Big Time Scam
Posted by on
Well I will say that they give this big run around on how your order will be shipped as soon as it gets in but you will never get it. I even saw that my account got charged for a site that they decided to sign me up for so I called and complained. I don't think they were to happy with me because I told them that I did not sign up for the site and she tried to say other wise. I said no, you all signed me up for it just to get money. So I canceled the membership and then asked if I would still receive my item and she said yes. I said how do I know because there are so many people who canceled their membership to the site that you sign people up for and then all of a sudden about 3 weeks later they get a cancel order email from your company just because they don't want to be scammed. She pretty much said that they don't scam. Well guess what I was right and they were wrong. Here is my email that I received after 3 weeks when I canceled the membership for the one site:
Dear customer,

Unfortunately, the item(s) that you have ordered is/are currently unavailable and we cannot guarantee that shipment will be made.

Any items remaining in your order will be shipped in the shipping period that you have selected.
If no items remain in your order, then it has been automatically canceled.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Order Number: 513713
Transaction Date: 2/26/2010

Please note that we will not charge you for the following unavailable items:

- There are no items left to be sent. Your order has been canceled.

DON'T WORRY!
You will not lose your welcome discount. Below you can find a discount code
that can be used towards your next order.

So please don't waste your time like I did. I will just go to eBay for now on. At least this way you get your money back if you get scammed.

When you purchased your product off of hotmoviesale.com; did you click the button that said "sign me up" so you could save the $5.00 bucks on your order plus get the free shipping and handling? If you did, that signed you up for their membership.

"†Terms of Offer:
By placing your order today you will begin a 7-day trial of BestBrandValues for only $1, providing access to big discounts and savings on top brand products. After the trial, the membership fee of $9.95 per month will be charged or debited by BestBrandValues to the credit or debit card you provide today and then be automatically charged or debited at the then-current monthly membership fee for each month that you continue your membership. You may cancel at any time by calling 1-866-529-3413 and if you cancel your membership before the end of the trial period, you will not be billed for the monthly membership fee."

There was also an option to not sign up for it "no thanks, take me to the checkout page."

Sparticus on 2010-03-30:
Those buttons are sometimes tricky. I've been on sites where I am about to check out and I realize the button I am about to click is actually going to sign me up for their 50 newsletters. Then I see a little link below the button that says the same type of thing... "No thanks, just process my order".

Very deceptive. If possible I will try to buy from another shop at that point.

seppy1984, thanks for posting this informative review. had not heard of hotmoviesale but now I know never to give them my biz.
PepperElf on 2010-03-30:
personally that's why I only buy movies online from places that have well known reputations

it might not always be the *cheapest* way to go but, it does mean that you'll probably actually get what you pay for without accidentally signing up for something extra

Fraudulent Billing
Posted by on
Sometime in October 2009, I ordered for Michael Jackson and 2live Crews DVD and was told it was out of stock by email( One or more of the items you have ordered are not currently available.
We will do our best to ship the ordered item(s) to you as soon as possible.
You will be notified by email when the item(s) ship.

Item(s) to be sent later:

Item Description: 2 Live Crew-greatest Hits Video (DVD)
Item Number: KCH DLJR5D
Quantity: 1)

Then in December I saw a bill on my Visa debit card so I thought this company has finally found my DVD and will soon ship it to me. I have already received the other copies which I paid for but as I am writing now, I have yet to receive that very DVD and I just saw this charge again on my card and I decided to find out about the company. Here and behold, people are already complaining about this company. I am someone who do not try any membership service either online or by mail, never. I made that decision over 10 years ago and I have never tried any membership service since then. They must have a fraudulent way of signing me up because I simply do not sign up for trial nothing. This is simple fraud.
I just spoke with someone in their customer service department and I was told that the membership has been cancelled and a refund will follow in 5 to 7 business days.

