My BK Experience
Posted by Vernedathomas1 on 02/23/2013
HONOLULU, HAWAII -- Went through the drive through at the Britannia BK and ordered one Jr. Whopper. Am employee was outside delivering orders made and I had to follow him to the pick up window for my change. The sandwich was cold and had no napkins. Everyone who eats at Burger King know that the burgers are messy so I saw both shocked and disappointed that there wasn't anything in the bag but a lonely temped hamburger. I had to heat it it the microwave when I arrived home which is only 5 minutes from the restaurant. When I went on the website WWW. MYBKEXPERTIENCE. COM I found a lot of links most not related to the survey I was trying to access.

My server's name was Mark and the receipt information is as follows:
0206 13:45#15 FEB.22 '13 REG0003
BURGER KING #02007

Worst BK Restaurant on the Planet: 3040 Ella Blvd. Houston, TX 77018 (Restaurant #571)
Posted by Nick.sarter on 12/17/2012
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- I arrived at the BK restaurant on 3040 Ella Blvd. Houston, TX 77018 (#571) at 6:45 P.M. on Sunday, December 16, 2012. Before ordering I went to the bathroom and was greeted by a toilet filled with defecation, right to the brim. Very nice! A sign indicated that the toilet was broke and to flush by pulling a “yellow cord.” No such cord was present and it was obvious that the toilet had been broken for greater than one day. I immediately retreated and, in a terrible decision I would greatly regret, actually got in line to order.

I placed an order for 4 Whoppers and a French fry, to go, at 6:56 p. m.; hardly a complicated order. Lexis, the Manager, took my order. Much to my chagrin and the other patrons waiting for their orders, she and her staff moved as if they were in molasses, with absolutely no sense of urgency. Numerous other drive through customers received their orders before me and the other walk-in customers, even though the customers inside had placed their orders before the drive through patrons. We stood there fuming as the staff members preparing our burgers would leisurely stroll to the “cold room” and retrieve one solitary piece of cheese and then saunter back, like their customers’ time was absolutely worthless. The customer in front of me said “good luck” when he finally got his burgers and then left, upset. I finally received my order at 7:18 p. m., 22 minutes after placing a simple order. I expressed my displeasure with Lexis over the wait. To her credit, she did apologize indicating she had only one cook.

I took my order home and my family and I ate cold Whoppers and fries -- not one new batch of fries was cooked during the time I was there. I was haunted as I ate by thoughts of a toilet bowl full of turds. What a miserable customer experience! This is not the first instance of atrocious customer service/ cleanliness at this particular BK. Approximately one year ago, while in line, I witnessed one of the African American kids who prepares the burgers and fries rummaging his fingers through the fry bin, sans sanitary gloves! My daughter actually got sick later that night, even though I did not order her any fries. I cannot say if she became ill from that BK meal, but upon reflection after this latest experience, it would not surprise me. After that instance I vowed never to return. Unfortunately, I caved. I admit it; I like the taste of BK burgers. The second Whopper for $0.55 offer Drew me in! Laugh! Never again. Ever! At any BK! Fool me twice, shame on me!

BK has now dropped to the bottom of my fast food burger list. I used to own shares in BK before they were bought out by a Private Equity firm 2-3 years ago. The name of this PE firm eludes me. Some free advice to the managers of your BK investment: Police your BK franchises! If this is a company owned store and not a franchise, you have serious problems! I currently own shares in MCD. There is one right across the street from this BK on Ella Blvd. They are not perfect by a long shot, but the level of service and friendliness from their workers and cleanliness of their operation is 180 degrees opposite from what I experienced at this particular BK. The contrast was startling.

I believe in giving my vendors, restaurants and service providers feedback, both good and bad, both at the point of sale and, if warranted, to their superiors at the corporate level. I encourage others to do the same. Do not tolerate substandard or even mediocre service. Give them feedback and make them accountable! If you accept this level of service, they will think it is acceptable! Don’t fall in this trap. It is part of what is wrong in America today!

I avoid public restrooms when at all possible. At all costs, unless I am in distress. They can go south in a short period of time, though your description does indicate this may have been a "regular" problem.

As for cold food, I am wondering how far you live from that BK. I've tried driving 10 minutes to my home from a FF joint, and the food it cold even when I keep the bag shut.

