Customer Service to Make Arrangements for Elderly and Handicapped

ILLINOIS -- Please know I thoroughly agree appalled by Allegiant Airline. I have an 85-year-old mother who is hearing impaired. She cannot speak on a phone. Allegiant would not allow me to make special arrangements for her on a flight that she is traveling alone on. The agent in customer service was the worse. For two days, I tried to reach their customer service for a total of over 1 hour and 45 minutes of waiting time.

When I got through, I was told that "Allegiant treats all of their customers the same." Such a script! I am appalled that Allegiant did not allow me to make special arrangements for her. I have done so with no problem on United, American, Southwest, British Airways, and US Air. Where is Allegiant's customer service?

ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS -- Traveling with a animal is very stressful and it was my first time. And I got all the way to my seat on the plane when the flight attendant told me my pet carrier wasn't going to fit. She was being unreasonable and very rude, she didn't even ask me if I needed help trying to fit the carrier. My animal had to stay behind. I called the airline and they wouldn't give me a credit on my Account for my next trip or a refund and the pets ticket was more than mine. You pay 100$ for your animal to seat under the seat in front of you. And the plane is not clean at all.

Cost of Tickets/Cancellations

MESA, ARIZONA -- On April 17 I booked a round trip fight for my granddaughter and daughter to fly from Colorado Springs to Phoenix (June) and back (July). I thought booking early would be good to get a good fare. The cost of the ticket was great ($70.68 for two, both ways)! However, by the time they added all the fees, including both carry-on and checked baggage, the cost tripled to $222.18. I even declined to choose their seats because that was another fee! This week (last week in April) my daughter called and said she had gotten a job which will start in May so will be able to come. I was very happy about that as she has been looking for a job for several months.

I called Allegiant to see what our options were. There were three: We could cancel, but would have to pay $50 per person, per way PLUS FEES (which would be an additional $250-$350) and added to the original cost is about $500 for something we wouldn't use. Yikes! We could change dates for a cost of $50 per person, per way (an additional $200 when added to the original cost is over $400). We could just let it go.

I wasn't about to pay another $200 to change the dates, for a total of over $400 for two $35 tickets! The agent said the best thing is to let it go, which is what we'll do. I could see maybe charging for the cost of the ticket because it was off the market for a while, but the fees? Unbelievable how they really get you coming and going (Wait, let me get this straight, for nothing at all!)

Don't Fly Allegiant Airlines!
By -

This airline will kill you with baggage fees. And they will charge twice and then deny. I can prove I paid for my son's baggage online and then the gate agent had no record of it when he checked in and forced him to pay again. When I caught what had happened I called the only number available and the agent stated that he would not have to pay on his return flight as there was a credit on his itinerary.

What do you think happened? The gate agent on the return flight stated that his bags had not been paid for of course! He paid again! So now Allegiant owes me/my son $70. I sent an email as that's the only recourse the consumer has and of course got NO response. So the consumer has no recourse but to wait for them to reply. CANNOT speak to a manager. My advice to you is DO NOT spend your money here! They are a SHADY company. This coming from someone who travels extensively for work and flies ALL airlines. Never have I been treated like this.

Lost Baggage
By -

LAS VEGAR, NEVADA -- I have no complaints about the flight, the fees, the trip, but they lost my bag on a direct flight. How is this even possible? Since I was flying home not to my vacation destination, there is no compensation. So obviously I have had to buy all new toiletries for my family, but the part that really makes me mad is that I have heard from no one. I have left multiple messages with their "baggage claim" voicemail, the one that promises to call you back, and nothing. This bag contained all my children's summer clothes and all of my summer clothes. They only have like one or two pairs of shorts left to wear.

Our swimsuits, my glasses and extra contacts all in this suitcase, along with other important items. I don't have the budget to go out and re-buy my kid's summer wardrobes, not to mention mine. It is also contained the kid's souvenir t-shirts from Disney World. Not replaceable! Even a call to let me know the course of action or someone to say we are working on it would be nice. But I have no recourse, nothing I can do. I am so frustrated! We took this airline because it fit into our budget, but never again. I should have stuck with Southwest!

Worst Airline Ever - Allegiant Air
By -

I attempted to take a flight from St. Petersburg, FL to Tennessee last night which was supposed to leave at 6:35. Allegiant announced that there would be a 4 hour delay due to "mechanical problems." Similar to other posts I have read on here. Once 10:30 P.M. rolled around, Allegiant then announced that it may not leave until 3:30 A.M. This was supposed to be a quick weekend trip leaving out on Friday evening and coming back on Sunday. I had family that drove 2 hours to pick me up only to find out the flight was eventually cancelled and would not leave until the following day.

