MANQUIN, VIRGINIA -- My husband had a MedicAlert before and it was pretty good. But he was hard of hearing so if he was in the bed and had a problem and pressed the button, he wouldn't be able to hear the speaker on the thing, which is in the kitchen. I could but he couldn't. So once he passed, I said I'm not going to get that for me because I'm not here a lot anyway.

I have the Lively Mobile and it's good for traveling. If I'm on the train to go to my grandchildren in Alabama and I'm having an emergency, I can just press it. Also, I live in a rural area. If I go down a country road, my cellphone doesn't have a signal because of the trees on both sides of the road but I've got a signal on my alert button.

I wear it on my waistband and it's not uncomfortable at all. Every once in a while, if I wear something kind of thin on the top, somebody will see it flashing and ask about it. I tell them it's my alert button and I show it to them. I also told them the flashing means it has a signal. So far, I haven't been anywhere where I haven't had a signal, so that is wonderful.

I lost the device one time in a store. I called them and they said they'd scan the GPS and see where it is. I forgot about the GPS because I was tired that night. When they told me where it was, I said that it was my home address and I was sitting at home. I went to look for it and it was face down. Normally, if I can't find it, I go look because I see it flashing, but it was turned over and I did not see it flashing.

Also, when I talk to somebody at Lively, it's always a person. The button got pushed one time accidentally and they came right on and I told them I was fine. I also dropped it not long ago and it went off calling Lively because it detected falling. I really like the feature that if I know it's pushed accidentally, if I'm right at it and it goes off calling Lively, I just cancel the call real quick. I'm very satisfied with it and I've recommended it to three different people.

READING, PENNSYLVANIA -- I live by myself and since I got my Lively Mobile, I know that when I go for a walk, I don't have to worry if I fall and can't get up. One time, I was dehydrated and couldn't feel my legs. I called them and an ambulance showed up. I also used it for a friend one time. I walked over to check on him and he was lying on the floor. I called and told them where I was at, which was right across the street from me. The ambulance showed up because I told them where I was. The numbers are all messed up where I live because I didn't want the GPS thing to show them that I was at my home across the street.

I also test the device every once in a while and if I push the device it makes a noise and rings one or two times and then somebody will ask if I need help. But I had one problem with it going off. They called me at home but I didn't hear any noise or ring and nobody talked to me. They called my family and said there was something wrong. My nephew called me and I answered the phone for him. He asked me if I pushed the button and I said, "Not that I know of."

Everybody should have a Lively Mobile. I recommended it to a maintenance man. His mother's going on 90 and not giving up her home. I took it out of my shirt and showed him what it was. He asked what it does and I actually pushed it then just told them I was testing it. I said, “Now you see how quick they respond? No matter where she's at, it'll let them know.” He ended up getting it. Then he showed up and asked me why it wasn't working. But his mother forgot to put it on charge.

RICHFIELD, NORTH CAROLINA -- When I fell and broke my hip, I lay on the floor for almost three days before somebody came. When I went to the nursing home to stay for therapy, a friend of mine ordered a Greatcall for her mother. I then also got one from Lively. I have to pay $23 a month, which is billed to the Credit Union where I do my banking and mine is good for anytime and anywhere, I don't have to be at home for it to work.

My granddaughter had been living with me and was supposed to come home about lunchtime that day when I fell. She was going to Catawba at that time, and the schedule got changed, she didn't have to go to class so she didn't come by here that day. I thought I could pull myself up by holding on the dining room table, but I couldn't. I lay there from twelve o'clock on one day, overnight and the next day till about one o'clock. I was trying to scoot around on the floor to get to the telephone in the hall, but I hadn't gotten around to it when my granddaughter came home. If I had had my device on at that time, I would have no trouble.

I wear my device all the time, except for the five to six hours that I'm charging it. The directions on it say to take it off at night to charge it, which I think is dumb. I live alone, and at night is when I want it. I'm in a wheelchair and if somebody would break in, if I was charging it, I'd have to try to get in the kitchen to get it. I charge mine every evening when I'm making supper. I don't go to bed until about 11:30, so then, I get it and put it on before I go to bed. I have no trouble with it. I would recommend it anytime.

ROBINSON, ILLINOIS -- A friend of mine fell out in her garage at eleven o'clock one morning and broke her hip. Her daughter didn't get there until 5:30 that evening and she lay out there all that time. That scared me. I have two daughters that live right here in this town. They could be here and visit then leave and in five minutes, I could fall and break a leg and they wouldn't know it until the next day or so and I thought that everybody should have an emergency alert button of some sort. Everybody living alone needs something to get people to know that you're hurt.