Like you say, it is tempting to ignore that previous bad experience. Over the years, I have come to listen to the little man inside, and fight the urge. Needless to say, the little man is doing some snickering today
Posted by PissedatBK on 2013-07-06:
I just had the worst experience today at Burger King on Biscayne Blvd in Miami Fl. I walked in and noticed that the line was extremely long but I waited anyway. The door that leads to the restrooms was locked so diners had to ask permission from the guy sweeping the floors to go in. He continued to lock the door each time a customer came out. Once I finally got to the cashier I realized that he didn't speak or understand English to well. I had to repeat myself several times for him to input my order. I checked the receipt and noticed that he gave me incorrect change for my order. I didn't complain at this point even though I had been waiting for 10 minutes just to place my order.

I noticed the line was growing and growing as many of us had placed orders and still had not received food. Several of the patrons in front of me demanded their money back as we had been waiting 30 minutes at the point. I had ordered a Whopper Jr meal And decided to try the new Oreo Shake that they were advertising. Needless to say I finally received my food after 40 minutes and still no shake. So I present my receipt to the bag prep lady and she snatches it and throws it away and yells at the cashier for not making my shake. He goes off to make it and brings me back a vanilla shake with 2 pieces of Oreo on top.

By this time I had lost my appetite and I just threw it all in the trash and walked back to my hotel.

This was by far my worst Burger King experience ever!

Burger king employees are trash!
Posted by Donpoundsjr on 10/11/2012
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA -- We bought food and it was nasty tasting. It taste like it had been in the cooler and then microwaved. How nasty is that when I pay for fresh food. The salad was Horrible as well. Then to top off the very small order placed the employees are rude and disrespectful when I got half wrong order. There is not 1 person there that I have seen that has any kind of respect for the job or customers. ! out of 5 times my order was correct and the food was still very nasty and looking at the employees makes you want to bring your pistol because they look and act all ghetto.

Employees Rights
Posted by on 06/16/2012
NEW CASTLE, INDIANA -- I have been with Burger King for almost six years. After 2 years with the company, you're supposed to get 1-weeks paid vacation. They took that away from us ''regular crew''[kitchen]. But the shift managers and the upper managers, and the ppl. Considered ''management'' get a paid vacation. I think this is unbelievable!...It's not right or fair!
They are saying, us ''crew will get a paid vacation after 10 years of ''curteous'' service..

I wont be there for another 2 yrs!!! Favoritism....Such a load of crap! Ppl. That have been there less time get promoted and get raises.......And I get passed up. What rights do I have if any? I would love to know!

A simple Google search reveals that Indiana is an employment-at-will state and further is not required to provide vacation time. Favoritism and what employees consider unfair promotions and pay increases occur in every company
Posted by trmn8r on 2012-06-16:
Wow, not even one measly week paid vacation after six years of service. That sucks.
Posted by raven2010 on 2012-06-16:
WOW, I checked out BK's website and it shows no paid time off unless you are an assistant manager or higher.

YUCK!

Usually paid vacations are part of the management package. I would suspect the OP is an hourly worker.
Posted by raven2010 on 2012-06-16:
Jon, is that just in fast food? I have managed hourly employees at call centers and law firms since 1988 and they all get paid vacation, usually after a year.

I had no idea fast food , or at least BK, didnt offer paid vaca to hourly employees. YUCK
Posted by jonthethird on 2012-06-17:
Most fast food are franchises and the owner sets policy. Paid vacation is seen as a benefit of the permanent crew, the managers (understand, there are a lot of managers in each store, including shift managers, assistants, etc.)

If you have a copy of the handbook, you might have a case. Good luck.

Melissa, here's the crazy thing. If you worked in China by law BK would have to give you a week paid vacation. Same in other countries as well. Chile 15 days, Costa Rica 2 weeks, Russia 28 days and would you believe it in Iran every employee gets two weeks paid vacation. And they're part of the axis of evil.

You make an excellent point. Don't mind the naysayers. They nay, that's what they do.
Posted by trmn8r on 2012-06-20:
The way I am reading this, it appears it is possible the policy was changed while Melissa was an employee. But I may be wrong.

"We're Listening," my fanny.
Posted by on 07/01/2009
I am incensed at BK's recent sexist and tasteless ad campaigns. I realize that being rude and uncouth is fashionable these days, but I wish BK (and other food vendors) would resist the urge to "sexy-up" food products. It's odd and disturbing. I mean, I'm not sure I want to frequent a restaurant that creates advertisements suggesting a girl is about to commit a sex act on a seven inch sandwich, even if the ad is not shown in the U.S.

