Kentucky Fried Chicken - $1.96 for a Small Mashed Potato?

Review by Wally25 on 2013-03-05
I went to pick up dinner at the local KFC today. Got my usual 3 strips meal. I wanted to get a extra small mashed potato side for my mom she likes the mashed taters there.

The nice lady at the counter rang me up and said that'll be a $1.96. Say what? for a small mashed potato? That if I wanted to I could buy a box of Betty Crocker for a buck and make a whole pot? I told the nice lady that's a bit steep she agreed with me and even said she wouldn't pay that.

I know it's not her fault she doesn't make the prices I just vented about it in a joking manner to her.

Fast food started out as being fast and cheap. The cheap got lost somewhere along the way. It's not just the mashed potatoes either.

You can prob get 4 or 5 scoops of taters out of their small one. Def not worth almost 2 bucks I would expect a large one to cost around that.

Corporate greedy turds I tell ya what

I think you are being generous Wally by stating 4 or 5 scoops. I would think it might be 4 or 5 tiny spoons full. The type of spoons given at KFC for a meal. Many times we order a number of items at one time and although the price seemed high really didn't think about it until we examined the final receipt. Good grief $1.96 for a small container of mashed potatoes. That gives new meaning to *supersize* your order. Probably not much difference in the price of the smallest and larger portion.

I ate at White Castle yesterday (can't believe I admitted that). The burgers were tiny, which I knew going in the door. The price has increased from the $.29 they were when I was a teen.

I actually went back and ordered more food, which is uncommon for me. Those burgers were tasty (the quality was better than the last time I was in a WC).

I like the honesty of the CSR, who agreed she wouldn't pay that price. There are many things I would never pay for at a ff joint. One is soda. Another is sides that are pricey, like these taters. $1 fries I will go for. $1.79 fries? Nope. Same for $1.99 mashed.

Good for you for not paying for that overpriced side!

You can also get a dozen or more chicken strips out of a chicken breast...it's simple, cut the breast in strips, dip in egg (or milk), dip in bread/cracker crumbs and fry. You can add some spices to the mix as well...I always add grated cheese and paprika to mine and some Italian seasoning.
