Blocked From Using Bill Me Later - Pay Pal Account
Posted by Crystallee4444 on 03/05/2013
NEW YORK -- As a Member of Pay Pal for many, many Years, I opened up a Bill me Later Pay Pal account, just 4 weeks ago. I Bought a few things from Ebay using Bill me later. Had a small Balance of 150.00, decided to make 3 payments earlier then waiting a month when it was due. Now er I have a Balance of only 30.00, which is not due till next month. I made a purchase on Ebay yesterday for 18.00, and was trying to pay for it with Bill me later, and it would not be accepted. Kept saying error in RED. So, I payed for it with my Pay Pal account.

Now I call Bill me later, and discuss this problem, asking them why I am blocked out from my own account, and told them that I just opened up this account which they personally verified and approved since I have been an outstanding Pay Pal Customer forever, and they could not answer me in one sentence. I got the run around, and NO one answered why this happened. I Went from one person to another all Day? Now, Having Excellent Credit my entire life, having Paid my Bill me Later Balance within 3 weeks of opening this account, Having an online Business which I use Pay Pal every day for over a Decade to receive payments, etc. Finally when no one had an answer, I was told that I was chosen as a Random person fraud check? and that the only way to un lock/un block my account was to show proof of who I am for their Fraud whatever? I said did anyone make an attempt to use my account. Their answer NO. I said I only used it 4 times, and you excepted my early payments with no problems?, The said: Correct we Agree. I was then Told to fax: my Drivers License, and a Bill from my Home address to prove who I was, in order to unlock this Bill Me later account. I faxed the 2 items over, called back today to see if they received it. I Was told, well, we don't know if we received it? Then Told when they do receive it, whenever they will look at my fax and get back to me in possibly 3 days. I spoke to Pay Pal, Bill me Later, and a Total of 15 people, and was treated with nasty and disrespectful people, still doubting WHO I was, still after explaining that I was was choosen randomly for their fraud experiment. I personally think they had a Glitch, and screwed up!!!!! I will wait for their email, or call, I will pay my Balance of 30.00 in full, which isn't even due for another 3 weeks, I will close this account, and pursue this legally. How Dare they treat me like a F******* Criminal. I've had outstanding Credit my entire life, and have never been treated with such disrespect. I remained pleasant talking to each person, I even had a Lady from Pay Pal, try to intervene with Bill me Later, and they talked ill about her too!!! Saying she shouldn't get involved, this isn't her business even though we had a case number from Pay Pal, and Bill me later. I answered Multiple choice questions, to 3 people, and I answered them all correctly, I gave the last 4 digits of my SS #, My address, my Everything on file, and still I was being badgered. I have just read all the negatives on Bill me Later, and I can tell you, if this is the way people have been treated, then I believe them all. The last Lady said to me from Bill me Later, Well look at it this way Honey, suppose someone was really trying to get into your account, "Wouldn't you want us to treat them the same Way" WTF?? are they Joking. They just approved me a month ago, and then they pull this BS.

They are being a little disengenuous with you. I suspect they do it to keep from further enraging you but here's what really happened... and it is not limited to just them, it happens everywhere.

What you did was inadvertently fall into a pattern that raised a red flag. All finanical institutions have to follow certain procedures to ensure that their accounts are not being used to launder funds. One of the most prevalent schemes is to purchase items online then pay them off immediately with cash. (albeit electronic) By doing this a perpetrator would have taken funds that could not normally be passed through the banking system, and turned them into funds that can.

They aren't accusing you of anything, but they are required to take extra steps when certain guidelines are met, and this would have been that case.

Personally I would not choose to do business with them, but it would be for different reasons. I don't think their intentioon was to offend you, they were just doing what they have to do under law. And by the way, it's a law that is subject to a lot of interpretation, so they were probably being overly cautious in this case, but not ill-intentioned.

Not Honest At All!!!
Posted by Miss_little_felicia on 05/19/2012
OAK PARK, ILLINOIS -- I had my Bill Me Later account for about 7 months and already I don't like their services. Something told me not to make another purchase with them. When I first opened my account there was an issue with them honoring my 6 months no payment and it clearly states so when you log in to PayPal. So, I brushed it off, then recently I moved into a new apartment last month. So, I need a couch and a rug. I paid them the money I owed them and I decided to use it again. I purchased my couch and rug through Wayfair. I wanted to do it under 6 months no payment & no interest. Which I thought I done because on PayPal it states do you want to put this purchase on 6 months no interest and payment and it applies to a purchase over 250, so I click yes. So this was a easy way for me to purchase furniture because I was short on cash and just moved.