On a related note, the fact that you cannot contact Burger King Corporate Headquarters by e-mail should tell the consumer all he needs to know. BK is not interested in the consumer, though its contact page protests that "We're Listening."

Indeed, they are. But only if you have a stamp or a phone or are willing to perform a sex act on food.

Unless you live in Singapore, you will not see this ad in the US, as it is only being used in Singapore, which, by design or coincidence is the only place you can buy that sandwich. It is bad enough when people such as yourself try to censor what we in the good ol' US of A can see, read, or listen to, but when you start thinking you can decide what the entire world has access to, you are going way too far. Now, be quiet and go back to peacefully drawing your swastikas on everything. Besides, I don't think anyone wants to listedn to your fanny. :-D

Boycott Burger King
Posted by Computerhorn on 04/23/2009
I have a real problem with Burger King and this "Spongebob Squarepants" commercial. This commercial has nothing to do with selling food but is promoting "BUTT" fetishes and the viewing of women in a substandard way.

What I find most disturbing about this commercial is that most little kids usually mimic what they see on TV and what adults do.

Clearly this is focused on women’s butts regardless what shape they are and that it's perfectly ok to go "checking" them all out because "butt is butt". I can mentally see little kids dancing to this and acting out what they are actually promoting in this commercial - checking out women’s butts. It has nothing to do with food or anything else associated with it. And, you'll get rewarded with a kid's toy for acting like this. Having sexual attractions for butt is illegal and immoral in most states. It's called sodomy. I don't believe the police should start going around trying to arrest everybody that partakes in this sexual practice, but I also don't believe it should be promoted on national TV either especially tied in with a kid’s meal and toy and a child’s TV program/movie.

I've been told that if I don't like it just simply change the channel. It's pretty hard for me to change the channel when I'm at work and my children are at home watching TV. I can't block a particular channel because I don't like the content of its programming, or tell them that I don't want them watching TV at a particular time of day because something I find offensive is being broadcasted then. My only alternative is to deprive my children of TV totally because this commercial is being aired on several channels and at different times of day. It’s not about ME. It’s about CHILDRED – and, MY CHILDRED particularly.

I do believe the Government has and the FCC has a responsibility to the consumer when it comes to commercials and that they should heavily sensor them for content; both morally and for validity. When any company attempts to do something considered inappropriate or dishonest, I would like to see the FCC come down on that company very heavily. It's damaging to the fabric of our society by their being permitted to pollute it in this way either by immoral portraits or attempts at ripping Americans off.

Needless to say, I will NOT be buying anything "Burger King" or companies/commodities associated with this company. That means "Spongebob Squarepants" products, "Nick", "Nickelodeon", "Nick at Nite", "Nicktoons Network", "Nick Magazine", "Noggin", "Nick Jr.com", "Neopets", "Nickelodeon Family Suites", "Nick Arcade" and "Nickelodeon family Cruise. They are also associated with "VIACOM INTERNATIONAL, INC." So, it's not JUST "Burger King" involved here.

I honestly believe that the TV syndicates like ABC, CBS, NBC, ABCFAM, TBS, USA, SPIKE, SCIFI & TNT hold viable responsibilities here because they are permitting this exceptionally bad commercial on their channels. If all you’re interested in is “THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR”, then I guess it wouldn’t matter much what contents are in anything being aired on your channel. However, if you have ANY sensibilities at all, you’d pull this junk off something YOU own real fast.

When you have adults doing EVERYTHING within their powers to influence children into buying their products as Burger King and Nickelodeon does, and wants to portray themselves as "child friendly", then there should be a GREAT deal of responsibility placed on their actions and image. Without strict scrutiny on their conduct, they start to resemble entities that are more predatorial than anything. Using false pretenses in order to profit from it and dismissing any damages that it may cause as nothing, is wrong.

If you wish to file a complaint over this commercial - or anything else for that matter, please follow the link below. If you wish, simply copy and paste this review into the complaint box.

Thank you!

Why don't you just change the channel? I know it has to be one of the most difficult things to do, but it's really easy. Instead of sitting there and WATCHING the entire commercial and reciting it VERBATIM on this board or other boards, why would you let something eat you alive and make you WANT to make other people miserable? We get it, you don't like the commercial. Change the channel and move along little doggie.

