Poor Customer Service

CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA -- We made some major appliance purchases at Lowe's, which we eventually regretted. Expecting delivery a week later, one of four items arrived. Calling the store we were informed two of the items were on back order and we might expect them in six to eight weeks. The fourth item could not be located. The department manager was as useful as holding a tennis racket over your head to block the rain. When the items were ordered the salesperson should have informed us of the back orders.

Finally contacting the store manager we had a resolve to a very frustrating situation. Albeit, another week passed before we had two of the three remaining items. Oh, we canceled one of the items and instead purchased it at Home Depot. The floor staff at Lowe's seem to be frustrated with customer service. On the other hand, everybody seems too happy with going the extra distance to assist at Home Depot. Lowe's is good for purchasing batteries or duct tape. But, Home Depot gets our big bucks.

No Estimate For Water Heater Installation

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA -- I contacted Lowe's to install a water heater, or more specifically to do a measurement so that an estimate could be made. My wife felt that this would be better to deal with Lowe's, since they have a reputation to protect. After 2 days they showed up to do the measurement and said that they would get back with an estimate. The person doing the measuring seemed young and was proposing moving the water heater. It didn't seem like he wanted the job. It is now 3 more days later and still no estimate. I guess they felt the job was too hard to bid on.

In the meantime Home Depot did the job in under two hours (after a four day delay - New Year holiday - and later than they said - it was raining). I thought Lowe's should have been able to easily beat the Home Depot installer because of their delays, but I was wrong and glad that I put the bid out to both stores. I don't know about you, but just about the only reason for someone to buy a water heater is that the old one stopped working. You don't buy them for increased efficiency or because you want it in a different color. You'd think that the plumbers/installers that home improvement stores hire would do the job quickly. Home Depot even advertises same day installation (with a bunch of caveats).

Lowe's should get their act together. Re-evaluate this particular installer and institute some sort of response guarantee. If holiday scheduling will affect the response, communicate that to the customer or provide an option for emergency service. To their credit Lowe's did reimburse the measuring fee, but I don't really care about that. I wanted a water heater pronto. I also wanted a little respect for putting my trust in their company. I got neither from Lowe's and that is too bad. Next time I'll use a real plumber.

Faulty Countertops

COTATI, CALIFORNIA -- We purchased SILESTONE (COSENTINO) (Roseville, Ca) counter tops for our kitchen remodel from LOWES (Cotati Ca.) on 3/4/2016. After discussing different installation options, we chose to use Lowes installer which was COUNTER FIT (Sacramento Ca.). All 3 of these companies knowingly sold / installed an inferior countertop which came with a useless 20-year warranty.

The SILESTONE countertops were installed by COUNTER FIT on 3/28/2016.

Fast forward to Thanksgiving 2017 – YES, a mere 20 MONTHS after the installation. While cleaning the kitchen my wife noticed an approximately 6-inch crack running from the corner seam (were countertops make a 90-degree bend along wall) towards the sink. This spot of the counter top is in what we refer to as “no mans land” meaning the only thing you place in the corner were the crack is located is a picture or napkin basket. No cooking, No prepping, No washing of any items, nothing happens use-wise in this area of the kitchen and there is a visible crack. Just for the record my house was built in 1952 so I am not going to buy the “house settling” story.

No worries I thought (Big Mistake), we have a 20 Year warranty and it has only been 20 Months…. No problem – Right? Absolutely Wrong. This is where all three companies – SILESTONE (COSENTINO), COUNTER FIT & LOWES have collected their monies and now do not give two cents about the crappy product and crappy warranty they have sold and installed in your home – That's Customer Care at its best.

I emailed Lowes kitchen design department first 11/27/2017 to report the problem, they emailed SILESTONE (COSENTINO) which in turn issued a warranty claim number. SILESTONE (COSENTINO) advised that the installer - COUNTER FIT would need to come out and inspect the crack. No problem, just let me know when and I would be there. Keep in mind this was November of 2017, No one ever contacted me to come out and inspect the problem. I have over a dozen emails for exactly 1 year where I am trying to get some sort of response from any of the 3 companies that profited from this transaction and NONE of them have responded.

Today I sent yet another inquiry in regards to the warranty and finally received a response from COUNTER FIT that the warranty claim had been denied as it was “Not a Manufacture Defect”…..What?…OK…what is it then is my question with no response. I guess a crack in an expensive counter top stone is normal after 20 months?

