Bait and switch - car returned dirty
Posted by Theshadowknows on 05/14/2006
COLMAR, PENNSYLVANIA -- I was drawn to try Aamco because I drive by the store frequently and noticed their sign advertising brake shoes and pads, most cars, $169.95. When the rear brakes went in my car, I stopped in to inquire about possible costs to repair. I gave the person at the counter a good description of the problem and told him that the rear brakes have never been serviced before. He told me that, worst case, about $300.00. I dropped the car off the next day for repair. I received a phone call later in the day informing me of all the work that had to be done. The new estimate was now $700.00. I authorized the work. When the car was finished, they called with a final cost of $850.00. I reluctantly paid the fee and took the car. The work seemed to be done well as all the parts they said were replaced, actually were. I am pleased with the quality of the work, but feel as if I was drawn in by deceptive advertising. I have aluminum wheels which are kept perfectly clean and shiny. I noticed the 2 rear wheels are now soiled with dirt and grime as well as the tires. I washed them and scum was removed from the tires, but not the wheels. I suspect polish will take it off. For the premium price that I paid for this work, my vehicle should have been returned to me in the same condition as it was when left there for repair. This is a sign of a lack of care and respect for the customer. I will not be returning there or referring anyone to their shop.

Aamco Ripoff
Posted by Benfahey83 on 04/29/2013
NEW WINDSOR, NEW YORK -- I went to Aamco with transmission problems and received a $2800 quote for a rebuild. The work was done and the bill came out to be $3500. On top of that my rear bumper was damaged, and the battery was dead. I had to buy a new battery, and received no compensation for my bumper damage other than them telling me it was already there. Like I don't know my own vehicle. 30,000 miles later, my transmission is having issues again.

My suggestion to anyone needing vehicle repair, go to a professional mechanic. NOT AAMCO.

Had a very similar issue as you. Had my transmission rebuilt, cost a crap load of money, had issues with it afterwards, they would do nothing...the kicker? Half way home, I look down at my temperature guage and it was at RED. They drained the coolant and put NONE IN....Almost blew my dang engine. After that I will never ever step foot in an aamco as long as I live.

I am so nervous. I took my Honda Odyssey to Aamco, Poughkeepsie. What started out as a $2800 quote turned into a $4600 job. I haven't picked up the car yet and may just leave it and let them come after me. It sounds like Aamco is a ripoff all over the country

My Rebuilt Transmission For 2003 Windstar
Posted by Jeannine.Harley on 02/11/2013
SYRACUSE, NEW YORK -- In June of 2011 I brought my van in for a rebuilt transmission. They did the job and gave me a years warranty. They offered a longer warranty of 3 years for about 1,000 more. I could not afford it so I declined. Well 16 months later my transmission went. When I revisited the company they said they can do it again for half of what I paid before. They kept saying a transmission could go anytime even in a new car. I refuse to let them touch it again.

They're right, and some vehicles have lousier transmissions than others. Warranties are a gamble. You pay for the extended warranty and something goes wrong the day after it expires. You decline the extended warranty and you don't have a problem for years if ever. For your peace of mind, look into a local repair shop; they may be able to do it cheaper.
Posted by trmn8r on 2013-02-11:
I think they treated you fairly, based on your report. Warranties have limitations, and unfortunately you were past yours. The problem with breakdowns is you never know how long or how many miles there are before they happen.
Posted by Jeff on 2013-02-11:
Interesting, a new transmission in a new car normally lasts at least 100,000 miles, but these "rebuilt" ones cant even get 2 years out of it.....I had a similar problem with an AAMCO about 10 years a go. Never went back to them again ever.
Posted by ok4now on 2013-02-12:
Don't feel bad. Had you purchased the extended warranty they would have found some exclusion and you would not be covered. The 2003 Windstar was known for transmission problems. Google search this for Ford issuing a TSB or a silent recall.

Over Charged for Towing
Posted by Vbdoc1 on 12/27/2012
Indicated they would charge 90 dollars towing to shop and it would be free if work was done there. I checked BBB and they had an F rating, so I had work done elsewhere. They charged me 156 dollars for towing. LIED, LIED, LIED!!!

Most likely it would have been 90.00 if you had the car towed to their shop. But if you didn't, they charged more....
Posted by At Your Service on 2012-12-27:
So did you have the towing to a different shop then what was originally quoted?
Posted by Anonymous on 2012-12-27:
They didn't lie. The tow would of been free if you had had the car towed to, and the work done at AAMCO. You had the car towed elsewhere. Why shouldn't you have to pay? They did not lie. The tow was free under the condition you had them to do the work.

Screwed Up My Transmission N Convertible Converter
Posted by Chahal28 on 10/22/2012
AUBURN, WASHINGTON -- I dropped my car off to rebuild my transmission and they kept it for 4 days. When I drop transmission was the only problem. So, I go after 4 days and I paid my bill and took it home. I notice my car was making weird noises in the transmission. I took it back the next day and they refused to help me and wanted me to come back on Monday. So, I took my car back on Monday and now they are telling me that I need a new convertible converter and will cost about $1000.

Well, when I dropped my car off, it had no problems with the converter. Now, I have to pay because they left it loose or screwed my converter. The transmission doesn't work right, making grinding noise I hardly go up the hill. Anyone please help me, I already paid over $3200 in rebuilt Tran.