The part where they measure the woman in the slinky red dress's butt should be edited out. Other then that, I love this commercial and have eaten at BK twice in a week to show my support because I am SICK of these people whining about it.

I use the mute button frequently and tend to ignore all the ads that bother me. The BK ads are intended to grab attention. They don't particularly worry if it's a negative or positive response. I don't eat there anyway. Their food gives my stomache a negative response.

I think the OP is on to something. BK gives out cheap, smaller meals to kids. They get hooked. Now addicted, they keep coming back as adults. Clearly we need a Department of Fast Food Addiction and a 'Burger Czar' to curtail what is a cleverly designed ploy to addict our young people to foods peddled by garishly dressed men with big, plastic heads. Voted very helpful.
Posted by jenjenn on 2009-04-24:
Excuse me poster, but clearly you are the one who's lost. I'm pretty sure BK sells burgers, not "butt." If you think that's what they're advertising, then clearly you should get your mind out of the gutter.

Inappropriate & Vulgar

I am absolutely DISGUSTED & APPALLED at this new commercial.

This commercial came on at 6:30pm so they are lying saying they are showing it "after hours"

Who in their right mind approves this grotesque commercial???!!!

I want it pulled off the air ASAP! They also should be fined for inappropriate references.

Sir Mix A Lot should NOT be associated with anything that has to do with kids. He is an Adult entertainer. Always has been.

AWFUL!

The fact this commercial is seeing at least 2 complaints a day here actually just shows us how the public as a whole is reacting to it. I've never seen any other ad receive so much negative feedback here and I think the continuation of it reinforces that it just may have been over the line.
Turn the channel is an easy response that I've probably said myself, but it's not realistic when you think about it. If my family is watching a show, we are suppose to flip the channel and count off thirty seconds because BK stuck a bad taste ad in front of us?
And I've said this before, rosalin has a point, it is (now clearly documented)questionable ad content when promoting a kids meal.

Posted by Principissa on 2009-04-15:
And I agree with you to an extent slim, but honestly, nobody is forcing anyone to watch this crap. It's a commercial with dancing and square butts, maybe I'm just oblivious to what is so wrong with that that I am somehow desensitized to it. If you ask me the Hardees commercial with the woman basically giving oral sex to a burger was 20x worse than seeing women dancing around to a song about butts with a phone book in their pants.

Maybe it's not realistic to change the channel when your watching a show with the family, but why not take the opportunity to explain to the family why this commercial is offensive, why their kids shouldn't portray the actor's in the commercial, and why that behavior is inappropriate.

If your children are well rounded and brought up responsibly this shouldn't even be an issue. My kids see and hear worse in the grocery store, mall, and at school.

Posted by Slimjim on 2009-04-15:
Personally I'm not really bothered by it and I don't worry if my kids see it because they will just blow it off as dancing with a book in their pants. What I do see though, is this ad was created and concepted {sic} with sexual overtones. I was done to get a rise out of people and I do think it was a cheesy move when advertising a kids meal. I can see why others are offended, even though I'm not. I think it was lame and frankly am a bit bored at BK's continual attempts to created ads that cause a stir at the expense of the minority bothered by them. I hope the whole campaign tanks and they try going back to creative advertising appropriate to their product instead of cheap gimmicks.

I'm with you, Princi. The first time my daughter saw this commercial, she started laughing and thought it was funny. Also, she's heard the "I Like Big Butts" song before on the radio so she immediately understood the concept. I suppose I'm a crappy mom for letting her listen to music like that too though, lol.

I don't see the inappropriateness of this commercial and IMO, there are too many people that are looking for ANY reason to scream and holler about anything, whether it's sexually inappropriate material, racism, etc. Knock it off already and as others have said, if you don't like it, turn the dang thing off!
Posted by Principissa on 2009-04-15:
JBC if you're a crappy mom then I am to. I let my kids listen to the Ramones, I let my oldest son play Unreal Tournament with his dad the other day, and I let him watch the Simpson's movie. I just get so tired of the "moral police" telling me what I should think is inappropriate. Let me be the parent. If you don't want your kids to watch it fine, don't, but let me parent my kids the way I see fit.

As I said before, both of my boys have seen and heard worse in the grocery store and at school. But both my kids know that what they see and hear on television is not real. I just wish that the general public would stop being so whiny and self absorbed. There are more important things to worry about now. Will you still have a job tomorrow, will you still have a house. Instead of complaining about television they should complain about the downsizing of public schools because of budget cuts, children having to share textbooks because the schools can't afford a book for every child. Hot lunch programs being canceled because they can't afford to feed the kids. Real world issues need real attention, not stupid television commercials.

