Sharper Image Charges customers to Make Ionic Breeze Safe for Consumer Use

After paying several hundred dollars for these machines that are later discovered to be producing dangerous levels of ozone in my home I then find out that to make these “health threatening” machines safer I have to pay out an additional $39.99 (PER machine) for a grid device that Sharper Image says should fix the high levels of ozone they produce.

This is an insult to consumers who shelled out hard earned cash for these machines. Could automakers have made car owners pay for the parts after they lost a lawsuit over faulty parts noted to pose a risk to consumers? No, they have to issue a recall or offer to fix the defective part for free. So how has Sharper Image managed to get by with being ousted for making an air purifier that emits dangerous levels of ozone, noted to be harmful to our health, but they do not have to pay for the part needed to make their product safer for their consumers?

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- I had purchased two Ionic Breeze air purifiers about 3 years ago. Last fall both stopped working about the same time. Out of the blue I decided to try to email Sharper Image about replacements. I used this site to look up an email contact at Sharper Image and sent them a message detailing my disappointment in their product lasting only 3 years. Within hours I received a reply and apology as well as an electronic UPS shipping label to send my units back for replacement! Sharper Image has definitely proven to me they care about their customers and stand behind their products.

Poor Service/Non-delivery of order

MERCED, COLORADO -- On 12/9 I placed an order for six items to be used for Christmas. One was delivered on 12/18. From that time on I called on 12/23, 12/30, and 1/5 requesting the balance of my order. Each time a very nice Representative said they would resolve the matter and the items would be received in so many days.

Today, 1/9, I received one more item, however no advice as to status of the other four. Called the company and cancelled the order with another nice person who again apologized. She could find no evidence that the other four were even processed. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Avoid the embarrassment of not being able to deliver promised gifts. I would discourage others from making purchases from this company.

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA -- SHARPER IMAGE has totally ignored my repeated email inquiries as to (i) how to obtain repair of the 2 defective IONIC BREEZE air purifiers I purchased from them, and (ii) what my warranty rights are with respect to these units. To help keep me as a potential future customer, I would like the following: I want (i) information as to how to obtain repair of the defective units, and (ii) a fair determination of what my warranty rights are with respect thereto. At the very least I would like a response from your company regarding this incident. Thank you for your time.

KENNESAW, GEORGIA -- After paying an extra $20.00 for 2 day shipping, I received an email stating my package would arrive on Tuesday (ordered it on Thursday). I phoned customer service, and oh MY!! Rude, and unprofessional. "Read the fine print ma'am..." FedEx doesn't deliver on Saturday??? Since when??? BEWARE of what you are paying for before you order ANYTHING from this company!

CALIFORNIA -- There were previous posts about SI no longer accepting their own gift cards due to bankruptcy. Now they will, but with conditions. You must spend all the money on the gift card in one transaction, and the purchase must be at least twice the value of the card.

CALIFORNIA -- After trying unsuccessfully to charge a new Jawbone I tried to return to the store of purchase and although the Sharper Image catalog states that there is a thirty day warranty they told me that the store only offers 14 days and that I had to "deal" with the manufacturer. I will never ever return to that store. Say what you will about the big box stores but at least they take care of you.

I have purchased two products from Sharper Image in the past two years and both either never worked as intended or stopped functioning within a few weeks. I strongly recommend anyone contemplating a purchase from this company to re-think it. They are selling absolutely shoddy crap at extremely high prices. Beware!
