ROUND ROCK, TEXAS -- I'm a Captain in the local fire company and am in charge of maintaining all the equipment at the station. Almost 2 years ago, we bought the 8500se, and some other Apache equipment as a package deal for $5,290 total after they used it in a booth next to us at the county fair. We haven't had any issues with the diesel generator, or a any of the gasoline equipment.
We run Rotella 15w40 synthetic also because the technician at Apache told us to. We use all of these "toys" quite a bit, and have the diesel generator hooked up to a transfer switch that starts it up and cycles it for 30 minutes weekly. With last year's devastating flood, we probably pumped out over 250 basements with the 3 inch pump. The Generator runs our whole station-overhead doors, key fob system, electric heat, computers, and of course lights. We didn't have any use for the air compressor that Apache donated to us so we raffled it off and sold like $2200 worth of tickets in a 6 month raffle. Same with the gasoline generator but we only made like $1400 on that.
The pressure washer blows the one we had out of the water (no pun intended), and gets used regularly. The only thing I would change about the Diesel generator itself would be a lager fuel tank. Although we get about 15 hours out of a full tank, and it runs very efficient - why not make it a 24 hr tank? Then it would only be a once a day task for long outage situations. Other than that I'd recommend this Generator to everyone. Diesel machines are built to last and this machine has always ran like a John Deere every time we've needed it, and for 30 minutes at noon every Saturday. 5 stars
