Wrongful Termination of Employees
By -

WOONSOCKET, RHODE ISLAND -- My friend has been a very recent victim of CVS Caremark's wrongful termination of employees. He was accused of stealing "many things" and the "Loss Prevention Department" of CVS Caremark had sufficient "evidence" to prove that. They even made him sign some agreement to confess of his guilt. My friend had tried to ask whether or not he can be given a day or two to consult with an attorney first before he signs/confesses to anything, and they simply said NO. My friend is young and was so scared and under great pressure when he signed this document.

He has honestly not stolen anything but a piece of candy that he was NOT aware of a price tag ON it. Sometimes CVS offers free candies to customers during holidays, and he had just thought it's one of those. Then a guy from the "Loss Prevention Department" of CVS Caremark spoke to him many, many weeks after and suspended him the same day they talked (AFTER his shift was over). Sources say he's basically fired.

One of my good friends who is a supervisor at a CVS photo lab told me that this isn't the first time she's heard someone get fired over such a minimal matter. CVS apparently is trying to cut budget and is singling out innocent employees to terminate. If it was someone else on my friend's shift that day, then he/she would've been the victim. I am very positive that employees of the corporation or any retail stores, for that matter, had one way or another "stolen" something. And to single out my friend to terminate is just completely immoral.

CVS does this because they're big and they know they can get away with it. Oh, so the numbers of this specific store isn't doing too well? Okay, we'll just pick and choose a few people to fire so we can balance out the financials. It's just disgusting and sickening. As I've mentioned earlier, this is NOT the first time it's happened. CVS has had a record of bad reputation especially in my friend's district.

Bad Customer Service!
By -

PASSYUNK AVE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA -- I am a loyal customer of CVS. Tonight I visited the South Philadelphia PA store and I was very upset by the treatment I received. I had quite a few items that I was planning to purchase. One of those items was Feria hair color In the hair color aisle. There was a sign that stated Feria hair color $6.99 all shades. When I went to the register the hair color rang up at the normal price of $9.99.

When I questioned the cashier she very abruptly said "Show me where you saw that". I brought her to the aisle and showed her. Another young woman came up and said "That ain't on sale, it's only one shade". I pointed out that the sign specifically stated all shades. Then she changed her story and said. "Oh, well that's an old sign". So, I asked her why it was still on display to customers. She was very nasty and disrespectful to me.

I asked for her Manager. She stated that SHE is the Manager. So, I asked for her Manager to which she stated that he was not there. She said "I ain't giving it to you for $6.99, cuz it ain't $6.99 just because we didn't take the sign down from last week". There was no date on the sign. I told her that I would not be purchasing any of the items and that CVS had lost a good customer and that she was a very poor Manager (if indeed she really is the Manager).

To CVS Upper Management I would like to say that I am appalled. Not over a few dollars... (Though I do believe that I should have been given the product at that price and at the least an apology). No, it is about the demeanor and horrible customer service that your "Manager" displayed to a customer... A loyal good customer.

I am employed as a Customer Service Manager. Every day I deal with "difficult" customers and my goal is to make sure that the reps that I manage and those customers that we serve are treated with respect, so that they continue to patronize the company. I listen to their complaint and if the company has made a mistake I try to rectify it. I do not argue with the customers, insult them or EVER treat them with disrespect, nor do my reps... Not even if the customer is wrong.

I would ask you to investigate the conduct of your Managers and why there are sale signs from last week still hanging on a Tuesday evening. That is not your customer's responsibility, but your staff and ultimately your Management team.

Unfair Treatment of Employee
By -

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA -- CVS Pharmacy terminated my husband after 20 years of excellent service with them. With no warning. The reason for his termination was changed 3 times, the reason that they finally stuck with was that he had one of his employees titled wrong in the computer. She was titled as a photo lab supervisor instead of a shift supervisor. The real kicker is that my husband (the store manager) informed his supervisor last year that he was going to train and certify this particular employee on the modules needed to open and close the store to help cover shifts because he had lost 2 other shifts.

