Dean Foods Compliment - Great Dips

Compliment
Review by Wally86 on 2011-11-21
I had a few buddies come over the other day to watch the game. I usually bring out the chips and salsa when they come over. I picked up a bag of ruffles and tortilla chips I wanted to try a different dip this time around.

I made my way over to the dairy aisle to pick up something, and I noticed Deans sold a few varieties of dips, I decided to pick up a french onion dip for the ruffles, and they also had a Guac dip that I picked up for the tortilla chips.

Let me tell you these dips were delicious especially the french onion one they go great with ruffles. And the Guac dip was equally good I'll pick these up again next time I have company over.

Yeah, Dean's french onion is pretty good stuff.

I've tried these dips and the onion and ranch are good. I disagree about their guacamole though. I prefer homemade. I make a mean guacamole dip: avocados, cilantro, onions, little tomato, and some lemon and lime juice. YUM!

I make my own pico de gallo, shorty. Wally is spot on about Dean's dips. What is even better, is hard to find, and is also made by Dean's. I refer to IMO (eye-mo), sour cream substitute. It is a fantastic product, but finding it is a bit spotty, considering the lady answering their corporate phone says they make thousands of packages of it daily. Mix 1 sixteen ounce tub of IMO with an envelope of Mrs. Grass' onion soup mix, for the best French onion dip.

Dry onion soup mix does make great dip when mixed with sour cream. But it's hard to find the onion soup mix now. I've also used it in my stroganoff for extra flavor.

When we find Mrs. Grass soup mixes, we stock up. Neither of us finds Lipton's mix of the quality we look for. Bon Appetit!

Do they have that brand out here in AZ, Star?

Great review Wallster, might give em a shot...

Yes, Shorty, that is where we discovered it. they usually have it at WalMart and Safeway, possibly Albertson's, too.

I'll look for it next time I go grocery shopping.

We pick up I think it's Lowery's French Onion mix and add it in with fresh sour cream. It's not too bad, but Wally's find looks a lot more simple and if its better, that's a bonus.

Hands down, Wally is the current Foodie Guru. At least until Zz wonders back by, then its game on.

Granted, Dean's does make a great onion dip. We juist feel that Mrs. Grass and IMO are an unbeatable combination. We have tried all the brands we could find, but none compare to Mrs. Grass. Shorty, it comes in a box with, IIRC, two envelopes in it.

Thanks, Star

Man I haven't had Mrs. grass since grandma days. The golden egg chicken broth, where you dump the broth gelatin orb into the boiling water.
