Bally Total Fitness Is a Scam
By -

35620 FREMONT BOULEVARD, FREMONT, CA -- There is not a definitive way you can cancel their membership. They do not process cancellation in the gym facility even though they do process enrollment and payments. They do not honor what they say - I called and cancelled the membership and lady I talked to (Karen) said that she made an exception and had cancelled my membership. I also sent a written letter a couple of days later - just to be sure. They have charged my credit card again for another month and when I called today (2 weeks after cancellation), they are denying that my membership was cancelled.

I guess I will have to try certified mail next. But the point is that they have deliberately made the cancellation process so difficult that they can keep charging your credit card as long as they want. My sincere advice - do not do any business with them and don't be sorry later if you do. They do not deserve to stay in business.

Bally's is the worst of them. Incapable of solving minor issues at the club level.
By -

NORTH MIAMI, FLORIDA -- I have been a member of Bally's since November of 1986. I currently workout at the Bally's at Waterways in North Mimi Beach. As is typical with this company, minor issues which can be easily solved at the club level escalate to the point where customers have to take their concerns one or two steps further and either call corporate, typically a waste of time, a some regulatory agency like the department of health, county code enforcement, etc...

The club is dirty. The people who work there are young and incapable of problem-solving and the manager, Katherine **. is about as useful as ** on a bull. I laugh in their face every time I am approached to invite a friend or family member for a "free" 7-day trial membership. If you are low class, do not care about the environment you spend time in and love to work out with slobs who blow their noses in the sinks, Bally's is for you.

Bally Total Fitness - A nightmare scenario
By -

This is the worst company I have dealt within my entire adult life. They operate sharp business practices and have one of the worst customer service in modern times. When I signed up, I was never told it's for 3 years. When I moved, the closest Bally center to me was about 21 miles. Yet attempt to cancel was unsuccessful. I kept paying even though I was no longer using their club. I wrote 4 letters with no response. It takes about an hour for someone to come to the phone sometimes when you call. I am still paying 6 months later. Even after a arrived at a settlement, they reneged. They are weird.

Don't do business with Bally Total Fitness

ENCINO, CALIFORNIA -- The Encino, CA Bally Total Fitness club fired its entire maintenance staff and now there's trash everywhere especially the men's locker room. At least a dozen lockers have broken or missing doors that no one is repairing. It took three months to fix a blow dryer on the wall. They aren't replacing worn out floor pads.

The paper dispenser in the men's toilet fell off so now there's a huge hole in the wall between stalls so you get to watch the guy next to you take a crap. The place stinks like a sewer. And here's an amazing thing, the staff can't change channels on the monitors on weekends because they're not allowed access to the remote control. I'm getting out of this dive, this slime pit at the end of this year's contract.

Bad Attitudes & Dirty Facility
By -

NOVI, MICHIGAN -- The only positive thing I can say about this Bally's location is the group fitness instructors are great, they really are the only reason I would consider returning to this location. However, the gym leaves MUCH to be desired. The manager is stereotypical gym rat with a bad attitude and serious issues communicating with his members. Watch out for this guy, I recommend joining any other Bally's than this one. Trust me, it's worth the drive to another gym to by-pass this guy, ICK.

Overall, the gym is in need of repair, tiles missing in the hallways, dirty weights thrown into Rubbermaid bin, broken machines and little thought to member services. Upon check in, all the employees are chatting it up at the desk and can't even muster up a half-hearted "hello" to the guests and appear to care less if you have a question or would like to become a member. Which I why I suggest you pass this one by and look for a gym that is happy and appreciative to have paying customers.

Calling Customer Service - Hit # to Get Through to Someone.

I have been paying a monthly fee for my Bally's membership for years now. This was a month-to-month program that they put me on after I cancelled my previous membership. They called me and I agreed that the new club where I was living might be better. It's not. It's as filthy as the first place I had been and I won't even consider showering there because there are so many weirdos lurking around the showers and sauna hoping for a peek at some unsuspecting guy. They have a sign saying no loitering, but it is not not enforced. Ridiculous.

Anyway, my biggest beef was that I was going to be out of the country and called to cancel my membership. None of the prompts on the voicemail system let me contact anyone...just endless prompts. I started pressing various buttons and apparently, the # (pound) button works to let you connect to a live person. It wasn't stated anywhere, but I eventually got through. Anyway, he didn't want me to cancel and instead promised me two free months without paying dues - I got one month free and they billed me again. So frustrating. Choose ANY other fitness club over this place.

Nightmare

Gyms are dirty, equipment is falling apart. Getting in touch with them via phone to deal with account issues is near impossible. Signed up for a "fixed low monthly price for life" deal, but in the fine print it must have said they can raise the price whenever they want because they kept raising it every year. The promotion they used to get me to sign up was a total scam - designed to be as misleading as possible. After quitting, 4 months later I get a bill saying I am 4 months past due. Can't get in touch with them to resolve it. This place is a consumer nightmare. Stay away.

Worst Contract Of My Life
By -

WORST CONTRACT EVER; it has been 4 months after I cancelled this guys and today I received another bill for four months dues. They kept charging me after a two year contract, call them and said it was in the original contract that I had to cancel after the two years period, call then to cancel and had to be with a written letter, sent them the written letter, and after four months now I received a bill for more than 80 dollars. I just can't believe it, I feel nothing but swindled. I have expended hours over the phone with this people and as you can see, still more to go... WORST CONTRACT OF MY LIFE... AND CUSTOMER SERVICES TOO!!!

Bally's Total Bull Crap!!!
By -

Because of the economy everyone is scrutinizing every cent they have. So, if you decide to go workout at your local gym and BALLY'S TOTAL FITNESS happens to be the closest and the less expensive one - PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP!!! I've been a member there for about 12 years, never have I had a problem with them UNTIL today.

Just a couple of days ago, I bought vitamins with a check, and my membership was due to expire next month. Well, I be...these ** used my check number to sign me up on auto draft. I was looking at my account and saw this auto draft from Bally's (which cause me to overdraft my account). I called to see what this was about, which to my surprise Bally signed me up for auto draft.

I asked for a refund because it was an UNauthorized debt and they refused to refund me my money, that "THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO." - No wonder they went bankrupt, everyone just got tired of their bull crap!!! I'm so pissed off!!! So avoid this gym - I think you'll be safer going somewhere else. :0/ GERRRRRR!!! I'M SO MAD!!! And extra!!!

Bally - Biggest Scam! Don't Join
By -

Biggest SCAM!!! Don't push yourself into hell!! They tried all the ways to attract me join the club in the beginning. After I start workout, I found that the staff are so rude with nasty attitude, facilities are so dirty. Any staff can yell at you at any time as they like. I was so regret to join. Then I tried to cancel my membership in June, but the still charge me in July. Then I called again, they told me they don't have any document about my cancellation, then they kept charge me for August, September.

I was so upset, I called again and again to cancel my membership. They kept charge me every month. It had become my nightmare. I am so tired of arguing with these cheaters!!! By the way, I don't have any contract with them.
