Grant & Weber Complaint - Grant & Weber are the worst collection agency to deal with! - Collections

Collections - Complaint
Review by chekmom on 2007-10-03
THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA -- Grant & Weber are bottom dwellers. They made me pay a double payment on a doctor bill that they had acquired. My doctor said they never sent the account to collections and they don't know how Grant & Weber got my account. I ended up taking the doctor to small claims court for the double payment and I won the case and got most of my overpayment back. Now, the exact thing is happening again. Once Grant & Weber acquire your social security number they pull everything they can on you and they will give you no information on the actual bill in question when you request it. They just want a payment over the phone and the ding DOES NOT come off your credit report!

I am calling the BBB today! I'd like to start a class action lawsuit to make them accountable.

I thought NCO was the worst? Sounds like Grant & Weber are not anything nice either.

There is a huge market in accounts receivable "paper". Chances are Grant and Weber might be the third or fourth owner of your debt. They paid a nickle or so for each dollar of face value for a whole bunch of delinquent accoounts and they only need about 10% of the people to pay the debts to make a lot of money. That's why your doctor didn't know about Grant and Weber - he may have sent your account to some other company that later resold it.

Thank you Hugh for your input. I had no idea that receivables get accounts in this way. This must be the reason my doctor's office says they never heard of Grant & Weber.

Like Hugh said, it was probably not the first account holder and if your doctor's office is like most of them around here, after a debt is owed for so long or more than 30 days pass without a payment the debt is automatically turned over to the collections department.

She's right. Grant & Weberare trying to collect from me and won't give me any information on the bill, which I never received. I never heard of the creditor, and when I Googled the creditor, there was nothing on them. I don't think they even exist. I'm going to file a complaint with the state attorney general if they don't produce a valid bill immediately. They're ripping off cancer patients, which is the lowest of the low.

UPDATE: I told G&W that the creditor company is not in Google or the phone book and that I called my insurance company, and they had no claim from it, nor had I received a bill. I said I'd go to the attorney general. I spoke with a supervisor, and she said it was an error on their part, that the agent with whom I talked at G&W was new, and that they would send the bill back to the creditor and send me a letter that I don't have to pay G&W. Let's see if I get the letter.

I too got a couple of letters from G&W, along with phone calls. However, when i called my original creditor (Healthcare Partner Medical Group), they said that I had a zero balance on my account. In addition, they told me that the type of service I had received, was supposed to be paid by my insurance, not me. Interesting. I had the original creditor's rep on line and tried to call G&W, but the collection agent was no longer available. Will try again and update the result here.

I've been paying about $100.00 a month to grant and weber since August 2009 for the medical bill I owed at the hostpital Sept 2008 . I had submit the financial aids application but there was no respond from hospital until feb 2010 the hospital finally sent me approval letter that my responsiility would be only about $500.00 instead of $4,000.00 . ..I 've been paying Grant and weber more than $500.00 I am not sure what I should do please advice..

Siamese -- Coordinate with the hospital if they will cooperate, and let G&W know you're willing to go to your state attorney general if they do not give you a refund. Then report them if they don't.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), 15 U.S.C. ยง 1692 et seq., is a United States statute added in 1978 as Title VIII of the Consumer Credit Protection Act. Its purposes are to eliminate abusive practices in the collection of consumer debts, to promote fair debt collection, and to provide consumers with an avenue for disputing and obtaining validation of debt information in order to ensure the information's accuracy.[1] The Act creates guidelines under which debt collectors may conduct business, defines rights of consumers involved with debt collectors, and prescribes penalties and remedies for violations of the Act.

This is FEDERAL legislation that requires agencies collecting debts to provide verification of the debt AND THE IDENTITY OF THE CREDITOR. If they can't, or won't do these things, then they have to stop contacting you. These people are bottom feeders who buy debt for a nickel or so on the dollar, so whatever they get is pure profit. Because they bought this debt 2nd, 3rd or 4th hand, they probably CANNOT supply that information. Find the full write-up here. Educate yourselves and FIGHT BACK: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Debt_Collection_Practices_Act
