Need to File a Major Complaint With This Company
By -

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- Direct Energy had one their servicemen with come out and replaced our old meter. The serviceman had purposely misread the meter due to he did not want to do his job and change the meter out. We were later billed the following month a bill for over 2,000 dollars usage in kilowatts. Keep in mind we live in a small 1500 sq foot home. We are never home during the day and there is no possible way we could use this due to we keep daily logs of our kilowatts usage. We use actual from 45-55 K watts a day at the most during a 30 day billing period.

After 50+ phone calls made with complaints they did send a serviceman out to read the meter. He stated they had made a mistake. Still the following month they tried to bill us an additional 700.00 bill usage to justify their mistake. They are obviousley not even reading our meter and they quoted "we know there is no way you could have used this but we are not going to help solve the problem or fix it. You have to make installment payments."

We have changed to a new provider of course. Our new provider is not in effect until a week from now. Please investigate this. Direct Energy are trying to cheat customers and it is way too obvious. Other neighbors have had the same problems and friends as well. We would like to file a formal complaint in reference to this. Please send the proper means to do so.

Never Had an Issue Resolved

FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- I'll TRY to make this short and sweet. I'm not exaggerating when I say they've never resolved an issue the first time. They never add notes when to my account when they say they're going to do so. Also, they are treating me as if I've never been a customer (they are asking for a copy of my social and I.D.) even though I've been with them 4 years. I'm done with D.E. Every single agent (and again, not exaggerating) has not been able to help me with an issue. I always have to speak w/ a supervisor who may or may not be able to resolve my problem. Never again. Never, ever again will I renew my contract. They're incompetent and frustrating to deal with.

Natural Gas Rates, Ohio

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- Vectren Energy sold their natural gas supplier business to Direct Energy a little over a year ago. I had been getting gas from Vectren Source under standard rate less a penny. At expiration of supply contract, Direct Energy switched me to a variable rate contract. The first couple of months were about 15% above the standard rate. Then in Jul or Aug, rates went to almost double. It appears Direct Energy probably stopped advertising their variable rate, then changed tripled their add-on making the rate double the standard 30-40% above any advertised rate so they could RIPOFF their customers. Needless to say, I will be changing my natural gas supplier and it won't be Direct Energy.

Direct Energy Gave My Account Information to a Stranger

DALLAS, TEXAS -- Direct Energy changed the phone number on my account without my permission or notifying me. They called a complete stranger and gave them my account information for months. The person they were calling even told them several times that the number was incorrect and they neither changed it nor called me to verify. My power was turned off because I didn't make payments that I was completely unaware of. Then they said that if I wanted it turned back on I would have to pay a fee. They didn't take any responsibility at all. Direct Energy is a money hungry corporation that does not care about its customers.

Rip Off
By -

DALLAS, TEXAS -- We own couple of businesses in Dallas and all the bills we received had been showing a past due balance on it even though we have been sending checks. We kept thinking maybe they generated the bill after they got the checks. This keeps happening for over four months.

Finally we contacted them and they kept giving me excuses that it is not showing on the accounts and told me to check with the banks. After about ten minutes of arguing the agent on the phone tells me that she sees the particular amounts and the check numbers but it got misplaced and it has never been applied to the specific accounts. I still have about one year on the contract with the direct energy but after that I am changing to some other company who is more trustworthy.

They Really Don't Care About the Consumer.

I had a light bill from Direct Energy for $200 due on 3/22. I'm a student & not working right now. I paid Direct Energy $180 on Monday 3/22 and kept $20 to get some gas for the week. Well yesterday they turned off my lights for $20!! WOW $20 has caused me to be in the dark. I waited all day yesterday for them to turn the lights on and now it's 48 hours later, & I have been a loyal customer for 5 years! Customer service isn't any help and the manager hung up on me because I'm upset and yelling after she said it can take up to 3 days to turn my lights back on. Of course I'm upset, I DON'T HAVE ANY LIGHTS & it's because I have a past due of $20 freaking dollars.

COMPANIES HAVE NO RESPECT FOR CONSUMERS ONCE THEY GET YOUR BUSINESS. We make them because without our business they won't succeed. We give them so much power they forget about us and remember the payroll check they just received. Hmm, where are the VPs when we, the money bags, need them? Companies say to the world: CHA CHING! JACKPOT.

Never a Customer of Direct Energy and Being Billed for Services
By -

I am not and never have been a customer of Direct Energy. I received a letter from a collection company for 653.00 on behalf of Direct Energy. I made several calls to DE to straighten this out, and a supervisor was never available to help me. A complaint was logged with the resolution department. I have never heard back from them.

In the meantime, I am in collections for a debt that is not mine. My credit has been damaged and DE just doesn't care enough to return my calls. They either have the wrong person or they allowed someone to open an account in my name (identity fraud) either way, I'm in a situation that they will not address. This company is awful. They have moved in my state (PA) and to my fellow Pennsylvanians, stay away from them.

Direct Energy - Liars and Ripoffs
By -

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- Direct Energy made an error on our account and never actually enrolled my husband and I for a move-in order when we recently got in a new house. Our electricity was cut off on Thursday (the owners of the house had moved their services) and we had been assured ours would be turned on that day.

6 days later, after spending 12+ hours on the phone with ignorant, rude, and liar employees, we still had no electricity. I re-enrolled numerous times with them and they claimed that they were submitting emergency orders to Encor, the service that turns on the electricity, and that Encor was the one denying these orders.

I spoke with Encor, and they never once received orders from Direct Energy. They were lying to me repeatedly, stating that they were processing this and that when truthfully, they weren't. The first few employees that I spoke with wouldn't even apologize and take credit for their company's mistake.

I was given the run around for 6 days, with no electricity, and they won't even reimburse me for my spoiled groceries without the original grocery receipt, never mind the fact that I was having to eat out at every meal because I could not even cook. Direct Energy didn't even get my electricity turned on until I got the Public Utilities Commission involved.

They Send Sales Rep. to Your House to Offer Cheaper Rate. It's a Lie. They Get Your Information to Put Light and Gas in Your Name

COLUMBUS, OHIO -- READ the contract they ask you to sign. To cancel service with Direct Energy is a NIGHT MARE. They want you to cancel in writing in three business day. The address that they give is incorrect. Do not give information to anyone that comes knocking on your door. Call your company first. The people they have to call is not from Direct Energy. It's a Data Company.

Waited 20 Minutes for Rep, Was Rude and Non-Compliant

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- When signed for service was promised 50.00 reward. Never received. When I called took 20 minutes for them to answer. Said he would send out in 6-8 weeks. Told him about long wait. He replied "You are not the only customer." Was cold and condescending. Will probably not stay with this supplier.
