Really Poor Customer Service
By -

MADISON, WISCONSIN -- We have bought from Ashley Furniture before and never had any problems. Then we spent over $2000 on a dining room set. First of all the delivery guys gave us a "window" when they are going to show up. My husband works third shift and got up early to meet them. They show up almost an hour and a half later. No one called to let us know they'd be late. When they showed up two of our chairs were already broken and the pedestal was scratched. When I called the store to make a comment on the delivery service I was told to call a 1-800 number. After being bounced back and forth there I gave up. We finally got our chairs and pedestal a few weeks later.

Fast forward 6 months and we buy a house. We hired professional movers so our table would be safe. They take the tabletop off and the whole table falls apart. Seems the delivery guys "forgot" a major bolt. I called the manager, he was "in a meeting" and called back later. Directed me to a number for a technician.

When that number was called they told us the store needed to take care of it. Next thing I know our salesman is calling, Ya the Manager dumped us back in his lap. We had pictures and we had sent them. It was obvious that this 6 month old table shouldn't look like this. I then got directed to the head of the warehouse and he finally came and brought us a new pedestal (it took him two trips also because he didn't have the bolt on his first trip). I have never heard from that manager again.

Ashley wants your money but then they want you to leave them alone. For a purchase this big I expected more customer service. Wait just being their customer I expected more customer service. It shouldn't matter how much I spent. I will NEVER do business with them again and I tell everyone I know to shop elsewhere.

Learn From My Mistake

TROY, ALABAMA -- My wife & I recently purchased new Ashley living room set & dining room set (total=$3500). We've had some problems since the day it was delivered. Some pieces were damaged & never made it off the truck, so we had to wait months for replacements. The BIG problem I'm having now is that our dining room table is ruined. This is what happened: We sit down to a Sunday dinner after church. When we're done with our meal my wife goes to gather up the dishes off of the dining room table & wipe it off. When she notices two water rings on the table that was put there from our tea glasses, she finishes cleaning up.

The next day the water rings are still there, and the table top finish is now blistered from the water rings. A day later I look & the finish is now flaking off, now revealing the particle board material that the top finish is glued to. I look at the bottom side of the table & it says "Made in China" stamped underneath the table. Now at this point I'm very disappointed with myself for not researching Ashley Furniture before we spent money with them. An Ashley rep did call us back about this, and one question she asked was "Why didn't we use a coaster under our tea glasses." This is a dining room table for crying out loud!

We bought a SOLID oak table 5 years ago from Wood You Furniture here in Alabama, and we've NEVER used coasters on it, and we've NEVER gotten any water rings on the table from a sweaty tea glass that has hurt the finish. Sure you're going to have a water ring, but when you wipe it up, it's gone. No blistering, no flaking, no staring at particle board when you sit down for Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family. Sorry for the sarcasm, but you get the picture. Oh by the way, Ashley says it does not warranty water damage, and evidently we're stuck with it. Thank you for your time, & I hope this helps the next person who is deciding on purchasing furniture. God Bless.

Insisted Numerous Times I Will Be Paying Cash on Delivery

RED DEER, ALASKA -- My wife and I bought a dining room suite, and some living room tables. Total approx. $4,500.00. Numerous times insisting that we would be paying cash on delivery. I suggested we decide on a sum as a down payment prior to delivery and the salesperson drew up a written agreement. As I thought I understood what this agreement was I did not read it thoroughly. I paid the suggested down payment and my wife and I left the store, expecting the delivery of our furniture in 3 to 4 weeks as stated. 1 week later I received a letter and credit card from City financial confirming the fact that I now was in a financial relationship with them for the furniture.

I had in fact signed a contract financing it. As you can imagine...I was furious, but screwed. Not matter what I did, because I had signed this agreement without reading it I was on the hook for it. Refusing to accept the furniture was not possible, as well refusing to pay balance would put me in a bad credit situation with the finance company. I returned to the store and tore a strip off of the salesperson I dealt with, in front of their co-workers as well as other customers, and have told everyone I know. 6 months later the furniture looks like it is 6 years old, Chinese junk. 100% bad experience, do not recommend shopping there.

Damaged Furniture No Resolution

WOODBRIDE, VIRGINIA -- To make a long story not too long these people have been so rude to me about everything. They will not fix or repair my scratched up tables and won't compensate me for the damage. They threaten to charge a 30% restocking fee if I return the damaged tables so they are trying to force me to keep their crap tables. The manager at the store was horrible and the manager with delivery was kind enough to offer a full refund on delivery but then hours later called back and said she couldn't do it.

This place is insane. They are rude cheap and overall unprofessional. Do not buy from them regardless of the deal they offer. They have horrible track record of cheating people and I will make every effort to tell as many people as possible.

Terrible wood dining tables

YORKTON -- Bought this Carlyle dining set from Ashley Furniture. Had this table 2 weeks and it has tons of scratches from what I have no idea. I use placemats that when they move on the table it leaves scratches from cloth??? Yesterday someone was writing out an invoice on my table and all the numbers are now imprinted into the table. Not impressed. I can see it if a person spent like $300 on a table I know you get what you pay for but this is ridiculous and will never ever buy Ashley brand again. Beware of their so-called hard woods (it is soft).

