SPRINGFIELD, NEW JERSEY -- I paid for my membership with my credit card to find out that someone in Bally Total Fitness applied credit from my credit card to someone else's account. I was literally paying for some other person's membership with my credit card without my authorization.
It was very stressful to try to correct this matter with Bally's. Do not leave your credit card or ATM information with Ballys. They will use it without your permission toward someone else's membership.
ROCHESTER, NEW YORK -- They will nickel and dime you to death!. They will attack your credit card with fees you never knew about. You will have to work very very hard to cancel or terminate your membership. All the clubs are dirty and never get cleaned. Hours of operation are minimal. The staff are like bumps on a log. They are helpful when selling you a membership, but it drastically stops when you sign the paper. It doesn't get much worse than Bally Total FitnessAdd reply
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- Five years ago I stopped going to Bally's because they closed it and I changed to 24 Hour Fitness and I recently found out that these thieves from Bally's have being charging my credit card since I left. People always check your bank statement or you would be rob blind. I wish there was a way that I could get my money back. I tried calling them and they told me that it was sold to somebody else. They gave me another number and I waited to long and hung up, but I'll try again later on when I calm down...2 Replies - Latest reply on 06/21/2012Add reply

they REPORT CREDIT COLLECTION if you close MEMBERSHIP.
They let you write membership paper, but actually it's a CONTRACT. They will say you can close your membership by just writing in paper and send it to headquarters. I did that, and there is no confirmation of closing, and in fitness center they said it is closed. But it is not and 4 months later, they put your credit history into collections with 4 months 2 months and report 4 months late payment--this causes 7 years of your credit history will go away and drops points 150. I am screwed..I called them, they made me pay them but not take the report back. So totally it's screwed my Life.
Bally Total Fitness advertises with huge banners in their gym, bring a friend free for the month of August, then you bring a friend and they tell you, it's a $10.00 fee, well there's a big difference between Free and $10.00. Very Very False Advertisement, not good customer service. 2 Replies - Latest reply on 08/29/2011Add reply
My daughter, husband and I joined Bally in March 2011 on a trial basis. We were told that we could 'cancel anytime' and there would be no penalties.

On April 14th, 2011 I cancelled in writing per their requests. I called 6 days later to follow up. I received a notice we had cancelled (they tried to charge my Visa and were denied)
Since that time they have successfully charge my Visa each month on 3 memberships.
I spoke to a Rep (Mike) on 6.6.11 and was assured all 3 memberships were cancelled; they would credit my Visa $64.00. On June 16th they credited me $32.07 (not $64.00) and the very next day took out for all 3 contracts and through July 8th have continued to do so. I tried to go on line today but my membership number is not recognized. We have never received a card nor have we ever used the facility's. I am quite frustrated.
CUTLER BAY, FLORIDA -- Let me explain why this gym is so good.

Great staff - helpful, smart, fun, funny, and friendly - make conversation with them, joke with them, or just pick their brain for workout tips
Sexy People - The women here are HOT! The members are hot, but the staff is even hotter! Don't believe me? Then schedule a Sales appointment with Claudia - she has worked in a gym her whole like and will give you a rundown of everything that you need to know about fitness. She will do all of this while weakening you with her $10 million dollar smile, and INCREDIBLE BODY!
Seriously - Ask for Claudia!
AND GET A PERSONAL TRAINING PACKAGE - YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
Stay away from Bally's fitness these people are sharks, they altered the date on my contract by changing the date, I lost the original and now I'm stuck with payments. No lawyer will take the case.

Please don't make the same mistake I made.
JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY -- Great advertisements and talks prior to enrollment, but completely sucks once you enroll. Remember to read word by word your contract, and after going through the contract for a week, then enroll if you are ok with conditions. Very simple though they say 10 day cancellation notice, it actually requires 2 month prior notice.

1. Lot of hidden costs and clauses
2. Inconvenient cancellation/termination process
3. Not suitable for personal work-out plan unless you hire a personal trainer.
4. There is bosu ball in personal training area but not available to members.
5. Nice resistance ball in personal training area but small and bad ones for members.
6. If you just want to do junk weight lifts and inappropriate cardio, this is the perfect place.
Lengthy cancellation terms
Costs more in long term
This is one of the worst organization in America. What a crap company. I called them up on 2nd Feb to cancel my subscription. My next billing date was 4th of February They said they will cancel my subscription. But I was charged on 4th February I called them again, they said I did not give them enough time to cancel the subscription and they will not be refunding my balance. 2 days are not enough in this electronic age!! And I can't even mention how rude the customer service lady was; this was my first experience with such a customer service in America. I do not speak English so fluently, so I felt she was insulting me by the way she was talking.
I have called up my bank as well to cancel the auto pay option and do not pay them. I cancelled the subscription because I was moving from Seattle to San Diego. Bally's is right around the corner but I prefer to go 3 miles ti another gym and pay a little more and get a little more respect.
7 day Guest pass scam

Most of the staffing is rude, including but not limited to maintenance, management, personal trainers. Most of the staffing is not only caustic,
but they are not helpful. They are professional liars and will tell you
that the air conditioning is off because it is broken and will be working
soon. When in fact, the air conditioning will be off the entire summer so
they can save money. The rest rooms are a battlefield of germs. With toilets not flushing and bathrooms untidy and dirty. The lockers do not
get cleaned either. Cleaning is not in their vocabulary. Forget about
customer service, that is not in their vocabulary either. When you call
corporate you will get someone different every time. You should not have
to call corporate for anything anyway. The Bally center you are a member in should be able to solve any and all problems. DO NOT SIGN UP AT BALLYS.
CALIFORNIA -- I went to Bally's on a quest pass, and before I could step foot on any exercise machine they called a worker up front to take me in an office and get me to become a member. He was going over all the "so called perks" and convinced me into signing what I thought was a month to month deal. I asked him over and over "this isn't a contract right?" and every time I asked he said "NO". Come to find out after $2,300 dollar bill I had signed a 3 year contract unbenoced to me. I tried to cancel the membership and was told the only way to cancel is if you have medical reason why you can't work out and a doctor has to write them a letter. I was so pissed because I was totally lied to. By the way I only worked out twice with the membership. So I advise to not sign anything no matter what they try to tell you. It's a total scam because they know nobody is going to sit and read all the pages and understand exactly what there talking about. I have spoken with several people who Bally Total Fitness has done the same thing to.1 Replies - Latest reply on 01/06/2011Add reply