Hang on Princi, I'm writing up a review right now about the word "gay" being used on tv before 10pm. My daughter asked me what it meant the other day and now I'm p*ssed that I had to be a mom and explain to her what it meant, in 9 yr old terms.
Posted by Principissa on 2009-04-15:
Tell me about it. How ever did you handle that JBC? I don't think they make books about it? I can't believe that a commercial made you have to be a parent! What a cruel world we live in.

I remember when my son was 6 and a commercial for Valtrex came on, it was quite a conversation to have. I told him it was medicine for people when they are sick. He asked his doctor for it when he got strep. Pretty funny actually, the doctor about fell off his little stool and gave me a sideways glance.

Something else to blame on hip hop.I think the world of hip hop has taken enough blame for stuff they they didn't do or start!! Don't You?

What the heck does this commercial have to do with race? Is it because the the artist of the song himself (Sir Mix A lot) was black? The only person bringing up race here is you.
Posted by DRVROFRED on 2009-04-15:
Sir Mix Alot was the one who agreed to the commercial so what's the race deal? If the singer was white or brown or green for that matter what difference would that have made? Please, that's as ridiculous as the orginal complaint.

I'm with you and posted my own complaint. As a kindergarten teacher I feel sorry for the children of the people who approve of this terrible commercial. There are things that do more harm than good. If Burger King wants to use a sleezy song for thier ads why do they have to connect it to a favorite cartoon charecter? What does one have to do with the other. Kids are exposed to enough garbage and sensible people need to complain. Thanks for speaking out.

Blatant Racism at BK
Posted by Tiredofbadtreatment on 02/14/2009
BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI -- Upon going to my local neighborhood Burger King in Biloxi, Mississippi, I found that I was treated like the scum of the Earth.

The store is majorly run and operated by African Americans and let me just say that they make no bones to let every single white person know that they are not welcome and are hated.

The customer service employees refused to talk to me at all. Even when I said "Hello, how are you?" or "Thank you" I got a blank stare and a refusal by them to talk to me.

Upon giving me my order, the two black women in the window, slammed the window shut without a thank you, or even a look. I barely got my hands around the bag before the person basically threw it at me.

When I called to ask the manager about the customer service problems, she was, of course an African American and would not note or even listen to anything that I had to say. She just kept asking me to describe what I meant by "speak" and "what do you mean closed the window?" just stupid, idiotic round-robin nonsense to let me know that she couldn't care less.

This is not an isolated incident, as this happens at this Burger King every single time I go in. I observe them treating other white people like this as well, but they are so courteous, polite and talkative to any African American in the line.

If you're white, don't go to this Burger King. You'll get poor service, racist snubbing and you will not get the correct order. If you are inclined to call the manager to complain about an incorrect order or being treated like garbage over some irrational hatred of all white people.

To the racist employees at that Burger King: I didn't fill out your application for you! If you don't' want to do your job for EVERYONE that comes into your establishment, then maybe you should get another job.

I have secretly video taped the actions of these racists and am building racial discrimination case against Burger King and its employees.

Contact Burger king and let them know of your dissatisfaction of this particular establishment. No matter your race you should always feel welcome when going to a establishment
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-02-14:
What you describe is extremely poor customer service, which of course is not acceptable. I'm not so sure that it has anything to do with racism. If you truly feel that way, contact the corporate office and suggest they have a "mystery" shopper go in at different times of the day to see what type of corrective action needs to be taken.

I am normally the first to say BS when someone plays the race card on this site, but having spent a lot of time in Mississippi I can say that many white people don't like the black people, many black people don't like the white people, and both don't like the Latino community. It is sad.

As your neighborhood location, do you know of any Anglo neighbors that share your observations? If you are on to something, your hidden video is an interesting angle to prove your point. Something you could even shop news stations with. Why gave up the farm and mentioned it here now though?
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-02-14:
The original text of this post has been drastically changed since the first three comments were posted (maybe four). There was no mention of "hidden video" earlier, which leads me to believe this was an added "fact" that is not true.
Posted by Ben There on 2009-02-14:
This is a two way street. I have seen black people be completely ignored in "white" stores. Will you video that as well?