Scam
Posted by on
I ordered a DVD from hotmovies.com and a month later they billed me $3.76 for the movie and a $9.95 membership fee. I called to complain and she cancelled my membership. I then had to ask for the refund of my money and she told me I would receive it in one to two months. I never signed a contract or asked to receive a membership. I then asked for her location and she was talking to me from the Philippines. I'm tired of talking to someone overseas about a problem. This company is a scam that gets people to purchase movies and then locks them into a membership secretly.

I just went to this site, to see what their terms and conditions were. Now I wish I had never googled it. Can't tell where the op actually ordered their movies from, they have so many categories.
PepperElf on 2009-12-21:
where's the company located?

I'm kind of wondering if it's located outside the US in the first place.
and what title was ordered.
Skye on 2009-12-21:
Pepper, did you check out the site?? There really isn't anything about anything other than the types of movies offered.

The OP should just go to their local adult store, and not give their credit card number, to these blind sites.
PepperElf on 2009-12-21:
Yeah I just came back to update my post.

I'd figured they complaining about getting some regular movies (or pirated ones) and got screwed on a membership plan.

but now that I know they were buying porn

It'd be more surprising if the OP HADN'T gotten charged a membership fee.

I really DOUBT they'll refund the OP over it - better off getting the Credit Card # changed

Of course the OP might want to consider buying porn from a walk-in adult store (if the state/county allows them), or sharing videos with buddies

plus with the overseas crap you aren't always guaranteed the porn stars are of legal age or that they're even willing participants
PepperElf on 2009-12-21:
You know. I think this is the first Porn complaint I've ever seen here.
I guess there's a first for everything...
redmx3racer on 2009-12-21:
Hotmovies.com is a porn site, I hear it advertised on Howard Stern all the time. But, hotmoviesales.com, which the OP has in the title of the complaint is not porn, it is in fact a movie club.

See, sometimes simple typos do hurt the review process. :)
Skye on 2009-12-21:
red, google the title the op has, which is hotmoviesales.com and see what comes up.

All porn sites and its not a movie club. No typos here, lol.

http://hotmoviesales.com/
PepperElf on 2009-12-22:
yep I tried red's link
and still got the same porn site as before
bunch o links to porn

redmx3racer on 2009-12-22:
My mistake haha-hotmoviesaleS is porn, the one I looked at below, hotmoviesale, is not. I'd bet the site below is the one the op had an issue with as it does appear to be a membership site. But who knows at this point!

http://www.hotmoviesale.com/
PepperElf on 2009-12-22:
well I did specifically ask what movies the OP bought
but no reply so at this point who knows

maybe it was a porn order
or maybe it was a regular movie order
littleredfifi on 2010-06-01:
I had the same experience. I bought the movie Swiss Family Robinson for my son for Christmas late Nov/early Dec of 2009. I JUST noticed the charge on our credit card statement (my husband usually does the bills) and called my husband at work to ask him if it was some membership he had, he thought it was something I'd signed up for. So I called the number on the statement and sure enough, they claimed I'd signed up for this membership when I bought the movie. They gave me 3 months back and said I could write to the complaint department to try to get the rest back. So... they gave me this address: Best Brand Values Complaint Dept. P.O. Box 810625, Boca Raton, FL 33481. I've written a letter, will mail it tomorrow and see if I get anywhere. This is a total scam though, I'm usually very careful about where I buy online and reading the fine print and they still managed to dupe me.

Not not use this company
Posted by on
BOCA RATON, FLORIDA -- HotMovieSale.com, is a complete scam. First they offer you $5.00 your first order, but in the find print it tells you that you have to join the club, which starts automatically deducting from the credit card/debit card used after 7 days.
Second it appears they never actually sent my DVD. I ordered a DVD and paid extra for Two Day Shipping. 8 days later nothing has been delivered. They claim it is held up in by the USPS, but the USPS doesn't seem to even have the package. When I called to talk to Customer Service about it the "manager" who I waited 30 minutes to speak with told me there was nothing she could do, refused to listen to what I had to say and then hung up on me.
Do not use this company, they are nothing but a scam.