I had a medical alert device before and I like it, it was very good. I like their button a lot better. It wasn't as big as this Lively Mobile. If I have it around in my neck and I do the right thing, this will come back and hit me in the head. But now, I have found the other one. My other one was very small and I could tuck it in my bra. I found out that if I put this Lively in sideways and push it down there far enough, it's okay. So, I got it with me at all time, because I wear the other one all the time. I put a little nail in the garage by my car door where I get in and out as it was only good on my property. I would hang it on that nail when I get in the car and I put it back on when I got out.

At first, the Lively Mobile was so much different from my other one. Then, it took me a while to adjust to it. I take it just about everywhere I go. But I do not take it to the movies because I live in a small town and if something would happen to me at the movies, there is going to be somebody there that knows me that will call for help. I've never tested this one and I have no idea what they'd say when I press the button. I have thought from time to time to press it just to see what would happen.

CASPER, WYOMING -- I have the call button with Lively Mobile. But I really got it a little bit too late. I needed it right before that and I didn't have one. I was in one of those casualties where I couldn't get help when I needed it. Thank God it wasn't that bad and my husband found me shortly after I fell. It made me wake up and say I've got to have something to be able to get help when I need it. I have also told a lot of people that I felt they should get one and I didn't tell them what brand. But I have looked into several different types of alarm systems and this is probably one of the better ones.

I'm pretty satisfied with it and the thing I like about it is that is has the microphone built with the button so that I don't have to go through the telephone unit. I also didn't have to have a great, big unit sitting there. I had to go through the telephone line with the first type of device I got and it was almost the size of a phone too and everything had to go through there. This is much better in the sense that it's got the microphone here on me and I don't have to go through a sensor or any place in my house or the phone.

The only thing that I find a little clumsy is the actual unit itself. I wear it around my neck and it gets to be kind of heavy. I asked if they had a wristwatch one and they sent me a wristwatch band but I can't get the unit onto the band. It's so big too that I wouldn't want to wear it on my wrist and I prefer something like that. But I carry it with me all the time. It's small enough to get it into my pocket and I can wear it around my neck or underneath a coat.

NAPLES, FLORIDA -- I followed John Walsh ever since he lost his son and kind of kept in touch with what he does with his time in remembrance of his son. And when he advertised for GreatCall, it made me feel like it was a good company. I used a different service before who were supposed to be able to call me immediately on my own phone and make sure everything was okay when the device went off but that never happened. I was gone for five days, someone else was in my home and they never gave me a call. So when I came back home and I found out that they had not called and that thing had been off for five days, I quit them.

With GreatCall, I have the little thing that I can carry in my pocket and it has a little clip on it but I would like a watch strap on it. That would be handier than picking up out of the clip all the time and worrying about losing it off my shirt tail or waistband. I tested it to see if they'd respond and they answered me immediately.

I also took my thing to Tennessee. I took the unit that I can program and I did not have to plug that in for two days but I could still get in touch with them without that cord during that period. It says there that it's good for up to six hours but it's good for two days. I put the little thing in the front part of my pocket where I fastened it then I got to my daughter's and forgot about it. Two days later, I ran to my purse to see if I had it and it was still charged. They didn't let me know that it would last at least that long. I'm simply happy with them and I've recommended them more than once.

WELLSTON, MICHIGAN -- I'm technically in good health, but I live alone in Wellston, northern Michigan. And since I'm 81 years old, I decided to get a medical device. So I called the Manistee senior citizens group and they provided me with a list of the different medical alert systems. I'd also seen the advertisement of Lively on TV, and I got really sold me on them because as long as I'm in an area where cell phones work, their alert service works. So toward the end of April last year, I went with them, and so far I've been satisfied with their customer service.

At the time I bought my Lively device, my daughter was going to be out of state for a couple of months. At first her feelings were hurt because she said, “Well, Mom, I call you everyday.” I said, “Yeah, but then you're going to be over 1,000 miles away. We can still talk on the phone, but what are you going to do for me?” So my main thing was, I preferred to have an alert device and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

About every six to eight weeks, I do a test call. In fact, I have a son who lives downstate 220 miles away, and when I made a test call there, they answered immediately. I no more than push the alert button when somebody answers at once by saying, “What is your emergency?” At that point I say, “This is a test call.” Sometimes they ask for my name and password, and at other times they don't. But I am talking to a person.

Several people in the last few months have seen me with my medical alert on and they asked me what I thought of it. I've had two people who have indicated to me that they were definitely interested and will check further into it. I also told them to watch that they get Lively's $10-off coupon.

M3C Lively: November 22 (1)

Eric: We were calling just to see if you had a few minutes to talk about your experience with GreatCall medical alert device, sir.

DICK: Oh. Yeah. I have one of those. Yeah.

Eric: We were just wondering if you had a few minutes to talk about your experience with GreatCall, so far.

