pay for something that she signed papers on that she had to drop and did not receive any financial money for. We will not use Baker College again.
