Offered a refund within hours
Posted by on
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- I had purchased two Ionic Breeze air purifiers about 3 years ago. Last fall both stopped working about the same time.

Out of the blue I decided to try to email Sharper Image about replacements. I used this site to look up an email contact at Sharper Image and sent them a message detailing my disappointment in their product lasting only 3 years.

Within hours I received a reply and apologee as well as an electronic UPS shipping label to send my units back for replacement!

Sharper Image has definitely proven to me they care about their customers and stand behind their products.

perhaps they offered a quick refund because they think you read the Consumer Reports article exposing ionic breezes as the worthless pieces of junk they are
Sparticus on 2006-02-25:
Well I'm hoping the "replacements" are a bit more reliable. Unless I am wrong to think that 3 years is a short life-span for such a product? They did work well for their purpose (next to the litter box!)... ;-)

I just inherited one of these gizmos. So far, seems to be keeping the basement a bit fresher. Glad I didn't have to pay for one though.
Ponie on 2006-02-26:
I had been interested in getting one--but the price is too much, IMHO. If the new units run for 3 years, that'll come to what? A hundred dollars a year? It might have been worth your while to buy them, then.
Sparticus on 2006-03-25:
I ended up getting both replaced. We simply took the broken units into our local store and they exchanged them for 2 new units, no questions asked. Well the only question was when we purchased them, since they apparently have the 5 year warranty. I was very happy with the way Sharper Image handled it.

Consumer Reports attacked never really understood how the product work!

Jawbone
Posted by on
CALIFORNIA -- After trying unsuccessfully to charge a new Jawbone I tried to teturn to the store of purchase and although the Sharper Image catalog states that there is a thirty day warranty they told me that the store only offers 14 days and that I had to "deal" with the manufacturer. I will never ever return to that store.

Say what you will about the big box stores but at least they take care of you.

Other than the obvious, what's a Jawbone?
GothicSmurf on 2007-12-17:
I just looked at the Jawbone on the Sharper Image website. All I can say is, people walking around with the bluetooth bugs in their ears all day and night look like total morons!
tnchuck100 on 2007-12-17:
I agree, GothicSmurf. People look ridiculous with those things hanging out of their heads 24/7. I would hate to think I could not progress through life with giving the entire world instantaneous access to me.
GothicSmurf on 2007-12-17:
That and I find them rude. It always makes me feel like the person with that bug attached to their head is flaunting the "I'm waiting for someone more important than you" card. Your phone is ALREADY WIRELESS why in the world do you need a WIRELESS ear piece attached to your head? Use it while driving then take it off. Seriously.
Principissa on 2007-12-17:
I can't even find the ear piece that came with my phone. I don't use the stupid thing. I keep it in the car in case of an emergency.

What I can't stand is being behind the idiot with the ear piece to check out. I don't care about your manicure gone bad, I don't care about how the cashier is giving you an attitude for being on the phone, what I care about is getting my purchases and going home.
GothicSmurf on 2007-12-17:
From the Sharper Image Website:

What is your return policy? (top)

We stand behind every product we sell. If you're not absolutely pleased with your purchase — for any reason — we'll be happy to make an exchange or refund the purchase price (less delivery charges).

We ask that returned products be in like-new condition with original packaging and materials. Select branded electronics have a 14-day return privilege and, if opened, a 10% restocking fee. No returns will be accepted if parts are missing. A receipt must accompany all returns.

Read a story about a guy on a car rental shuttle bus that was sitting there yelling into one of those stupid Blue Tooth ear pieces. The driver stopped the bus and told the guy to shut up, stop bothering the other bus passengers or get off the bus. The basis of the news item was did the shuttle bus driver have the right to do that? The driver was found to be in the right. They never did say if the guy shut up or got off the bus.
Principissa on 2007-12-17:
Good for that driver. Traveling alone is stressful enough. Be a little bit more considerate of others when you're in a confined space. I know it's a lot to ask.
jenjenn on 2007-12-17:
Good story superbowl!
DebtorBasher on 2007-12-18:
If a passenger is disturbing others on the bus, then yes, the bus driver has that right. I was on a bus where someone was listening to their radio with headphones, and the bus driver told him to turn the radio down because everyone on the bus was able to hear his radio through the earphones on his ears. I think we should all get our license to become one of those doctors for the people with hearing trouble...cause that road will be paved in gold in a few years with everything people are plugging into their ears now.