Instead of spending your energy suing Burger King, focus on improving Mississippi's education system as that would benefit EVERYONE in that state. Being ranked 49 is not something to be proud of.

I think all businesses by law must serve an individual regardless to race, color, creed and on and on. The business isn't required to be polite. What can possibly be accomplished by filing a suit? Will it make the employees nice for a change? Perhaps all those lawsuits in the past have given others the idea to figure what's fair for you is fair for me. Some truth to that but I just go elsewhere when it's obvious to me, and it has been. You don't want my money, I don't give you my business.
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-02-14:
What you describe is not racist; rather typical behavior for fast food employees.

Your 'secret video tape" cannot possibly prove anything other than rushed, possibly rude behavior. Nothing even remotely racist. get over yoursekf.

Ben There, thought California was 49th? Guess we must have moved up to 48th, Wow!
Posted by Principissa on 2009-02-14:
Racist or not you were treated like dirt. Call their corporate offices and inform them of what's going on in this location. In the mean time go elsewhere and stop patronizing a place that clearly does not appreciate your business.
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-02-14:
I do not agree that the behavior is "typical for fast food employees." While customer service in this country is hitting the toilet, the situation the OP describes is extreme and atypical. It's a crap shoot, really. In some BKs, it's great, in others, I'm ignored or grunted at. I haven't seen anything like this, though.
Posted by Tiredofbadtreatment on 2009-02-14:
Listen, I thought this site was for the businesses that were being complained/complimented on.

First, to the john fellow. Please don't blame your lack of ability to focus or observe on me. The "hidden video" has been in my post since I originally posted it.

Second, I haven't given up the farm by stating what I did about the video. I don't want to get anyone fired. Everyone who has a job has it because they need it. I don't want to make anyone's children go hungry because I got their mother or father fired.

All I want is for Burger King to notice that this is happening and put a stop to it.

Am I mad? Absolutely. I am infuriated, that I, as a white man, cannot go get a hamburger without facing down two or three African Americans that would just assume kill me as talk to me.

I didn't do anything to them. My ancestors had nothing to do with Jim Crow, or slavery. I'm full blooded Irish and my family didn't get here until the 1900's.

I'm not trying to bad mouth to get attention or a free food coupon. I just want this to stop and if at all possible, for everyone involved to keep their jobs.
Posted by Tiredofbadtreatment on 2009-02-14:
Oh and Ben there, how about you focus on the topic and don't speak about things that you don't know anything about. Unless you live here, you don't know anything about it here.

No, the hidden camera reference wasn't there when you originally made this post or I would have said something in my first comment. Say what you want. Posted by vaughndoby on 2009-02-18:
I live in south Mississippi, and have seen examples as well as been a victim of, extreme racism. Some of you are arrogant and naive enough that any claim to racial abuse is obviously as racist plot in itself. This is completely untrue. Blacks and whites in the south can and do get along fine, but they do remain socially segregated much of the time. This combined with your occasional bad seed leads to the inevitable victimization of one race or another. I've seen it go both ways. From an intelligent, unbiased and non-racial viewpoint, I can tell you that there is by far more racism towards whites than towards blacks. It is not even close.

I can't testify to the claims of this person and his/her experience in one of Biloxi's Burger King. I can say, however, that it is not as far fetched as some of you are portraying it to be.

I held a service station door open for a gentleman one day, and greeted him as he walked through. He suddenly turned to me, shouting racial slurs, followed me around the store, threatening and cursing me. The woman behind the counter was of the same race of the gentleman and slowly shook her head, mouthing the words "I'm sorry." In good judgement, I ignored the gentleman and went about my business.

Only kindness from the opposite race inspired the harassment that I received that day. It still amazes me.
Posted by DebtorBasher on 2009-02-18:
I have to agree with the poster of this complaint. If the blacks were treated the same, then it would be a customer service issue...but, if they treated the blacks more professionally and was courteous them, but not to the white customer, then yes it can very well be a racial issue. I've been treated the same way at an Arby's...so, I fully understand how the poster felt and I encourage her/him to go forward with any information and proof that they can get. Good luck to you!!!
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-02-19:
So, what you are saying DB is that we as white people (is that a politically correct term) can scream reverse discrimination when we receive bad service, but when a person of color says that they are discriminated against for the same reason then it is just bad customer service? That does not sound fair and it happens on this site all of the time.

