I ordered a DVD from hotmovies.com and a month later they billed me $3.76 for the movie and a $9.95 membership fee. I called to complain and she cancelled my membership. I then had to ask for the refund of my money and she told me I would receive it in one to two months. I never signed a contract or asked to receive a membership. I then asked for her location and she was talking to me from the Phillipines. I'm tired of talking to someone overseas about a problem. This company is a scam that gets people to purchase movies and then locks them into a membership secretly.

I just went to this site, to see what their terms and conditions were. Now I wish I had never googled it. Can't tell where the op actually ordered their movies from, they have so many categories.
Posted by PepperElf on 2009-12-21:
where's the company located?

i'm kinda wondering if it's located outside the US in the first place.
and what title was ordered.
Posted by Skye on 2009-12-21:
Pepper, did you check out the site?? There really isn't anything about anything other then the types of movies offered.

The OP should just go to their local adult store, and not give their credit card number, to these blind sites.
Posted by PepperElf on 2009-12-21:
Yeah I just came back to update my post.

I'd figured they complaining about getting some regular movies (or pirated ones) and got screwed on a membership plan.

but now that i know they were buying porn

It'd be more surprising if the OP HADN'T gotten charged a membership fee.

I really DOUBT they'll refund the OP over it - better off getting the Credit Card # changed

Of course the OP might want to consider buying porn from a walk-in adult store (if the state/county allows them), or sharing videos with buddies

plus with the overseas crap you aren't always guaranteed the porn stars are of legal age or that they're even willing participants
Posted by PepperElf on 2009-12-21:
You know. I think this is the first Porn complaint I've ever seen here.
I guess there's a first for everything...
Posted by redmx3racer on 2009-12-21:
Hotmovies.com is a porn site, I hear it advertised on Howard Stern all the time. But, hotmoviesales.com, which the OP has in the title of the complaint is not porn, it is in fact a movie club.

See, sometimes simple typos do hurt the review process. :)
Posted by Skye on 2009-12-21:
red, google the title the op has, which is hotmoviesales.com and see what comes up.

All porn sites and its not a movie club. No typos here, lol.

Posted by PepperElf on 2009-12-22:
yep i tried red's link
and still got the same porn site as before
bunch o links to porn

Posted by redmx3racer on 2009-12-22:
My mistake haha-hotmoviesaleS is porn, the one I looked at below, hotmoviesale, is not. I'd bet the site below is the one the op had an issue with as it does appear to be a membership site. But who knows at this point!

Posted by PepperElf on 2009-12-22:
well i did specifically ask what movies the OP bought
but no reply so at this point who knows

maybe it was a porn order
or maybe it was a regular movie order

I had the same experience. I bought the movie Swiss Family Robinson for my son for Christmas late Nov/early Dec of 2009. I JUST noticed the charge on our credit card statement (my husband usually does the bills) and called my husband at work to ask him if it was some membership he had, he thought it was something I'd signed up for. So I called the number on the statement and sure enough, they claimed I'd signed up for this membership when I bought the movie. They gave me 3 months back and said I could write to the complaint department to try to get the rest back. So... they gave me this address: Best Brand Values Complaint Dept. P.O. Box 810625, Boca Raton, FL 33481. I've written a letter, will mail it tomorrow and see if I get anywhere. This is a total scam though, I'm usually very careful about where I buy online and reading the fine print and they still managed to dupe me.

Not not use this company
Posted by Justincasey01 on 12/18/2009
BOCA RATON, FLORIDA -- HotMovieSale.com, is a complete scam. First they offer you $5.00 your first order, but in the find print it tells you that you have to join the club, which starts automatically deducting from the credit card/debit card used after 7 days.
Second it appears they never actually sent my DVD. I ordered a DVD and paid extra for Two Day Shipping. 8 days later nothing has been delivered. They claim it is held up in by the USPS, but the USPS doesn't seem to even have the package. When I called to talk to Customer Service about it the "manager" who I waited 30 minutes to speak with told me their was nothing she could do, refused to listen to what I had to say and then hung up on me.
Do not use this company, they are nothing but a scam.

How can I make people aware of this company's underhanded policies? The company is dishonest. The company enrolls you in club without your permisson. You will be charged 9.95 per month until you cancel. Do not order anything from this web site

Yep! Huge rip-off!!!!
Posted by 1SillySally on 01/27/2011
I can't believe I let these people rip me off for about a year before I noticed the measly 9.99 they charged every month for what? It infuriates me that any company can get away with things like this - I hope they go belly-up and that every one who works for them gets ripped-off for everything they've ripped-off from unsuspecting consumers!!!!