After reviewing online complaints (www.complaintboards.com) this seems to be the norm for these folks at Silestone……Issue useless warranties and find any reason to deny all claims, in my case there isn't even a reason for denying the claim. No one came out and inspected the crack. The claim was just denied after the Silestone countertop cracked within 20 Months of install. Please stay away from all 3 companies stated above as they all are dishonest companies that need to learn a lesson in CUSTOMER SERVICE and HONEST DEALINGS. BUYER BEWARE.

SPRING LAKE, MICHIGAN -- A year ago, Lowe's installed a new floor in our home. We paid promptly. The floor is defective. We've been trying for a full year to get Lowe's to fix the floor, dozens of letters, phone calls and emails, and they ignored us. Lowe's contracts have a clause forbidding the customer from suing them. Anyone doing business with Lowe's should be aware that when they screw up, you are also screwed. All they have to do is ignore you.

Kitchen Counter Tops

TENNESSEE -- Purchased quartz countertops in Jackson TN who contracts with Designers Choice Inc. in Mississippi. During transport to Jackson the sink countertop broke into four pieces, the installers stopped to glue all pieces back together, additionally a smaller top had the corner broken out (the size of a nickel) and was repaired with black epoxy (on a white and gray piece of quartz). The installers actually tried to install these damaged pieces and I stopped them.

The company fought me for a month not wanting to replace any of it. Lowe's intermediate was of little assistance until I contacted the store manager directly, at which time action occurred. This experience cost five additional weeks, delaying the sale of my home. Do not purchase countertops from Lowe's in Jackson, Tn. Not all Lowe's use the same manufacturers.

Lowe's use of contractors is Problematic

COLUMBUS, OHIO -- My worst experience working with Lowe's and their contractors to remodel a bathroom.

Theresa: Lowe's Sales/Interior Design
Mark: Lowe's Central Installation Manager
Jimmy: Lowe's Store Manager
Chris: UHS General Contracting

My wife and I stopped at Lowe's Polaris store in Columbus, OH towards the end of June to getting an estimate on a bathroom remodeled. We told Theresa what we wanted to do and looked at the products that they had available. Keep in mind as you read my review that our bathroom is small (5' x 8'). We wanted to replace the vanity, toilet, bathtub, shower hardware, lighting\ceiling fan, and to tile the floor and bathtub walls. We also told them that we have several other projects that we want to do (kitchen remodel, replace all interior doors and trim, replace our very large deck.

Theresa and Chris came out to our house to look at our existing bathroom and get measurements. Theresa Drew up the plans and we approved them. I paid for the labor and materials on July 5, 2018. Total cost was almost $11,000. Yes, for a 5x8 bathroom with no gold in it. There is nothing extravagant about it, just basic materials.

The materials were finally delivered on August 18 2018. Theresa and Chris came back out to inventory the delivered materials on 8/22/2018. It was found that the vanity top was the wrong size and the new bathtub had a chip out of it. They had to be replaced. They confirmed that evening that the remodel would start on 8/27/2018 and that it would take three weeks to finish. We discussed why it would take 3 weeks to remodel a small bathroom. Their example of why, was that there would be times when they could only work part of a day because they would have to pause for things like when they patched a wall with spackling, they needed it to dry before they continue. They said nothing about many days where nothing would be happening, just waiting for the contractors.

We agreed to leave the door from the garage to the house unlocked and gave them the code for our garage door. They missed the first week completely. They said that they came out once but the code for the garage door didn't work. They wrote it down wrong. This left 2 weeks to finish the job on time. Long story short, they didn't make the completion date on time, it took them more than 5 weeks to complete. Actually they did not finish, I had to buy the shower bar and install it myself. They originally ordered a shower bar that required them to drill through the newly laid tile. I asked them to replace this with a tension control shower bar but I guess that they didn't want to do that.

During the installation, we found that the exhaust fan\LED light that THEY ordered was too small for the opening and left a gaping hole in the ceiling. They eventually replaced it after lots of complaining.

They had the dumpster removed on 10/01/2018 (at 6:00AM pitch black out). In doing so, they tore up some of our yard with deep tracks in it. They also left a pile of trash behind (in our garage) that I am going to have to deal with now.
They missed more days than they worked, that's why it took more than 5 weeks to complete. We sent emails, called, or personally visited them in store (Theresa, Chris, Mark, Jimmy) at LEAST once a week and got NO response except for Mark. Mark made promises to improve the service, but it never happened. The store manager was the same, empty promises. We NEVER heard back from the Sales contact. Once the purchase was made, she was silent. They didn't communicate at all, and when they did, many times they texted me a second time, the night before they were suppose to show up, to cancel and re-schedule, missing another day of work.

Overall, once the sale is made (they get their money), Lowe's doesn't care about the customer! I will never use them again. Go HOME DEPOT!