Aamco is a ripoff
Posted by Tedncarolina on 01/10/2012
TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA -- Had my vehicle towed to Aamco in Titusville Fl. They wanted 2700.00 to rebuild transmission. Had it done and didn't get 25 miles out of town an hour later(had been on trip when incident occurred and so still had to complete my trip home)when all the same bells and whistles came back that my transmission needed to checked, my ABS wasn't working, etc. Got to Jacksonville and the transmission overheated warning came on so I stopped at the Aamco in Jacksonville. They confirmed the work had to be redone and that it would take a few days. I wasn't prepared to camp out in Jacksonville after being camped out for 15 days in Titusville so I declined and made it home.

I don't have an Aamco dealer in my town, but I was headed to Ft Lauderdale the next week and took it in there. Dealer checked it out and gave me the same report the Jacksonville dealer had given me, but then refused to take it in. My wife and I had rented a car to get around in Ft Lauderdale and so we were prepared to leave it all week. Guy just said he couldn't take it in.

On way back from Ft Lauderdale, now 3 weeks after the initial repair, transmission seals blew again and hot fluid set fire under vehicle. Little town of Hartwell Ga had to send volunteer fire department out on rural SR77 to extinguish blaze. Thanks Aamco.

Chicago AAMCO 6700 S. Western BEWARE price scam
Posted by Chitowntrish on 09/29/2010
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- BUYER BEWARE..STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP!!! WE CURRENTLY HAVE A VEHICLE SITTING THERE IN MAJOR DISPUTE FOR PRICING SCAM ON A TRANSMISSION. WE WERE TOLD BY THE MANAGER OLYMPIA AFTER THEY DID A TOTAL INSPECTION OF TRANSFER CASE AND TRANSMISSION THAT THE PRICE WAS TO BE $1950 AFTER HE FIRST QUOTED APPX. IN THE $1500 RANGE. HIS EXACT WORDS WERE "THE TRANFER CASE WAS INSPECTED AND IS ABSOLUTELY FINE AND ALL THAT WAS NEEDED WAS A TORQUE CONVERTER AND CARRIER". WE KNEW THE $1950 WAS EXTREMELY HIGH AFTER CALLING OTHER TRANS SHOPS WHO WERE QUOTING $1200 TO $1400, BUT WE AGREED TO PAY THE $1950. EVERYTHING UP TO THAT POINT WAS ON GOOD TERMS AND FAITH IN THE MANAGER. AFTER DAYS WENT BY WITH NO CALL FROM THE SHOP THAT IT WAS COMPLETED...I CALLED OLYMPIA THE MGR. TO PICK UP VEHICLE. ALL OF A SUDDEN TO MY COMPLETE SHOCK...NOW HIS WHOLE DIAGNOSIS AND PRICE CHANGED TO BE THOUSANDS HIGHER!!! SUDDENLY NOW HE SAYS THE TRANSFER CASE IS CRACKED (AFTER ALREADY BEING INSPECTED DAYS EARLIER AND TOLD WAS FINE???). AMAZING HUH? HE ADMITTED THERE WAS AN ERROR OR MISTAKE?! BUT REFUSES TO CHARGE US THE ORIGINAL QUOTED PRICE FROM THE COMPLETE INSPECTION. SO PEOPLE... LEARN FROM THIS TESTIMONY PLEASE! DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO AAMCO AND GET RIPPED OFF!

Warranty repair
Posted by Jcole22222 on 03/07/2014
CENTERPOINT, ALABAMA -- My vehicle was towed to AAMCO February 24th, 2014 the transmission had been rebuilt by AAMCO In January 2013. The car stopped pulling, it is still under warranty until March 11 2014. The car sat there for 2 weeks. Finally someone called to say they have lost the keys to the car I would need to deliver them a new set of keys. Thankfully I had a set of spare keys to the car so I dropped them off the next day. One day passed I did not hear anything the next day the same person (Eric) called and advised me the mileage on the paper work for the warranty (that they filled out) had incorrect mileage on it and that I had apparently rolled the miles back on the car. I called corporate to try to locate the owner of the AAMCO. Corporate was quick to respond I will say they provided the Owners information. I spoke with the owner and was advised he would meet with shop manager the following day. At 3:00 the following day the owner called and advised me that I had rolled the miles back on the car, and in fact the transmission in the car is not the transmission they put in the car. he also went on to say he wanted the car off his lot by Monday.

I have never experienced any business that operates in this manner. The transmission is under warranty and the owner is apparently willing to say anything to avoid making this good. I would advise anyone needing transmission work not to use AAMCO EVER........

Just Flat Wrong - Free Diagnostic
Posted by Bballzelmo07 on 12/01/2013
NAMPA, IDAHO -- I took 3 cars in for a check engine light on. We knew what the code was on each. The first one was to be done in 2 hours so we left the truck at 12: 30pm. At the end of the day they wanted to keep it over night they said they wanted to test in the cold weather. We later found out they did not get to it at all. MAF was all it was and needed to be cleaned. They told us it was the intake gasket, sensors and PVC . It was to cost us over 1400.00. The second car we took in we new it was the gas cap. They told us 4 hour later it was the intake gasket once again and would cost us 1300.00. The 3rd car was the same. Intake gasket 1300.00. I will tell you if I had a business that performed this way to customers they would be fired. I see you have many complaints with BBB and others. I will never go back and I will let everyone I know what happened. I will call the radio station and let them know what they are telling their audience to do is wrong. This is like taking a baby for care in a doctors hands and finding out they are not qualified to do so and charge you much more than they did. I have reported this to the BBB, state attorney and the Sec of state. It is sad times when a business tries to rip you off.
