24 Year Old A/C - Not Normal Wear and Tear

OKLAHOMA -- I recently got screwed by American Home Shield (AHS), Ken at First Time HVAC in OKC BS at All About Comfort HVAC in OKC. I have had a home warranty contract through AHS and my 24 yr old A/C died and needs replacement. I have invested over $12,000 over the years with AHS and only had minor repairs done and AHS reps have recharged and repaired this same unit without comment about exterior blemishes or the normal wear and tear.

Ken at First Time, came and made no attempt at repair and just reported to AHS that there was damage and it was not normal wear and tear (AHS contract language) and they voided their contract obligations. On appeal, Carlos with All About did not even remove the cover or look in the unit. He wrote that it was damaged and not normal wear and tear on a 24 year old A/C.

I hired a HVAC company and they came, charged the system and the house cooled down. He agreed the unit was in need of replacement in the near future due to NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR of a 24 yr old A/C. I would not count on AHS for anything over $200 in repairs because they apparently instruct their reps like First Time and All About to write opinions in the words of their contracts which voids the customer's rights. I would not let Ken or ** in my home and you should not either. In my opinion, none of these companies are honorable or Christian as advertised, and neither are their technicians. Beware of AHS, First Time and All About Comfort in Oklahoma City.

CT -- They send people over who are unqualified to do the work and then charge you. Took 4 visits to fix small part on washer. Tried to get my heating fixed, and now I'm getting billed for no service rendered and I am forced to use the same contractor or they charge you again, so now I'm going with my own contractor. If I could do it again I would put the money I used to for American Home Shield away and use that for my repairs, you pay for it in constant hassles with them and lies and incompetence from their vendors.

Horrible Service - Without Ac For Almost 3 Weeks

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE -- I have been a faithful customer for almost 10 years; however, this current experience with AHS has been absolutely HORRIBLE!! An AHS contractor came to my home almost 2 weeks ago (in 2 days). AHS did not like what the contractor told them was wrong, so AHS sent a 2nd contractor 3 days later who told them the same thing the 1st contractor said.

In the meantime, we are SUFFERING because our upstairs AC in not working in our home. All of our bedrooms are upstairs! After talking to 6 different representatives, at AHS, and being given the run around, I called corporate office. We still do NOT have AC on the top level of our home and have no idea when the contractor is coming to fix it. As I type this message, it is almost 91 degrees upstairs where my son is sleeping. This is RIDICULOUS and UNACCEPTABLE!!! We will NOT be renewing our contract in June when it expires and we will be sharing our experience with all of our friends and family.

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE -- STAY AWAY!
I have appliance insurance with American Home Shield. On July 31 I paid an additional $106 for a technician to go out to check the dryer because it was leaving orange marks on the tenant's clothes. I was advised that a part was being ordered, however it never arrived. I called on August 21 to find out what was going on (they never contacted me). Apparently the home warranty company declined the purchase of the part. The drum of the dryer is rusting which is causing the orange stains. Due to some small print in my contract, apparently this falls under "cleaning of an appliance" and is not covered under our warranty. I spoke to a supervisor and then a supervisor's supervisor, to no avail. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with them trying to resolve the matter. Then I tried to cancel the insurance because of the lack of service. I have to now pay a $59 cancellation fee too. I am very frustrated and disappointed with American Home Shield.

AHS is a total SCAM!!

STAY AWAY!!! I've had multiple homes previously with AHS and had good experiences, not now!!! Whether pool, electrical, or any other service, AHS constantly looks for ways not to cover, claiming "not caused by normal wear and tear."
Example: I paid for additional coverage for my salt water pool. The heater developed a leak and died. The first technician said it was due to rodent damage. Denied coverage. Since the heater electrical was fine, and the heater is made of copper and aluminum, no way it was rodent damage. Called for a second opinion. Second technician said definitely not rodent repair, it was due to a leak that developed over time due to chemicals in the water. AHS said that is not normal wear and tear and since this was the second opinion, coverage denied and no further discussion.
Seriously? The 2nd tech said that it was normal since the heater was 10 years old.
Called in 3rd tech myself, paid myself for diagnosis -- leak due to normal wear and tear.
AHS will repair -- cost: $3,500!!!
AHS went round and round with explanations, including the heater was not designed for salt water. Great, that is covered according to the contract. But, no, AHS states again, no normal wear and tear.
Similar issue with an electrical problem in the house. Not covered. Got second opinion, and they agreed to address.
Total SCAM... buyer BEWARE!!! If you've used AHS in the past, it's not the same.....

SCOTT, ARKANSAS -- Had a problem with heat and air unit. The vendor charged $1600.00 in non-covered cost and with that even it took a month to fix it. My refrigerator has been out since June 24th, the first contractor came out, made a diagnosis and said he would be back in a week and never came back and never called back. AHS told me last week another contractor would be out Tuesday and they were a no-show. Today is July 22nd and still no answer on when my refrigerator will be fixed. They use substandard contractors and the allow them to screw you on non-covered cost.

MARYLAND -- 1 star is too much for this review. My AC broke on July 3rd... Today is July 23rd. They still did not fix AC. Horrible customer service, I had to pay $3500 for the compressor because they said they don't cover it. What is the purpose of the warranty when you have to pay even more than it cost... And 3 weeks later they still did not come to fix it. They outsource to contractors that you cannot reach, their mailbox is always full and they don't show up for appointments 5 times now, only promising that they will call, but they never do. Stay away from the company.

REYNOLDSBURG, OHIO -- Treated horribly. Hung up on, lied to assigned a F rated contractor that lies, doesn't call, no show, etc. This is a awful home warranty company. I have requested a better rated competent contractor. As the reviews for the American Home Shield picked contractor are so bad it is scary to have them repairing something. I was told no. I have been strung along every day with a different excuse as to why my AC has not been fixed.

Very angry. They have no problem taking the monthly fee from checking account. But they can't respect that after the contractor lied to me, didn't call, didn't show up, then I read all the negative reviews on their website, and Facebook page and the F rating with the BBB. They deny me outside authorization for a real AC repair company to fix the AC. So I am canceling them and will sue if my any damage occurs from this contractor.

Two Repairs Needed. No Issues

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE -- Signed contract and within first year had a heater fail and a refrigerator not cooling. Submitted repair request on-line to AHS. Got a quick response and the name of the company that would be calling Both repairmen were here within two days. No real issues with either. Both had to come back with parts which were gotten in a day or two. Repairs were made for hundreds less than I would have paid without AHS.

I did notice that both contractors were one man shows, not large company names, and not as technologically equipped. But both were knowledgeable, had been with AHS for years, and commented that they (as contractors) had no problems with AHS accepting their diagnosis and paying them.