Unseen membership at point of purchase
Posted by on
I too bought a great priced DVD movie and I had thought that if I didn't accept any promotions that was the end of it until I got my card statement to find a 19.95 charge for a membership I did not authorize. I called the support number to BestBrandValues and was directed to a paragraph at the bottom of the confirmation of my order to find the membership was automatically added to the bill if I didn't reply in three days.

I didn't authorize any application for membership, I didn't accept or decline any sales pitch. I need to add the conformation e-mail came from an "BestBrandValues.com" I dint know if they are the same business.

I hope I can save you from this mistake that I made.

Update, as of 7/27/2009 I have lodged a complaint with the local BBB and have activated the dispute system on my credit card and they say that the problem will be investigated.

Final Update, I spoke to a sharp man at my bank / fraud investigator and he knew just what to say to Hotmoviesales.com customer support and my charges were reversed. So call your bank!!
Resolution Update 12/27/2010:
My credit card bank person strong armed the company to reverse the charge.

Hotmoviesale.com is VERY deceptive with this practice and they need to be stopped.

This Company Will Scam Your Credit Card
Posted by on
BOCA RATON, FLORIDA -- I ordered a movie online with this company and was charged 5.52 For the movie. Today I am doing some online banking and find a charge for a membership of 19.95. When I called the company they said they would cancel the membership and gave me a cancellation number. But they would not be able to refund the charge since it had been three days since I ordered the movie.

I told them that I declined anything after the purchase and that I did not authorize the charge and will have my bank reverse it and thus I am warning all of you beware this company's practices.

You may find that since you gave them your account information, your bank may not be willing or able to reverse the charge. You should never give your account information online, it is an invitation to disaster. Always use a credit card, where you will have recourse through the credit card company in case of a dispute.
Anonymous on 2009-07-14:
You did authorize the membership charge. Go back to the web site and read the terms.
BokiBean on 2009-07-14:
They DO have a membership to buy their crappy vids..but what rubbish that is! Who would think you'd be signing up for a membership to buy ordinary videos at soso prices..live and learn.

You can get used videos for like 5 bucks ea at Hollywood and they're current!

I was ripped off by HotMovieSale.com
Posted by on
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- I was surfing the net looking for a copy of the newest release of "Cool Hand Luke" and I found a new copy for $8.99 plus $2.99 shipping and bought it. Within a week, I received a completely damaged DVD and had to spend over an hour to get the RMA to return it by a CSR who was very accusing, like I'm going to rip him off when all I wanted was another undamaged copy of the same movie. He made sure to tell me that if he did not get the damaged copy that I would be charged twice. OMG, then a week ago, I find this charge for $29.99 for my quarterly "membership" fee. PEOPLE... I did not just fall off the turnip wagon. I AM a smart shopper and do not remember that fee. So I called and was reminded that I agreed to their small print terms of service. The $8.99 was the hook to get me a membership to buy new movies that I can buy at Target, Wal-Mart, or Walgreen's for $14.99 for no less than $16.99 plus shipping. Most were $18.99.

O.K., I have ranted and still am mad. From what I read they are ripping off many people, so my next letter will be going to the Postmaster General and the Federal Trade Commission.

But the hard boiled egg scene IS the best!!!!! Now if they are pickled with beets, cloves and onions... I might do a dozen. Just watch out that night as the blur haze hovers o'er the bed. LOL!

Charged my account for an order I placed, then didn't even have it in stock, and still charged my debit card. they say that they don't charge the card until the movie ( item ) has been shipped. they don't even have the movie in stock. why are they charging my account. for something they don't have and they even say that they won't charge until item ships. if anyone can put these people in jail for theft, then do it.

I think it is pretty nasty of a company to let you view their website for a certain amount of time then telling you you don't have permission to enter into the website without any explanation. But just to tell you that you don't have the permission to go into the website that is an error.
