BRONX, NEW YORK -- I purchased clothing. The cashier failed to place the 2nd bag of clothing on the counter as she was loading the 2nd bag underneath the counter along with the other bag. I thought she had placed all items in one bag because that is all she gave me when I paid for my items. I left the store.

I later on that evening went to try on my new clothes only to discover that more than half of my items were missing. We called the store and we were told by the same cashier-Elizabeth that she was told by her manager to place the items back on the floor because that was store policy. So the store was going to sell what I already had paid for!!!.

I went back the next day and asked to speak to the manager-Capolli but was told he was in a meeting. I returned the items I did bring home and was given a full refund for my purchase. So my question is why would they place the bought items back on the floor. What kind of store policy is this. As a consumer I cannot trust JCP who will sell again what a customer already has paid for. I will not purchase anything further from JCP. Very disappointed in customer service! and store Policy!

I agree the policy seems a bit strange, especially because the CSR should have realized her error some time after you left.

However, they did give you a full refund, which means they believed your version of the event. I give them credit for that - imagine if they claimed you couldn't get a refund because you didn't have all the items..

I can understand this policy to a certain extent. I worked many years in retail and items are constantly left behind by customers after purchase. Keeping the items for a certain time period is, in my opinion, a good practice. Most retailers do not have this policy in place.

Items that have been purchased and bagged present an opportunity for shrinkage to incur, mostly by employees. It may be loss preventions policy that items left behind are restocked to the sales floor to prevent this issue. The fact that the store refunded your purchase gives the impression this is the policy at this retailer.