Out of Stock / Discontinued

ROHNERT PARK, CALIFORNIA -- As I write this I am livid and literally shaking!!! I cannot believe that this company is still in business given the horrible customer service that they provide. My husband and I were very excited at the thought of buying new furniture. We happened to drive by Ashley and decided to give it a try. Of course the customer service prior to the purchase is superb. Lots of advice, very patient and till the very end of the transaction, very courteous. Then the NIGHTMARE begins. They had told us 2-4 weeks for delivery.

My quest for the truth commenced last Thursday when I called to follow up on the ETA. Since then I have been given responses such as: "furniture has been discontinued... certain item is not in stock until March 25th... Not sure when delivery will take place." I have had to place most of the calls. I do get calls but every time they tell me something different.

At this point I am out $4200 and tons of headaches!!! I don't know what to do. How can they get away with this? How come no one is aware. I wish I would have read this before and trust me... we would have never even looked towards the furniture store. Now I'm afraid that the furniture will not be in good conditions and if I ever will get it all!!! HELP!!!

Bad Service

We bought a dinner set from Ashley on 11/14/2010 and were informed that the furniture will be delivered within 2-6 days. In addition, the sell agent even orally told us that we could receive it within 3 weeks so that we could use it on Christmas. However, we did not receive it before Christmas. After many phone calls and several visits to the store, we got another date for deliver: the end of Feb. 2011. Now, we called again. One representative told us that the furniture will be delivered in March. Another told us it will be delivered in May. We were also told that we can get the refund. How ridiculous!

After waiting so long and invest so much time and emotion to get the furniture, we just get refund for nothing? Ashley does not care about its customers at all. I'll definitely not buy Ashley's furniture and will tell friends and colleagues the same thing.

Delaware Store

DELMAR, DELAWARE -- See below for my own issues. This is a copy of the email I sent to the address provided by my3cents.com. I am about to post a complaint asking for other dissatisfied customers to join me for a class action lawsuit, and the website gave me your email. My complaint is simply about the quality of the furniture I have purchased one year ago. I tried to put up with it because of my then busy schedule, but decided to act before the end of the one-year warranty (which doesn't cover bad quality anyway!).

The chairs and tables' hardware is defective; everything comes apart, and I have to tighten it every weekend. It became part of my weekly cleaning routine -- WHICH IS NOT NORMAL!!! Also, I cannot use the tables, whether from the dining room set or the living-room set without leaving an indelible scratch on them. As far as the sofa and loveseat are concerned, the top part of the back cushions comes "unsewed" fairly easily. These are sofas, not decorative objects. They should withstand a minimum of daily use!

The Delaware store's offer was to ship me a hardware kit -- at no charge! WOW! Thanks! But, I would still have to pay for a technician to come and install it, and they were so nice that they offered to provide me with a list of the technicians they like to work with -- Gee! Thanks again! Needless to say that after such a slap in the face, I am hardly willing to negotiate anymore and almost happy to gather my forces and start a class action lawsuit! I seriously doubt there is anything you can do about this after my previous experiences with Ashley's local customer service.

Delivered "Manufacturing Defect" Table - Won't Back Their Products

ATLANTA, GEORGIA -- In June 2013, I purchased a faux marble kitchen table from Ashley Furniture. There were scratches and rub marks on a major portion of the table top. Because of its sprayed material a consumer would not have been able to notice unless the light was shining directly on the table at an angle. Since I did not report this until after the 48 hour window, Ashley is not taking any responsibility for a table they say is damaged (not a manufacturing defect).

The Ashley representative who came over to inspect the table claimed it's not a manufacturing defect; therefore, the one year warranty does not apply. There is no evidence they do any quality control themselves before delivering the product. When you make a complaint, the representative that comes over to your house to look at your table, claims he doesn't work for Ashley before he/she gives you his opinion of what is wrong with the table. However, he/she does work for Ashley, so you're not getting a fair opinion.

The table comes with a limited one-year warranty only if there is a manufacturing defect. If the representative (who does work for Ashley) claims it is not a manufacturing defect, they won't cover the table. I will never buy anything again from Ashley Furniture. They don't back up their products.

This Leather on Chairs

NEW JERSEY -- Maybe 4 years ago we bought a nice table and chairs from Ashley furniture. The chairs have fabric backs and leather seats. Well lately I have noticed little signs that tears are beginning in many of my chairs. It seems as if the leather is so thin that the chairs have not held up to normal use. I don't even have small children in my home and we basically use the table for dinner.

I called the company and although they spoke to me there is no recourse. I am out of luck. This was a set I thought I would have for many years. The woman on the phone asked me if I conditioned the leather and I said "no." I have my leather couch for over 10 years and never conditioned that either and that looks awesome. They skimped on the thickness of the leather and now it's ripping. End of story.
