SELF EMPLOYED, CALIFORNIA -- I had a car loan with Fifth Third Bank. I paid off the loan and sold the car. The loan amount showed $0.0 and they obtained funds from my bank account. However, they hold processing the title for 10 days and another 10 days to send out the title. The representative on the phone was polite and explained he was not able to do anything even he saw the loan was paid. off. Any other bank can send you the title within a day after paying off the loan. Very inefficient. Do not recommend to get a car loan with them. No matter how low interest rate Fifth Third offers, I will not finance with them at all. Do not recommend this bank either...

COLLIER-LEE COUNTIES, FLORIDA -- 53 no longer meets my needs. The convenience of a branch in my subdivision used to be significant but they made a corporate decision to close all those branches. They used to open at 8 AM, so I could use the drive-in on the way to work, but they changed opening to 9AM and eliminated Saturday morning hours. Next I tried mobile deposits but they set an arbitrary limit of $7,000 per month in mobile deposits. (That's DEPOSITS, not withdrawals, and it's AMOUNT, not frequency!)

In addition, they wanted to charge me for using non-53 ATMs. Direct deposit is not an option as I am self-employed and my checks come from a variety of sources. With no other options, I opened (free!) small checking accounts with Ally and USAA. Will see how these two measure up after a few months, at which time I will probably transfer all of my assets to one of them.

Balance Transfer Scam

Fifth Third Bank offered me a balance transfer offer that included a "special" 3% balance transfer fee (many credit card companies offer 0% balance transfer fees) and 0%, 12 month APR. I was given checks to use to take advantage of the balance transfer offer. The checks expired May 25, 2017. I issued a check to another creditor to resolve a balance before the check expiration date. Fifth Third Bank claims the check was processed by the other creditor after May 25, 2017. They did not offer me the balance transfer offer and ultimately charged me their standard 4% balance transfer fee ($180) and standard 19% interest charges on the balance transferred to my account, resulting in $257.99 in interest. I have a credit score of over 750 and could've pay off my entire balance at a slight inconvenience. I wouldn't have taken their offer if the marketing was clear and I knew they would make every attempt to postpone the processing of their balance transfer offer check.

Auto Financing

NEVER would I EVER use this bank for ANYTHING! I financed an auto loan in November. When I received my payment information in the mail in December, I immediately paid off the loan in full. Then I started receiving letters in the mail stating that I still owed on my vehicle and was due to make a payment of $556.00. I called multiple times and spoke with different associates who told me that my balance was $133.30 due to interest or the timing of the billing, etc.. I paid that amount off March 7th. Here we are now in May and I have yet to receive my title and I am still receiving letters stating that I am due to make a payment.

When calling to speak with an associate, I am told that I still owe $1 on the account and that is the reason that they have not sent me my title. I had to speak with 2 separate supervisors regarding this issue, both of whom were not helpful. I do NOT suggest anyone use this bank for ANYTHING! Worst experience I have ever had!

Holding a Check Deposited While My Bills Are All Being Returned Keeping Me Overdrawn

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- Fifth Third Bank is holding a check from my father, given to me to get me out of a hole. Meanwhile, I have more and more overdraft fees building up. They have the money, it's been taken out of his account. But because I'd had several overdrafts, they would not make the money available to me for another ten days. Meanwhile, I have more items being overdrawn and I'm responsible for those fees. How can criminal behavior like this be tolerated? The money is out of my dad's account, It even shows being deposited into my account, but they've put a 10 day hold on the money, racking up those overdraft fees at $37 bucks a pop. I need help!

Undisclosed "made up" fees

CINCINNATI, OHIO -- I paid off my mortgage and asked for a refund of the unused funds remaining in escrow. Inexplicably, 5-3 kept a portion of the funds and denied doing so. When I questioned the discrepancy, the representative told me my calculations were faulty but his calculations resulted in the same discrepancy. When I pressed for an explanation, he eventually claimed that the money was taken to satisfy an "account fee" but he was unable give me any information about the alleged fee. There is no mention of any such fee in any of the loan documents or correspondence. The representative refused to let me speak to a supervisor and ultimately terminated the call.

5/3 Bank Unethical/Screwed - Up Refinance
By -

FT MYERS, FLORIDA -- This occurred in Ft. Myers Florida 5/3 Bank Colonial office in Dec 2005. My husband (my fiance at the time) had some debts and wanted to refinance one of his properties to pay off the debts as we wanted to build a custom home and needed the debts paid off to qualify for a construction loan.

My husband met with the loan officer at the Colonial Branch of 5/3 Bank and where he reviewed my husbands debts (several credit cards and one equity loan). My husband said that the officer seemed to be quite competent and added up the debt and said my husband needed to refinance BOTH of his properties in order to pay off the various credit cards and Suntrust equity loan so my husband said okay.

After the closings my husband came home and complained that it had seemed quite disorganized and unprofessional and that 5/3 Bank was to mail out the checks to the various creditors. He had no conformation or copies of the checks that were to be mailed out to his creditors and instructed me to keep a close eye and make sure the bills indeed had been paid, which I did. The credit cards were paid but I soon noticed that we had a very large credit (close to $20,000) on his SunTrust account. When I pointed it out to him he said, just wait it may be a bank error and they will catch it.

Well this went on for two more months until we caught on and asked for SunTrust to mail us the $20,000 credit. This is what had happened. Two checks for $20,000 had been sent to SunTrust by 5/3 Bank. There had NOT been any need to refinance BOTH properties as the refinance of one would have covered all his debt. Because of incompetence or greed (the loan officer wanted two commissions instead of one) the loan officer had refinanced both properties and we had paid for a refinance that had NOT been necessary. That fiasco cost my husband at least $5,000.

I called and complained to the loan officer on one occasion and he said "he would look into it"...I complained to the branch in Ft. Myers and they said "they would look into it". We are now living in the Tampa Bay area and here at the Seffner 5/3 branch I complained to the Bank Manager and he washed his hands off it and did not even bother to say "I'll look into it".

We would never have refinanced the Ft. Myers house if we had known it was not necessary to qualify for the construction loan as we needed o sell that house to build the new one anyway. As it was we refinanced the Ft. Myers house in Dec 2005 and it was sold in April 2006. I feel by husband was duped or cheated out of at least $5,000 for an unnecessary refinance due to the incompetence or greediness of 5/3 Bank or it's loan officer and we want the costs of refinancing the Ft. Myers house REFUNDED immediately. If this post does not attract any attention within 30 days, we will contact an attorney and 5/3 Bank will pay a lot more.

TEXAS -- Their system to make payments is failed. Their customer service is horrible. My online password keeps getting changed without my consent. They refuse to address or acknowledge the issue. Then they add late charges when my payment fails to go through. Please do not use this bank for anything. You will be sorry if you do. I would select 0 stars if it were an option.