I was ripped off by HotMovieSale.com
Posted by Donito on 04/04/2009
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- I was surfing the net looking for a copy of the newest release of "Cool Hand Luke" and I found a new copy for $8.99 plus $2.99 shipping and bought it. Within a week, I received a completely damaged DVD and had to spend over an hour to get the RMA to return it by a CSR who was very accusing, like I'm going to rip him off when all I wanted was another undamaged copy of the same movie. He made sure to tell me that if he did not get the damaged copy that I would be charged twice. OMG, then a week ago, I find this charge for $29.99 for my quarterly "membership" fee. PEOPLE... I did not just fall off the turnip wagon. I AM a smart shopper and do not remember that fee. So I called and was reminded that I agreed to their small print terms of service. The $8.99 was the hook to get me a membership to buy new movies that I can buy at Target, Wal-Mart, or Walgreen's for $14.99 for no less than $16.99 plus shipping. Most were $18.99.

O.K., I have ranted and still am mad. From what I read they are ripping off many people, so my next letter will be going to the Postmaster General and the Federal Trade Commission.

I love Cool Hand Luke too (especially the egg eating scene)!

This company really is kind of cutting their own throat adding a membership fee, as their prices are just so-so. Have you tried half.com?

I guess what we had here was failure to communicate.

I got to watch them film the scene at the beginning when he cut off the parking meter tops for the money! I was still in High School in Stockton, Calif.

But the hard boiled egg scene IS the best!!!!! Now if they are pickled with beets, cloves and onions... I might do a dozen. Just watch out that night as the blur haze hovers o'er the bed. LOL!
Posted by BokiBean on 2009-04-05:
Hahaha donito! I was just looking at a competitive eating site and the record for hard boiled eggs is 65!!!

I make a mean pickled egg, and I love them to death.

Scam, fraud and theft
Posted by Honyano on 06/23/2012
Charged my account for an order I placed, then didn't even have it in stock, and still charged my debit card. they say that they don't charge the card until the movie ( item ) has been shipped. they don't even have the movie in stock. why are they charging my account. for something they don't have and they even say that they won't charge until item ships. if anyone can put these people in jail for theft, then do it.

That website looks rather shady to me. Any website with "Wait, don't go, we've got an extra-special deal for you" pop up ad when you try to leave the website shouldn't be trusted IMHO.
Posted by Anonymous on 2012-06-23:
I have been to websites like that before. And they are total scams and should be avoided at all costs.

The option to not enroll is there on the first screen, before you make your selection.

If you want a great website without any of these pesky enrollment offers, try this site. I use it all the time for hard to find off the beaten path movies and I vouch for them! I always get free shipping and my items arrive very quickly and there are no hidden fee's.

I ordered a movie in December 2010 and evidently accepted free shipping in exchange for the right to bill be $19.95 per month for the next year. I tried to call the company, HOT MOVIE SALE. COM and could not get past the "push 1 for English" section. No matter what I pushed, I could not get past this section to get a human. So, I called my credit card company, AMEX, who said they would dispute the charges. I did this every month for 5 months. After 5 months AMEX sent me a letter stating the company provided a contract saying that I agreed to pay $19.95 per month. so AMEX was going to return $100 to the company and put it on my bill. I called the company HOTMOVIESALE. COM and finally got through. They ABSOLUTELY said I could get none of my money back because I contacted the card company before I contacted them. Well, I had no idea who was billing me...I HAD to cantact the card company first to find out where I was getting billed from. So far I have paid $135 for one movie and it appears HOTMOVIESALE. COM offers no recourse. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!! Who would accept $5 saving on shipping for the right to pay $240 per year. It is obviously a HUGE ripoff! I never received ANY notification from the company that I was being billed.

Upset of not being able to get on the website without a 19.95 dollar membership
Posted by Iderspider on 03/22/2011
I think it is pretty nasty of a company to let you view their website for a certain amount of time then telling you you don't have permission to enter into the website without any explanation. But just to tell you that you don't have the permission to go into the website that is an error.

Beware of this company
Posted by Screwed in Florida on 01/25/2011
Just because you find this company with a Google search that may have a low price, I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM!!!!!!!! First you will discover that they will automatically enlist you in a buyers' club service that costs about $20 a month; of course you get an option to cancel at some later date... but just wait and see how defective their customer service is! I am having to use my credit card company's fraud division to seek justice.... Their site claims they are a Florida based company, but that is apparently just for show. They are based in the Phillipines, so good luck finding anyone to help you - unless you want to fly there to complain.

If you try to cancel an order within 12 hours of placing it, you are SOL; I was told that - even though they had not processed the order, there was no way to cancel it. My next stop is Florida's Attorney General to see if they can be charged with mail fraud or wire fraud.... SAVE YOURSELF - DO NOT WASTE ANY TIME WITH THEM.... I suggest you pay a few dollars more for a DVD and get it from a US company that will be able to provide satisfactory customer service. Caveat Emptor!