General product quality

I have purchased two products from Sharper Image in the past two years and both either never worked as intended or stopped functioning within a few weeks.

I strongly recommend anyone contemplating a purchase from this company to re-think it.

They are selling absolutely shoddy crap at extremely high prices.

Beware!

Shaper Image's coin bank is crap!
Posted by on

I received a coin bank from Sharper Image today and it didn't work right out of the box.

It's supposed to read each coin and keep your total digitally as you push coins through a slot on top of the unit.

It just flat out doesn't work. It won't read nickels or quarters at ALL and fairly often confuses dimes and nickels.

This product by design is completely flawed.

Do NOT waste your money!

Did you make an attempt to return the item either by mail or by going to one of their stores?
Anonymous on 2006-02-14:
Go to the local department store and buy a five dollar piggy bank. Who keeps count of change going in?
Rebel on 2006-09-12:
I am a former Sharper Image Manager. It is true, that bank always had issues. Simply return the item and ask for a refund. If the store manager refuses, ask for the District Manager's phone number, and the regional manager's phone number. I guarantee results. We were instructed to handle things at the store level.
rhod on 2007-02-20:
rebel is right! well Sharper Image items have a 60-day return policy. you could have returned the item and get your money back. or simply call the customer service department and you could have replaced the item or get a check instead!

Poor Service/Non-delivery of order
Posted by on
MERCED, COLORADO -- On 12/9 I placed an order for six items to be used for Christmas. One was delivered on 12/18. From that time on I called on 12/23, 12/30, and 1/5 requesting the balance of my order. Each time a very nice Representative said they would resolve the matter and the items would be received in so many days. Today, 1/9, I received one more item, however no advice as to status of the other four. Called the company and cancelled the order with another nice person who again apologized. She could find no evidence that the other four were even processed.

This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Avoid the embarrassment of not being able to deliver promised gifts. I would discourage others from making purchases from this company.

Let's see....you placed your order on 12/9....that gives you 11 business days to receive your order....is that enough time?....NO. A GIFT is not "promised"; that would be a DEAL, not a GIFT. A GIFT is given and appreciated, because that's what it is: a gift. Not GOODS that were "promised". But look on the bright side: those Reps were awfully nice :)
bone on 2004-01-10:
I've had similar bad luck with them. They were supposed to re-issue me my gift certificate after they cancelled my order due to lack of stock. Well I had to call on 4 separate occasions, each time listening to them promise to send it to me. Finally after about 6 weeks I got my "money" back! Ridiculous.

ST PETERSBURG, FLORIDA -- We purchased an ionic breeze February we left Fla in may to go back to colo. The ionic breeze was not in use again until October. It ran for about 5 weeks and then it stopped working. I have tried to get a response by email on numerous occasions but to no avail.

At the very least I would like a response from your company regarding this incident. Thank you for your time.

poor service/poor product
Posted by on
BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA -- SHARPER IMAGE has totally ignored my repeated email inquiries as to (i)how to obtain repair of the 2 defective IONIC BREEZE air purifiers I purchased from them, and (ii) what my warranty rights are with respect to these units.

To help keep me as a potential future customer, I would like the following:

I want (i) information as to how to obtain repair of the defective units, and (ii) a fair determination of what my warranty rights are with respect thereto.

At the very least I would like a response from your company regarding this incident. Thank you for your time.

Robbed of $300

I ordered an Ionic Breeze and when I received it the thing didn't work. I immediately called them and returned it. That was over a month ago and I haven't received a dime back! Everyone one I talk to has a different excuse and does nothing. Even though I have kept notes with the names and ext. numbers of everyone I've spoken to no one will talk to anyone else! Corp. HQ phone number is 415-445-6000 and Arnold Shurin is the head of customer service.

I'd get my money back...forget the ionic breeze. A friend of mine did an experiment and while it did only moderately well at cleaning the air, it emitted a lot of ozone. That's bad, by the way.
ChowderHead on 2004-06-11:
Keep on them & keep phoning them back. Otherwise, you will get lost in the mix & forgotten! Get on top of this!

if there is a problem with you item. Sharper Image takes note of those problems that you have even if its already 10 yrs old. so your problems is never forgotten. most of you guys are just too excited that if they advised you to wait for 48hrs, you call back again within 1hr!