This is the second problem I've experienced with Allegiant Air's "mechanical problems" which makes me question whether their planes are actually certified to fly. The first incident I had with Allegiant required the plane to actually turn around about 15 minutes after takeoff, again because of "mechanical problems." Another 2 hour delay was the result of this "mechanical problem." One has to wonder when the FAA will step in as 90% of the posts seem to relate to "mechanical" issues.

Fees for gate passes
By -

My daughter is 12 and a seasoned air traveler. We bought her a ticket on Allegiant Air to fly from Rapid City to Phoenix. The price was, probably too good to be worth it. Had I known then what I know now, none of us will ever travel with this Airline.

6/27/2009 9:30 (MDT) Rapid City Regional Airport - Allegiant Air-Rapid City, SD. Her grandmother took her to the airport and checked in. She asked for a gate pass to take my daughter back to the gate. Allegiant Air refused stating "We do not give gate passes, but for another $100 dollars you can buy a unaccompanied minor ticket and you will allowed to go with her to the gate." Again she stated, "She's 12 yrs old. I just to make sure she get on the plane OK."

My mother in law then asked to speak with supervisor, who stated the same thing as the ticket agent did. My mother in law again repeated why, the supervisor then got and said "We need $100 so you can take her to the gate." I have never heard of such a thing. I called multiple airlines and not single one, except for Allegiant Air is charging for gate passes.

Zero Accommodation For Travel Disruption Due To Swine Flu
By -

ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- I had a flight scheduled on Allegiant Airlines for travel to South Carolina to meet a Chinese business CEO who was scheduled to be in the US on business the week of May 4, 2009. Due to the global Swine Flu epidemic, his travel was cancelled because he would be quarantined as a health safety precaution upon his return to China.

When I called to cancel my flight with Allegiant I was informed that the Flexibility Fee and Service Fee I had been charged when booking my flight would be forfeited by cancelling my reservation. A credit would be issued for the remainder of my purchase funds to be applied to my next flight with them.

Allegiant admitted they had no contingency policy for the Swine Flu issue and but regardless were not making any accommodations to passengers who's travel was disrupted by the flu. Because Allegiant has $150 of my money already I will be forced to use them again although it will most certainly be the last time. Oh, and by the way, the fees they are not refunding will have to be paid again when I rebook!

It is unbelievable that in the current market environment where corporate greed is so transparent that an airline would consciously refuse to do the right thing. When thinking about companies that are built to last or go from good to great, it will be impossible to consider Allegiant Airlines among that fraternity.

Ticket Counter Closure!!!
By -

FORT WAYNE, INDIANA -- Beware folks! My wife and I recently decided to try this airline, BIG MISTAKE!! We decided that over the Christmas holiday we would visit my family in northern Indiana to tell them the great news that we were 21 weeks pregnant with a baby girl then off to Orlando to see my wife's family for New Years to do the same plus celebrate my wife's birthday (Jan. 1).

No one can help morning sickness so as we arrived at Fort Wayne 30 minutes prior to departure we thought we would be fine as we looked at the security line and there were only 3 people in line... wait there is no one at the counter to check our bags... My wife gets to security and tells them no one has checked our bags, they start calling but no one answers. Security helps by going in back to try to find someone.... no one, 15 minutes prior to departure I call the long distance number to try to get help... 10 minutes on hold and over the loud speaker we hear our plane doors are closing!

Finally I get someone on the phone who tells me I should be there 2 hours early, 33 years of flying and never missed one till now. He tells me it's my fault and can't help. My option is to postal mail the company, gee thanks, that helps. He also tells me I can't speak to a supervisor; company policy.

My problem is that on my itinerary that was emailed to me at purchase time doesn't state that their ticket counter closes nor does my printed boarding pass. They have offered no help or offered a fare voucher, be forewarned folks, our holiday has been ruined. Don't let them fool you, read the small print.

Online Ticket Purchase

Allegiant website for travel reservations is quite deceptive. Everything is opt out, rather than opt in. If you have never used the Allegiant website: beware. Allegiant has a pricing function called Trip Flex which is well hidden and it goes relatively unnoticed until you have submitted your reservation and billed. Afterwards, when you see this charge and do diligent research, you find it can be deleted, but can only receive a credit voucher which means you would have to fly Allegiant again to recover this charge.
