American Express Posted Payment to Wrong Account.

TAMPA, FLORIDA -- I called American Express to make a payment over the phone with my debit ATM card. I gave the customer service representative my account number. The representative asked me to verify some information about me which is fine. I expected that and since I gave him my account number and he verified the identity information I expected the payment to be posted to my account. But somehow this representative was able to post the payment to another account and the account numbers are not even close.

I spoke to supervisor, manager, and they can see the mistake how it was done but they will not correct unless they speak to the account owner where the payment was posted and get their permission to remove the payment that was posted to their account by mistake. This is ridiculous! The American Express representative made the mistake. Not me and not the other account holder. American Express should correct this and suck it up just like Bank Of America does when they make a mistake.

What if the other account owner does not give the OK to remove the money, then what? American Express gets to say "OOOPS" we made a boo boo and I will be out my money plus American Express will get to charge me a late fee for the mistake made by their customer service representative? Just ridiculous specially when customer reps, supervisor, and manager can see the mistake but won't fix it unless the second account owner agrees to have the payment posted in error voluntarily removed.

NEWARK, NEW JERSEY -- Twice in the last 2 weeks you have caused major damage to my daughter and son-in-law trying to buy a new home. First you had wrong info on "alleged late payments on account". After my son-in-law contacted you, you cleared it up after he asked for a Supervisor. Then just 2 days ago, you blocked the Home Mortgage company again from doing a credit refresh to check the same account, to finalize the "close" on the loan. DUE TO THAT THE MORTGAGE % WENT UP FROM 3.4% TO 4.1% while waiting for you to grant access to the mortgage lending company. I will never do business with you and will be telling my friends to shun you as well.

Customer Service - Delta Skymiles SCAM Promotional Experience

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA -- Signed up for an American Express - Delta Skymiles Credit Card tied to a promotion - spend $1K within X period and receive 40K bonus Delta Miles. Called American Express the day I made the purchase to ensure my purchase would qualify (I would have absolutely used another card if it hadn't been in the time frame). I was told by the American Express Customer Service Agent..."Yes you are on the last day... Make the purchase to ensure you get your miles."

I'm now on my 5th call to American Express. A case was opened on February 24th and still nothing. I had the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE agent ever this evening, **. She needed to "find" a 2012 calendar to figure out how many days were in October, November, December & January... Politely tried to tell her the ONLY month that changes the number of days is February. Needless to say this card will be cancelled and I'm posting about the lack of service on any social media outlet possible. Hoping no one else falls for these types of scams.

American Express Punishes Its Customers

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Simple story: 36 year customer with excellent credit. $2 million in charges over the years. Late 3 times for no more than two days in ten years. Recent two day late payment earns me a penalty interest rate of 27.99% (up from 11.99%). Customer service in India says there's nothing that be done to override the "system". I threaten to payoff and close my account. They respond “Sorry to hear that. Is there anything else I can help you with?”

I am canceling my three accounts and will never have anything to with AMEX or their partner companies (such as Costco). They used to have the best customer service in the business and I was proud to be a member -- times have changed and having read other horror stories, they are shedding customers like hair on a golden retriever. Good riddance.

Amex Lowest Price Guarantee, bait and switch

INTERNET, TEXAS -- I recently made a room reservation via Amex Travel on the phone about 3 weeks out from date of check-in. The first thing I mentioned to agent was that I remembered seeing Lowest Price Guarantee on the room/hotel I was interested in. The booking agent said to submit the claim after making the booking and before the cancellation policy applies. This indicates to me there is some time between making the booking and cancellation kicking in. I submitted the claim minutes after making the booking. Amex claims that because the room reservation is not cancellable, they will not honor the lowest price.

Amex should never have offered the Lowest Price Guarantee for this hotel/booking. It is impossible for ANYONE to be able to submit a claim and get a refund on the price difference. Maybe that is the idea? I cannot imagine that a company like Amex with a stellar reputation would stoop to a bait-and-switch tactic. If I am offered a booking with a price protection and informed I should submit a claim before any cancellation penalties kick in, it is understood that there is a window of time between making the booking and when the cancellation penalties kick in, allowing me to submit the claim. It is truly shocking they have stooped to this level.

