Very Poor Flight Itinerary

CAMBRIDGE, TENNESSEE -- I recently received my flight itinerary for the Australia, New Zealand and Fiji extension tour. The flight itinerary getting there is just horrible. It begins in Nashville, TN, then to Chicago, IL, then to Los Angeles, CA, then to Auckland, NZ and finally to Melbourne, Australia! We may be dead by the time we get there!

I called Customer Service at Go Ahead to try & get them to fix this flight itinerary mess & I was told (very politely) that they are contracted only with United Airlines & New Zealand Air & therefore they can do nothing about it. Of course, by now they have over $16,000 of my money and so there is no recourse unless I want to lose a lot of money. Their tour had better be excellent because if it isn't I will NEVER book with them again.

We Had a Good Experience With Go Ahead Tours. Certainly Not What Was Described Here.

My husband and I went to Italy...Venice, Florence and Rome with Go Ahead. For the most part it was a pleasant experience. The only place we had a problem was in Florence where the city center is quite inaccessible and we had to walk quite a distance from our hotel. Of course they try to save money and so we got a good price and our money's worth for sure.

Refuses To Refund Tour Cancelled Due To Covid-19

CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS -- Go Ahead Travel refuses to refund our full tour fees related to COVID-19 cancellation, even though we purchased their "Any Reason" cancellation protection. You would assume the cost of the "Any Reason" cancellation protection would be to cover them for any expenses incurred in case you cancel your tour, but they won't refund 100% of our tour fee citing "expenses incurred". Looks like double-dipping to me. Horrible way to treat repeat customers, use a different tour company.

Poor Communication on Flight Arrangements

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA -- We booked a flight to Europe (family of four) and unfortunately when I received my confirmation, noticed someone at Go Ahead Tours misspelled my middle name, (Scott is pretty simple but they replaced the o with a p and spelled Scptt). This was incorrect per my passport so, my flight had to be rebooked. They assured me it would be seamless and now 24 hours prior to my trip (online check-in) I find I am seated rows away from my spouse... Not happy at all with this experience and will NOT use their service again.

CAMBRIDGE, SOUTH CAROLINA -- I took a ten day tour of Apulia Italy, beginning in Sorrento and it was among the worst tours I have even been on. The accommodations were fine but the tour leader and the support from the home office were terrible. I would never book another tour with them. After writing a detailed report on problems to the company I just got an email saying that they hoped I would travel with them again. No way. Many other companies are available.

CORAL SPRINGS, FLORIDA -- I've been on two prior trips with Go Ahead Tours. Both trips were injectable and informative. As far as the flights are concerned. The option is book your own flight if you choose. I'm booked this year for a tour of France.

Hidden Fees and Lies

MASS -- Worst customer service! They lie and try to get more money from you! They sell you trip insurance for any kind of cancellation! An extra 399 dollars and then they want to take your deposit because you need to cancel!! They can cancel your trip the day after all your money is due!! So basically you lose over 600 dollars all you paid if you wait one day until they decide if they are going to cancel the trip on you and have to return your money!? Horrible, horrible customer service!!!

Beware of Hidden Fees from Go Ahead Tours

WOBURN, MASSACHUSETTS -- Go Ahead Tours is full of hidden fees. Their customer service people are very nice when you are booking the tour, but once they have your money--Look out! My husband and I booked a tour to London/Paris/Rome to celebrate our 25th anniversary. The trip was booked and paid one year in advance of the travel date for a total of $6100.00. One month before we were scheduled to depart, we received a bill from Go Ahead for airline fuel surcharges. This cost us another $400. You can expect to pay extra for just about everything on their tours--for example, to visit the Vatican in Rome, it costs extra. Go Ahead calls these "Excursions".

At the time of booking, they will attempt to sell travel insurance, a regular level plan and a gold level plan. Which we were foolish to purchase. One of our bags was lost by the airlines. Although they say the insurance covers baggage loss, we were told to resolve this issue with the insurance company upon returning to the US. The insurance company told us to first work through the airlines and that the insurance company would subsequently "consider" any claim that was not compensated by the airline. Go Ahead was of no help at all; they simply told us this was a matter for us to handle through the airlines and the insurance company.

Go Ahead schedules very bad flight itineraries. We flew from Houston to Atlanta to London. Due to airline mechanical problems, the Houston flight was delayed and we had to reschedule the connections in Atlanta. This cost us $480. Go Ahead assumes no liability and we paid this money out of our own pockets.

They will tell you that tips are included in your tour price, but don't believe it. You will be expected to tip bus drivers, hotel staff, restaurant staff for group meals (including the meals provided in the tour), auxiliary tour guides, and your Go Ahead tour guide expects a substantial tip at the conclusion of the tour. Read the fine print very well before you book with Go Ahead, and God forbid if you have to cancel--don't expect any refund even if you have paid for the trip cancellation insurance--it's full of loopholes.