Maybe I am taking this post a little more seriously because of our friend that is no longer on this site. But my thing is this white person was not refused service. This white person received their food. Maybe this white person is racist, copped an attitude with the african american workers and thats why he was not "smiled at" or "thanked". I would love to know both sides to the story which we will never get. In my honest opinion he received bad service. Oh, not to mention that he altered the original text of his original compalint when the comments were not going his way to add that he had secretly taped the incident, and then denies it and says the statement was there the whole time. That right there in my opinion makes him a bold faced liar. PERIOD!
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-02-19:
I didn't see the original post, but I regard John to be a pretty reliable commentator here (and probably is overdue to be added to my Trust List). So, I'm inclined to believe the part about the video was added later. That said, I have seen racism to be a two-way street. I speak 'Spanglish' out of necessity for patients. A few years ago, I was behind an elderly Anglo woman at a grocery store. The clerk and bagger were both young Hispanic women. The elderly lady was slowly counting her money and the two young women made vulgar comments about the customer in Spanish. The customer had no idea she was being insulted and smiled at the ladies when she paid. In return, the bagger said (in Spanish) "Now get out you old, white dog." Racism is a very sad fact of life and it permeates all cultures. Therefore, I find this post credible, although it has likely been damaged due to revisions by the OP.
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-02-19:
In the case you mentioned, yes Doc, that IS discrimination and down right cowardly since the employees did not even have the courage to make their remarks in the language the woman could respond to. Credibility is everything and all we have to go by in these posts is what is written. Editing simple typo's or grammatical errors and sentences that make no sense are a-ok in my book and the OP often takes a beating for spelling errors. But, to add material facts (or lies in this OP's case) washed any bit of credibility he may have had straight down into the gutter. If he had videotaped proof of the incident I would have never made the first comment when this complaint was first posted. It wouldnt have been necessary because he would have had the proof to provide to corporate without an investigation.
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-02-19:
I agree (some) John. I find the complaint 'credible' but I cannot vote it 'helpful'. The sad part is, the OP may have added the material to a true story and thereby trying to make it more credible...and ruined it. My lawyer friends tell me that police officers often do this with reports and it's a sure way to lose a conviction. (BTW...welcome to my Trust List!)
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-02-19:
John, it drives me nuts when I comment on a particular review, then later my comment makes no sense, due to the OP or admin making changes to the original.
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-02-19:
I agree with *CJ* it's fairly obvious this poster has some deep seeded issues with African Americans.
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-02-19:
John, great points, as usual.
Posted by DebtorBasher on 2009-02-19:
No John, you misunderstood the Basher...I meant if both black and white were treated that way, it would be a customer service issue...but if one and not the other was treated that way, then it could be a race issue. I can see how you read my comment, sorry if I wasn't clear on it. I guess I should have said, "If the blacks were treated that way TOO"...
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-02-19:
IMO when your race is the majority, your race occupies most political offices, your race owns most the wealth and your race pretty much calls all the shots you really can't scream racism or reverse discrimination based upon race. That just seems silly. What you gotta do if your race is the race in power is to forget about the racial discrimination angle and focus your efforts on finding another victimization grouping that you qualify to join... Me, myself, I'm constantly discriminated against and victimized because of my good looks. Trust me on this one it's not easy being one the beautiful people. Not easy at all and I'm tired of paying that price.

I live in the Jackson area and for the most part I believe that everyone gets along. However there are some "bad apples" that insist on comitting heinous acts. For example: a home was vandalized last month by someone/group that sprayed KKK on the family's home.
(here is a link if interested: http://www.wapt.com/news/20119477/detail.html )
Its sad that this stuff still happens. We have to live together (meaning in same city/town, state, country) and work together.
I know that there have been times where I have gone through a drive-thru and the employee wouldn't reply "you're welcome" when I say "Thank you"...I may grumble about it, but I go on. You can't have everything.
What really disturbs me is the man secretly filming it. I think he has a lawsuit on him for filming the establishment and its employees if they are not aware of it.