I thought it was ok, but when I went to check my account it said I had a payment due from that purchase. I thought maybe it was a mistake, so I called Bill Me Later for them to resolve the issue. They said ok we will submit it to be reviewed. So then I received an email that said my review has been processed look for changes within 24-48 hours, if any. So then I checked it again still no change. I then called them, gave them my account info and everything...The girl says well we contacted Way-fair and they said you had to make a purchase of 500 dollars( my purchase was 427).

This was unfair because I was under the impression that I was under the promotion for purchases over 250 not 500. Way-fair never said I had to purchase 500 dollars worth in furniture. I'm so angry because I want to pay in 6 months and that was misleading. I will never use them again because they don't know what they are doing. I wouldn't recommend anyone to use them.

Stay FAR Away!

First off, you shouldn't bother with this service since they will do a hard credit inquiry for each purchase. My credit score dropped 17 points after making two purchases totaling $109. Until I signed up with these jerks, my credit score hadn't been under 800 in nearly 20 years. To make it worse, I'm now having to fight them for the $10 discount they offered upon sign up.

This was one terrible mistake to have made and I regret having ever heard of this awful company.

There are quite a few complaints about this company both here and on other consumer sites. Overall, it seems they are very difficult to deal with if you have a problem, to say the least. Thanks for warning other consumers with your review.

I love Bill me later
Posted by Mamami on 01/17/2011
Bill Me Later is a great company that lends you money. I have never found a problem with them and I love the fact that you can order and pay later. It gives you 28 days to order your product and then you have those 28 days to pay:) I have used it for the past 2 years esp. around the holidays when the stores have extra deals.

I guess as long you don't mind paying 19.99% interest on items you buy with it. for me I like to pay cash and never charge anything. but for those who don't mind having balances and monthly payments, its a great service, just like visa, MasterCard, and discover are also good to buy things online. get a rewards visa and you even get points for your online habits.

I heard that Bill Me Later has astronomical interest rates. Here is one article that mentions a case where the rate was over 100%:
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2010/01/bill_me_later_suit.html

Personally I use my credit cards for all purchases, and pay them off every month. Thus, I never pay any interest at all on my purchases. Maybe Bill Me Later is as good a deal.

Bill Me Later is a complete rip-off
Posted by Ticked off in Iraq on 05/15/2009
Bill me Later is a nightmare. I began using them to get my Nutrisystem auto delivery and once I had the account, I used it for a few on-line purchases. The problem came when I decided to pay them off. I sent in the full paymenmt on my bill and the next month got a bill for $3 even though I had not used my account. The next month I got a bill for $21 because they said I owed them $2 finance caharge and my last payment was late, which it was not. So I sent the $21 with a certificed letter telling them to close my account and consider this as payment in full. It has been a year later and I still get bills ranging for $2 to $66 every month even though I have not used my account. They are rip-off artist. DO NOT USE BILL ME LATER!

The $3.00 was most likely the accrued interest charges between the time when you received your payoff amount and time time when it was received. Most credit accounts work this way and it is important to watch for the true final bill when accounts are paid off.

Bill Me Later Doesn't Bill Until It's Too Late
Posted by Rascallyr on 01/29/2009
I used "Bill Me Later" for a particular service, but NEVER received a bill. I did receive a notice via e-mail that not only was my bill past due but I have an additional $30.00 late fee. When I reviewed my account it stated that I decided to go paperless, which I didn't, but the only invoice I received via e-mail was also too late not to have a late charge.

Therefore I never received anything in order to pay in a timely manner and avoid a late charge. I think this is a scam.

I don't think as a general rule Bill Me Later is a bad policy. I've used it with a couple of magazines and had no trouble. You didn't say what service you were using it for but I think that's where the problem lies.

Horrible Company That Rips People Off
Posted by Highfashionlady on 10/02/2008
NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Bill Me Later has got to be the worst credit company I have ever used. I had issues with them before but unfortunately I went back and tried again. I was supposed to get 90 days without payments. They suddenly decided to send me a late notice and add a $39 late fee and upped my interest to 41%. I don't have a card and they never sent me a bill or notice. The only notice I got was a late notice upping my interest and adding a late fee. I have never been ripped off so badly before and I want to warn people.

Is there anything that can be done to stop greedy companies like this from taking advantage of consumers?

I looked on their site and sure enough, no payments for 90 days BUT what you purchased must meet a minimum dollar limit. All the companies seem to have different miniumums, some $150, some $250, some $190 - etc. Which company did you buy from and how much was the item?

