Beware of State Farm

BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS -- We were 1 block away from the touchdown of a tornado on April 3, 2012. We sustained wind and hail damage to our roof. State Farm only wants to replace the West and North side of the roof and repair and patch the South and East side. They are doing over 1/2 the roof, but refuse to do any more. This roof will not match the existing roof. I don't want a patch job. This will look terrible and I will never have a nice or consistent looking roof again unless I pay for it. I thought replacement value insurance would put us back in the same position before the damage.

They told me they don't have to match the existing roof and basically it just has to be functional. Don't trust State Farm to do the right thing and go over every detail of your policy. I thought we were covered for this type of loss. 12 years and never a claim, first time trying to get them to pay and it is a tough luck. By the way every other home that has a roof replaced in our neighborhood has had the insurance replace the roof.

State Farm roof repair
By -

ARLINGTON, TEXAS -- I had roof damage from a wind storm in late April. The adjuster came out the following week and lifted up the damaged shingles and then called me the next day and said that they would just replace the damaged areas. I thought then that there is no way they will ever match. The roofer that I contacted said the same thing. State Farm then said that the roofer needed to submit an estimate stating that the shingles would never match and they would re-evaluate.

Today I get a call from claims saying to have the patchwork done and if there is a gross mismatch then they would look at it again. I have been a State Farm customer for over 20 years and when I bought my house last year everyone I talked to said not to go with State Farm. I wish I had listened to them.

State Farm Stinks

BLOOMINGTON, IL, ILLINOIS -- State Farm Insurance Company is definitely not your "Good Neighbor". I have never filed an insurance claim in my life. We had a small leak in a bedroom ceiling. I called my State Farm agent to inquire as to the provisions of my home insurance policy. I told the agent that I would not know the extent of the damage until I got up into my attic.

As it turned out, the problem was solved with a $1.65 tube of caulk and a gallon of paint from Wal-Mart. It wasn't until my policy renewed that I found that my rates had gone up substantially and I was now listed on a national insurance data base as having filed a claim! Farmers Insurance would not insure me because of my "bad" claims history. Had to go with Lloyd's. Have had no success in dealing with State Farm corporate office. My advice: disregard their media commercials. They are a BAD neighbor you should avoid.

Felt Like a Thief

On January 8, 2011, I had my prized truck stolen on the return from a hunting trip. On the first day I called the toll free number And was treated very nicely and given another. Number to call for the claims team handling my claim I tried for the next 3 hours without being able to reach the claims team. On my last call I finally reached someone who told me that team was not even working that day. Very frustrating.

On Monday I spoke with a team leader who was very professional and easy to deal with. I then spoke with the claim representative for the homeowner side and what a difference. I felt like I was being accused of stealing my own truck and all the hunting gear inside that went when the truck was stolen.

I was very PO by the time I was done. The auto side has been great and informative during this time and has kept me in the loop. The home owners side has been hard to deal with. Information is hard to get and the email responses have been very rude. After everything is settled I plan ongoing to a different company for my homeowners coverage. I have been with them since 1992 and after this will have no problem moving to a new company.

Another Complaint on Rate Increases
By -

STERLING, COLORADO -- I have been with State Farm for all my insurance needs for over 20 years. I opened this quarters bill and find a 24% increase on the coverage for a rental property I have. After a call to the local representative, he stated that everyone was hit with up to a 24% increase because of all the hail damage claims they have had here in Northeastern Colorado... BS!! I recently submitted a claim for roof damage on a rental I have in the Western Slope of Colorado.

After negotiations, and a large deductible, I was given enough monies to DO THE WORK MYSELF. I have had it with corporations like this arbitrarily increasing premiums because of a claim... What the hell are insurances for? I figure that the 5K they gave me to replace the roof... does not compare to the tens-of-thousands that I have spent with this company insuring homes, rentals, cars, etc. etc. etc... Anyone considering this company as a carrier should investigate them thoroughly before doing so. I which I had!!! This company did not even give me a courtesy call before the increase... which is just as wrong as the increase.

State Farm Dropped Our Homeowners Insurance Without Warning!!!!!
By -

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA -- Well, today we received a letter from our mortgage company stating we had no homeowners insurance since the 21st of April, 2010. I was quite surprise because we have had insurance with State Farm since buying the house. So, we call State Farm and they say we were dropped due to too many claims. We had 2 flood claims (act of god) and a dog bite claim of $450. They said they sent us a notice of cancellation. So, we asked our agent to get us a copy of the letter.

About an hour later, they called and said State Farm didn't have time to notify us of being canceled. So, they had to reinstate our coverage for another year but to expect a letter in the mail next year. So, if anybody out there has "State Farm insurance" be aware that they may drop you. I would start shopping around and comparing prices and drop them before they drop you. It doesn't cost anything to compare prices and you might save a lot. “Like a good neighbor my ass!" My neighbors would do that to us. They left us without homeowners insurance and a lapse of coverage because we didn't even know we got dropped. Good business ethics Snake Farm.

Take Your Money and RUN

CONCORDVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA -- It so nice how your friendly State Farm agent will tell you all of your equipment is covered under your policy if stolen. NOW! When it is stolen State Farm will go to the extreme in making sure that you don't get paid for your claim. They will come up with every excuse + to refuse payout on a claim. Your tractor wasn't inside a building, you have to show someone broke into your building. Because the tractor wasn't inside a building we can not say it was secure from being stolen. This is a 4020 John Deere, you just don't slap it on to a trailer and drive off. This is the second time I have had to spend hours to get a settlement. When my house was broken into they would not cover the break in either.

Dropped After 30 Years

HERKIMER, NEW YORK -- I have been a customer of State Farms for over 30 years I had a claim in 2008 when my roof leaked and caused damage in my home it cost them a little over 2,000.00, but then in 2011 I live by a college and college students damaged my pool which I put in another claim which was over 4,000.00 but the police found the person that destroyed the property and the insurance company was reimbursed. Then with 2 weeks' notice they tell me that they will no longer insure our home.

Why do we have insurance? We have paid for insurance for years from our "good neighbor" not to hear "sorry you're not longer insured". I would pull all my insurance from them the only reason I am staying with them for autos is because I have grandfathered insurance for my vehicle so the only way they can cancel is if we don't pay the payment, otherwise, I would leave them in a heartbeat. I would think twice and ask about their policies regarding cancellation.

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- I had an apt dwelling ins policy and one for my home. I received my refund for my apt. policy, but was also cancelled, by mistake, for my home insurance I paid $2070 in full for the year. Now I have no coverage or refund and am vulnerable and very uncomfortable. I can't get the agency to return my call. She has my money and I have not coverage. This is unacceptable!!! I keep leaving messages and cannot get a return phone call. The answering machine is all I get. If anything happens, I promise I will sue St. Farm!!! I expect a phone call asap to **. Please reply ASAP!!!

Statefarm Cancels Longtime Customers
By -

We have carried State Farm insurance on our home since 1989. On 2-13-11 we received a cancellation notice on our policy because of 3 claims in 10 years. All of which were all related to weather and totally out of our control. Of course this was not taken into consideration! We are very dissatisfied with state farm's decision. It appears that paying your premiums on time and being a long time customer has no effect on their loyalty to us.

We will NEVER recommend State Farm to anyone and will definitely tell everyone about how they treat their long time customers. We feel their commercial should say State Farm is there UNTIL you file a claim. State Farm is really not there when you need them the most!