American Express Credit Card Foreign Fraud
By -

SYDNEY -- A foreign charge in EUR was incorrectly debited to my Australian American Express credit card. When I queried this amount, it was then refunded, again in EUR. However as it is an Australian card, the second amount was much less, in AUD than the original amount charged. When I queried this with Amex they explained to me how foreign currency transactions work, which of course I do understand. What I don't understand is why I am out of pocket for an amount which should never have been charged to my credit card in the first place.

When I went back again to Amex to complain that they need to refund the full amount, I was given a number I could call if I wanted help to cancel my credit card. Take that advice: cancel your Amex and save yourself from their insufferable customer service!

To Cheque or not to Cheque?
By -

Hubby and I are going on vacation to Montego Bay, Jamaica in a few months. We'll be staying at an all-inclusive resort and at present have no intention of leaving the property although we may change our minds and take an excursion or two. I'm planning on bringing some cash, but was wondering if maybe I should put some of it into traveler's cheques. I bought some 4 years ago for our honeymoon (cruise) but don't recall using them (or maybe used one out of 4). We'll have my CC and maybe our debit card (although I'm kind of reluctant to take it), so I'm wondering if it would be better to just take cash. What do you all think?

American Express Anti Small Business
By -

I am a small business owner. I sold some equipment to a company 4 months ago using their American Express Credit card. The equipment is used in the rehabilitation of sewers. We use the equipment to shoot a resin impregnated sock into a existing pipe. This sock will harden and create a new pipe within the old pipe. So, most of the equipment is one time use. This company had a large project to do so they purchased our equipment to do it. We trained the company and helped complete the projects, with no complaints from the customer.

After the company got their money on their contracts they called American express and got a full refund, 4 months later. Now I am out $24,500. I disputed the claim with Amex and sent invoices documentation that the jobs were done the customer was happy etc.. In all I sent almost 30 separate documents.

The machine that is used is made in England and custom made. It is not cheap to import it and cannot be returned. American Express pulled the $24,500 out of my account and refuses to credit it back, stating I did not verify the address on my terminal. I brought up the point that we had the address and obviously shipped it to them. So, I will never and advise every small business owner to never take AMEX again. I was also informed that a customer has 18 months to pull money out of your account for any reason. This may put me out of business. Thanks AMEX for helping a guy steal from me. I feel they are an accessory. Oh ya if you want to verify my story, my case # was **.

Everyone Needs To Get Involved
By -

I have read tons of complaints about this company and I agree with all of them. However useful blogs are, they often have little results with personal satisfaction or resolution. I have made a complaint, which I emailed to the White House, Anderson Cooper 360, and 60 minutes. If they receive enough complaints, then hopefully, they will investigate the matter. This will be more effective in making Amex answer for their bad behavior. I encourage all of you to voice your complaints to the press and White House... This is the only way we will get them to do a story which will expose Amex for what they are... Maybe then, we will see some real change in their behavior...

American Express Will Sucker Punch You
By -

American Express induced us to take a credit card by offering 0% interest for a year. Last week my wife tried to use it and it was declined, even though there was $10,000 of available credit. I called and was told they had reduced our credit limit to only $500 more than we owed. I know someone who owed $7,000 and got a letter demanding it be paid off. We paid our bills in advance and were never late.

Here's what I think: I think it's a con job -- a "Bait and Switch" operation where they sucker people in with a low interest offer and then pull the rug out and hope you go over your reduced limit so they can increase the interest rate to 29%. It caused us a lot of hassle because we had some bills on autopay using that card.

Call your Senator or Congressman and complain. There needs to be legislation to stop this. If a used car salesman did this they would be put in jail. I asked "Why" and was told a "Credit Review". I asked for specifics and they wouldn't give any. We had $150,000 cash in checking accounts and I offered to prove it -- it didn't matter. I suggest being rude to their employees -- maybe they will quit and it will hurt that company. I think they are untrustworthy and sleazy.