Bad Managers
Posted by Burgerking on 11/25/2007
ROMNEY, WEST VIRGINIA -- I have worked at Burger King for 3 years now. Since I turned 16, I have been working for $5.15 And advancing to a whopping $6.55. Through out these last 3 years, I have had to deal with a lot of stress and strain that the managers (who are on a power trip) insist on placing upon the workers. In particular, this manager, from the day I started, has ruined my working environment, home life, and relationships with my co-workers. Recently, I was ill, I was suppose to work that night but had a fever and was sick to my stomach, and pregnant. I called my day manager 5 hours in advance, and informed him I would not be in and to give me the numbers of employees that did not work that night. I called everyone who did not work that night and could not find anyone to replace me. I also called the person who I was covering for and told him I could not cover his shift due to illness. The night manager came in and wrote me up, and thought that she had the power to fire me, which she does not. This manager( who is on the power trip) has ruined a lot of young men and womens careers. She even makes the general manager cry.

I find this absurd that this is allowed to continue.. This bullying. I'm not the only one who sees this employee abuse. You can ask anyone in the Burger King that I work at, and they will tell you. Today, a young woman, who was suppose to become back up manager, was told to clock and out and leave and was sassed by this manager... She was written up for voluntary quitting.. When she was told to leave and she lost her job.. Same manager.. Also today she told everyone that if I was not fired then she would quit. In this case it would be the best if she quit. I got written up for being sick.. So did the girl who was fired today, we both refuse to sign the write ups. The health department insist on not allowing sick employees in a food serving business area.

If anyone can help me with this issue please let me know. Thank you.

So what's going to happen after you have your baby? Got a babysitter?
Posted by Principissa on 2007-11-26:
Report them to the state labor board and find a new job. Nobody should be punished for being legitimately ill. Good luck with your new baby.

BK girl, there is NO women’s careers at Burger King the best I can tell you is fill a complaint with OSHA and then find another job. You can make a lot more in tip money in a real restaurant then you will ever make at a BK. You owe it to yourself and your new baby. If you look you can get help and training for a better job with help in placement.

Good luck to you

I worked in several fast food places in my younger years and I've never worked anywhere that an employee got written up the first time they called out sick, unless it was during the training period. I'd like to know how many other times you've called out prior to this latest incident?

i worked for BK for 5 whole days when I was 15(with a work permit)back then I was making a whopping $3.30 an hour. What a crappy place to work(IMO)I hated putting the grates above the grill in that "acid solution" what a disgusting job.

Good luck to you

My son was treated very badly at the BK in KC and is now out of the fast food industry and in a warehouse job. Getting fired for doing the same as the managers faves is the best thing that happened to him. They still owe him $$ too screwed him out of hours on his last check. Good luck to u

ALOHA, OREGON -- My family and nephew decided to go to BK on 9/5/2005 for dinner. When I arrived the cashier was not too friendly to start of with but I place my order anyways. We went to sit down and after about 4 minutes went back up to pick up our order. I took the tray but we were missing two whoppers so my nephew waited there for the two burgers at which time the cashier said to him " what are you waiting for!". She did not appoligize for the fact that we were short on the order and that she was rude to him, so she gave him the burgers again with no appologies. I asked him what took so long and he said that " the girl was rude to him and after he recieved the burgers, he said thank you and they ignored him". I sat there eating our food and I saw two cocausin women walked in and I watched them go through what I just did except for the missing food part. I noticed that some Hispanics came in next and that the whole burger king staff came out to welcome them and gave them the service that we should have gotten as a paying customer. Usually this event would not even bother me and I would just let it go but I do not discriminate and I expect not to ever get discreminated against in a restaurant or anywhere else. After seeing how they treated the hispanics customer do I realize that the whole staff was hispanics except for the manager. I wanted to speak to him but my wife told me to leave it alone and that we would never go there again and would recommend that no else eat there. The food was the same because it was made by the same francise but I wanted to voice out my frustration about experincing what I believe was dicremination because I was not of the same race as the staff. I would like to get feed back if anyone has experienced the same from this francise. I have tried to contact BK HQ but with no luck.

You were right to leave it alone..they would have kicked your ass in front of your wife and kid!

Your wife was right to just leave it alone. Saying something would have done nothing more than make you more upset. If indeed there was a racial problem then you wouldn't have changed their mind by saying anything. You have the right idea just to not go there anymore and find another place if you want to eat out.

Here is what we do. Make a note of any details you can get, for instance, your servers name, restaurant address, time of day etc and call the corp office. They will be very interested in your story. Also don’t patronize that restaurant again. You can take it one step farther and when you go to someplace that gives you great service, get all that same info and call the corporate office and tell them what a great experience you had. They will promote that kind of service and you may have a reliable place to go when that happens.
Best of luck to you