DICK: Well, I don't really have any experience with it. I just carry it around.

Eric: I do have to mention our call may be recorded. If you don't mind me asking, what concerns were you having that led you to look into getting the medical alert device?

DICK: Well, my son and daughter-in-law were going away and they were worried that I would fall.

Eric: Before using Lively, sir did you try any other medical alert services?

DICK: No.

Eric: Since using Lively, sir, have you noticed any changes in your day-to-day life? Would you say you have less worries or more peace of mind?

DICK: No.

Eric: Or maybe your son and daughter have more peace of mind knowing that you have it?

DICK: I hope they do. They may.

Eric: You haven't had any experience interacting with the team at Lively? Have you maybe pushed the button on accident or anything like that?

DICK: No, I haven't.

Eric: How would you say your medical device fits into your everyday lifestyle? Do you find it easy to use and comfortable to carry around with you?

DICK: Well, I never use it. I just carry it around.

Eric: How do you feel you would rate your experience so far so far with GreatCall on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, 5 means you'd recommend them to a friend and 1 star means you've been very dissatisfied?

DICK: I guess 5.

Eric: Would you mind, sir if I shared your comments and that star rating on our website to make your feedback available to GreatCall?

DICK: No.

Eric: No, you don't want me to or no, it would be okay?

DICK: It'd be okay.

Eric: I do have to mention our call may be recorded.

Eric: I just have to mention our call may be recorded. If you don't mind me asking, sir, what concerns were you having that led you to look into getting the GreatCall device?

STEPHEN: Well, I'm an amputee. So, I just wanna make sure that if I fall that somebody can be alerted.

Eric: Before using Lively, did you try any other medical alert services?

STEPHEN: No.

Eric: Since using Lively, sir, can you describe any changes in your day-to-day life? Would you say you have less worries or more peace of mind or anything like that?

STEPHEN: Oh, kinda more peace of mind. But let me ask you a question. I do find it cumbersome to have it around my neck. Do you guys have anything that can clip to a belt?

Eric: I'm unaware if I have anything like that 'cause I don't work directly with them.

[Eric provides the customer service number to Stephen]

Eric: Have you had any interactions with the team there at Lively if you've had to press your button or maybe you've hit it on accident or anything like that?

STEPHEN: Not so far, thank goodness.

Eric: Overall, how do you feel you would rate your experience with them so far on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, 5 would mean you'd recommend them to a friend and 1 star means you were very dissatisfied with them?

STEPHEN: 5.

Eric: Would it be all right with you if I shared those comments on our website to make your feedback available to GreatCall?

STEPHEN: No, I'd rather not.

Eric: I can do it anonymously. Usually we only share first name...

STEPHEN: Yeah, anonymously. That's fine.

Eric: I do have to mention our call may be recorded.

GOLDEN VALLEY, MINNESOTA -- Transcribed by: Eileene

M3C Lively: November 22 (1)

Eric: I just have to mention our call may be recorded. If you don't mind me asking, ma'am, what concerns were you having that led you to look into getting a GreatCall device?

LAURIEL: Well, I felt it was necessary.

Eric: Before using GreatCall, ma'am, did you try any other medical alert services that are like that?

LAURIEL: No.

Eric: Since you've had your device now, ma'am, have you noticed any changes in your day-to-day life? Would you say that you have less worries or more peace of mind or anything like that?

LAURIEL: No. No. I'm fine.

Eric: What about any experience you've had interacting with the team at Lively? Have you maybe pushed your button on purpose or on accident, or...?

LAURIEL: No.

Eric: How would you say your device fits into your everyday lifestyle? Do you think it's comfortable to wear and easy to carry around with you and easy to use, and things like that?

LAURIEL: Well, it's okay. It hopefully will serve the purpose that I think I need.

Eric: Have there been any highlights or comments regarding your experience with Lively you'd like to mention to them?

LAURIEL: No.

Eric: Overall, how do you feel you would just rate your experience with GreatCall on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, 5 would mean you'd recommend them to a friend and 1 star means you've been very dissatisfied?

LAURIEL: Fine.

Eric: 5?

LAURIEL: It's good.

Eric: So, would you say 5 stars, ma'm?

LAURIEL: Mm-hmm. [Yes]

Eric: Would it be okay finally, if I shared your comments on our website to make your feedback available to the team there at Lively and GreatCall?

LAURIEL: Well, I don't want my name used.

Eric: I can do it anonymously ma'am. We usually only use first names. So, it'll just say Lauriel from Golden Valley. But I can do it anonymously so that way, your name is not on there if you'd prefer that.

LAURIEL: It's kind of an unusual name.

Eric: I'll do it anonymously for you, so you first name is not on there if that's okay.

LAURIEL: Okay.

Eric: Again, I have to mention our call may be recorded.