41% interest?!? Holy Cow! Who would want a bill me later option at that rate???
Posted by judyblueyes on 2008-12-09:
I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with one of their employees/colleagues trying to get an explanation for why I was charged 44.63% for last month's bill ... she was totally unable to explain the % and why I was charged that ... however, a supervisor will call me back in 2 hours ... (as if) ... and then I'm looking at a 19.99% rate for the remainder of my balance which seems ridiculous when I can get 3.9% for car, 6% for a house, and a rate from Citibank at 9% .... this company is definitely usurious and will be reported by me to the Consumer/Federal Trade people ... would love to know how to fix this but until then I'll hope that somebody comes and shuts these guys down.

Unexplained Late Fees
Posted by Kristina.woods on 07/09/2013
PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA -- I purchased an elliptical trainer with Bill Me Later and have taken more than 6 months of interest free months of payment that are offered. I am absolutely ok with paying interest. My issue is with the payment options with Bill Me Later. My payments are due on the 9th of every month and I have set-up a bill pay with my bank so that the payments are made on the 5th of every month. Last month, I just happened to look at my bill and noticed that for the last 3 months I have been charged a late fee. I called the representative from Bill Me Later to inquire about these late fees and basically the representative gave me a long-winded excuse about my personal bank's policies and how these charges couldn't be avoided. The thing is that the deductions are taken out on the 5th from Bill Me Later, but my statements from Bill Me Later state that deductions take place on the 12th of the month. They are complete and utter liars. Period. I was excited to take advantage of this option because I wanted to purchase an item that I couldn't really afford and the 6 months of interest free payment sounded like a good option.

In the end, I would not use this company in the future. I have wasted a lot of time on the phone with rude, unhelpful representatives.

And the lesson learned is that (1) I shouldn't buy things that I cannot afford and (2) never do business with Bill Me Later again because they do take advantage of people.

I have a bill me later account and I have never heard such as this. I pay my bill every month and just like clock work ,what do you know.... NO late fees. Maybe they just don't like you. Payments may not be processed til later however, they still give you credit for when you make the payment on that date.
Posted by D Mckinzie on 2013-09-23:
You should have told your bank that you were being charged late fees because they were paying late (yes, I know they weren't, but the bank will fight for you if they are being blamed for you getting charged) and you would like to complain. The bank must comply to certain standards and they are not going to sit still while they're being blamed for your payment "not getting there on time." My bank told me that they can't do anything before-hand to help me, but if the time comes that I'm getting cheated in some way while I'm using my bank account, they will fight for me. Always let them know

Bill Me Later Review - Worst Experience Ever
Posted by Suiryu.kpl on 03/10/2013
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- I would not recommend it either, I used their service once and it was the worst experience I've ever encountered. I wanted to dispute an item but because it was unauthentic but since it was out of the time frame (by 2 or 3 days), the dispute got declined. I resubmitted it multiple times only wanting them to contact the seller but all their responses were "I'm sorry there's nothing I can do" even the supervisor said that. Not only that, I got charged $300 in interest after 6 months, thinking that my account was on hold. I wanted to talk to their corporate but there no number, the only thing you can do is write a letter and fax it in. Did that and it got declined, I asked them to explain the reason again the representative said it's pass 6months and "There's nothing I can do from end".

I realized there's not a lot they can do for you. It's been a very frustrating half year with them and not only do I have to pay over 2k for an unauthentic item but an additional $300 interest charge, definitely one of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. You would be better off getting a credit card with 0% APR and they offer better service.

Awesome to Use
Posted by Teresarowell9 on 08/21/2012
I have been using Bill Me Later and I have had no problems, They have not added any unwanted fees to my account or anything, this is a legitimate credit worthy account for you just be sure and read the small print and yes you can pay by credit card but you have to specify electronic billing or by mail billing had a problem with that in the beginning but was corrected promptly upon my inquiry about that, It is not a scam read every contract for credit slowly and thoroughly, I am not a dissatisfied customer of Bill Me Later and I do not take kindly to scams or anyone who tries and scam anyone so believe me when I say they are legit.

Mt only concern with BML would be about avoiding interest - I always pay my credit card in full so I don't have to pay interest.

A quick glance at the BML T&C indicates that BML also has a grace period, and if that is the case it sounds ok to me. But I would never use a credit card or BML and carry a balance. BML's interest rate is 20% - ouch.
Posted by trp2hevn on 2012-08-21:
I used BML when they had a promo for 0% interest plus an acct credit. Paid it off before the promo period expired and not have used it since. No extra charges, and no problems here either.
