Billing 6 Months Ahead
By -

CRAWFORDSVILLE, INDIANA -- I have been a customer of this company for ten years. I was occasionally late with a payment, but otherwise a good customer, and if I was sometimes behind, I was also sometimes ahead with payments. July is my month to balance my account, and I've never owed more than one month's worth. Usually I owe little or nothing in July.

This year in July I get a bill for 950$. My monthly budget payment had been increased to 134$, so we're talking about 7 months worth of gas. I called and was told my usage had increased. I said I must have a leak and they sent someone to check. It turns out that what happened is that they have filled up my tank in April and my tank is 75% full and they want me to pay for it right now. I told them I do not have that much in the bank. Their idea of a solution is to require me to pay 25% each month for the next 4 months and to charge me 7$ month finance fees.

I am shocked that the company has no recourse for people who may have trouble affording this essential utility. I am also shocked that they apparently can and did decide to deliver a full tank in the spring and then bill me for nearly a thousand dollars in July, knowing I am on budget payments because I cannot afford 600$ bills in January and February.

I am not sure how I will afford to pay for their bad judgment, but I am sure that I will somehow end my relationship with them and either find another propane company or convert to electric. I urge everyone else to do the same. Electric may cost more, but it almost never leaks or explodes, and they can't decide to deliver a half a year in advance and make you pay for it.

GRIDLEY, CALIFORNIA -- I was with a different propane company that I had been with for over 15 years and never had an issue until AmeriGas bought them out. OH MY!!! What a shocker can you $4.98 a gallon? Wow, when I called to ask why the customer service representative says "well we provide great customer service?" For $4.98 a gallon I can get great customer service for $2.39 a gallon which is what I did paid off my bill with AmeriGas and got new service with Suburban and they were more than happy to help me out. NO setup fee, no hassle, great service.

SANGER, CALIFORNIA -- Needed AmeriGas to deliver propane as I was out (i.e. no heat) in Dec. AmeriGas knew that I was out of fuel! Made arrangements for delivery on a Tues. Was told driver would call when he was on his way. Finally, after waiting around the house all day for delivery (and didn't think I needed to make other arrangements), I finally called AmeriGas. I was initially told the driver had a personal issued and was unable to make the delivery. A call back a few minutes later I was given a different reason - vehicle trouble this time. (One of those two reasons was a lie.) The end result was my family spent a cold winter night without heat because of AmeriGas.

The Worst Customer Service Ever!

ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA -- I am an on call customer using propane for my cook stove and gas fireplace. I checked my tank level noting 20 PSI, called to make a payment and schedule a delivery. We are having a severe winter, so I was told the deliver would be 7-10 days away. I was also told that I would be called as to when the delivery would be. It has been almost 3 weeks! So, of course, I am now out of propane!!

I called the office, my husband called the office, I called customer service 4 times and no one could tell me when a delivery would be. I Then called 3 other propane companies who all have propane and would install a new tank as soon as tomorrow. Hey guess what AmeriGas, you just lost a customer! I would not recommend AmeriGas to anyone! Their customer service has been a nightmare since I started using them years ago.

Price Gouging

KENNEWICK, WASHINGTON -- Never again will I purchase from AmeriGas. I was charged an extra $100 to fill my home propane tank! Price for gas is currently $2.20 per gallon from Ferrellgas home delivery plus an extra $20 for fees. I was expecting about the same price from AmeriGas but I got charged $3.35 per gallon plus fees! I complained to **, the manager of our local Kennewick AmeriGas, and he advised the extra fee was for infrequent customer charge.

Now I have a 120 gallon tank that I fill up twice a year. They sucker you in by offering a low price first time and then hit you later by price gouging you. Never, ever do business with AmeriGas if you do not want to be scammed. I also told ** that I will no longer be an AmeriGas customer and he seemed fine with that. No customer appreciation at this place. I will also advise all my friends of AmeriGas scammed prices. I was a customer for over 2 years. Buyer beware!

Rotten Customer Service - Terrible Company

WARRENTON, VIRGINIA -- At the beginning of October we saw the AmeriGas truck pull up in front of our house. Since we were moving out the middle of October we asked the gas man not to fill our tank and to stop automatic fill. He said it wouldn't be a problem. The same day we called the AmeriGas office in Warrenton to stop automatic fill. We were again told it was stopped.

On November 8th we received an email from AmeriGas saying they filled our tank and we owe $300.00. We immediately call AmeriGas and we were told there was no record of our previous requests and we were responsible to pay. We asked them to go take the gas back and we were told to there would be a reclamation fee of $130.00. If you want your account closed with AmeriGas request AmeriGas provide you in writing that your account is closed. They will probably refuse as they did with us, just don't leave their office until they provide it, they will. This is not the first problem we had with them, but it will be the last.

Yearly Propane Tank Rental Charge

I bought gas from AmeriGas in July for a sum of $293.00, in January of 2012 in advance. The following month, which was February, I received a bill for tank rental for $71.00 for the year of 2012. I closed the account with AmeriGas on the 18th of April. I told them to come pick up their tank that day, and to give me a refund of the gas that was left in the tank, which was 20% which when calculated would be 50 gals. The price they charged me was 279.9 cents a gal., total price being 146 dollars and 95 cents, refund they owe me.

They came and took the tank the last of April. They sent me another bill for the tank rental for $71.02 and no money for the remainder of gas in the tank. By their rules I only owe them a prorated $24.00 since I only had the tank for not even 4 months, which would leave a remainder of $122.95. They have not sent me the rest of the money they owe me and keep sending me bills for the tank rental. I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me on this matter.

What a Rip Off
By -

We thought we had 50% on Christmas. On Jan 5 2011, we smelled gas and called AmeriGas about a possible propane leak. They came out to find out our gauge was stuck and we had no propane. Won't fill us up. Told us we could get 200 gallons for $662 plus charge us $200 for first leak test and said they had to do it again before they put propane in! That is $862 for only 200 gallons. What a ripoff!!! And to top it all off it is our fault because we should have know to take a hammer out there to beat on the gauge!!

Poor Service and Unreliable
By -

I was looking for a cheaper gas company and Amerigas offered a good price so I took the bait. I paid for the gas a month ahead and still no gas and no tank. The first guy came twice and still no gas and no tank because I live on a hill. The third time a guy came to look at the job and said it was no problem and then he left and came back about a week later. Still no gas and no hot water.

He finally came and here it is about 5 or six months later and I am out of gas. They told me to call when my tank was at 30 percent. I called at that point and they told me they would be here in 7 days, well here it is 10 days and I am at about 1 percent. They told me if my tank ran out there would be an additional charge of around 125 dollars to do a test of some kind. Here I am still waiting to be left in the cold. Amerigas is a bad choice.

Their fuel cost way too much!
By -

HARRISONBURG, VIRGINIA -- I opened my latest bill from Amerigas and looked at the total with shock and horror. They had delivered 68.8 gallons of fuel and charged me $418.41 total on my bill. That means that before the additional fees they were charging me $5.94 a gallon. When I called them they said they could offer me a one time charge of $4.30 a gallon. I paid it but that is the last time they will ever fill my tank! My billing date was 2/15/10 and fill up date was 2/11/10. I did a little checking and national price averages were nowhere near this high.