His supervisor was very much aware of this action and not once did he mention to my husband that this was a violation of Company Policy and would end up causing his termination. This employee has been carrying keys to this store for approx 9 months and nothing was said about it. There was no loss from her carrying keys, no problems whatsoever. His immediate supervisor lied about knowing this employee was opening and closing the store. What a joke, is he completely blind as to what is going on in the stores in his district.

My husband has been a manager for CVS for 20 years and has an EXCELLENT company record. Every store he has managed has made money. He has always done everything asked of him, from going away for 3 weeks to help in other stores, helping other managers straighten up their stores, help with other inventories in different stores etc. He has managed for CVS in Northern VA, Washington DC, Maryland and finally here in West Virgina, where we moved to raise our children near their family.

This is unfair, and unjust treatment to my husband. What a ridiculous reason to terminate an employee who has always given 100% to his job and spent the last 20 years of his life with this company. It sickens me that companies are so selfish and so uncaring of their good employees. My husband is a strong person and this has only made him stronger mentally and most importantly in his faith in our Lord and Savior. God will take care of our family but it breaks my heart that his immediate supervisors cared so little about him as a person and his performance.

Simply he could have just rectified the situation by changing this employees code in the computer instead of terminating him. Approx 1 week after he was let go, this same employee was changed in the computer and is now titled shift supervisor. How CVS can justify this is beyond me and my understanding. An the amazing thing is approx 3 weeks before he was let go, he received a raise and was given excellent ratings on his review... I will not now nor will I ever give another dime to CVS because of this unfair treatment. Thank You.

Miserable Staff, Always Unprofessional

POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK -- Today I walked into the nearest CVS just to buy a couple things, when I first walked on the line I noticed the older gentleman in front of me having a hard time hearing the miserable looking cashier (who couldn't make any attempt of speaking louder for the customer to hear) being kind as could be while the cashier wouldn't even look up at him. I then noticed an even longer line of people trying to pick up their photos with a lady trying to get someone's attention for some assistance.

When I eventually got to the front of the line the cashier finally decided to walk over and assist the lady. Why he couldn't get anyone else to come help her? I'm not sure. But when he walked back over to me only to ring up everything I had for being way over the price they should have been (being that many of the items were supposed to be on sale, which I stated only to get a reply that the "sales ended" whatever that's supposed to mean.)

I then just paid him and grabbed the change without looking, my girlfriend then walked into the bathroom real quick, while she was in there I just straightened out the change I had received in my wallet when I noticed I had only gotten $12 back instead of the $22 I was supposed to receive. While doing this I noticed what appeared to be a customer with some food stained on his shirt staring at me from down the aisle with an angry expression on his face.

I then walked back on line to try to solve the situation with my change. At first the original cashier was hesitant as I expected and then asked for the 12 in my hand back. But then the same guy from the aisle walked up to him asking what he was doing, the original cashier then told him the situation, (still mumbling by the way) and asked him if he should give me the right amount of change. The angry manager I now presumed then stated and I quote "No don't give him ** right in front of me. Then grabbed the money and receipts from the day and walked into the office.

About 8 minutes later he walked back out with my 12 in hand saying that it was the appropriate amount of money and handed it to me. As I went to show him my receipt he interrupted me raising his voice stating that I was incorrect now that I was over the 12 dollars and just mainly mad about the everything I had just witnessed told him off and walked out. This was the most unprofessional display of management I have ever witnessed and will never go back to a CVS again. Terrible in all aspects and just disgraceful.

Experience at Checkout Today

WAIANAE, HAWAII -- About an hour ago, my son-in-law stood in line to purchase items along with a coupon to redeem a free 12 ounce CVS brand of body wash with a coupon he received through a publication on the internet. He presented the coupon to the cashier who immediately stated, "If it doesn't scan, I'm not taking it". It didn't scan. She then said flat out, "I'm not taking it because it's not scanning!"

Another cashier noticed what was occurring and came over to assist. She pointed out to the frustrated cashier that the directions were printed on the coupon in the event it didn't scan... Which was something to the effect of "Go to Sales, then UPC, then type in the Bar Code".

While the other cashier was assisting her, she stated out loud in front of my son-in-law who was standing right in front of her there at the checkout register, "Why are people using these coupons to get CVS brand soaps?... because I like to use the kind that actually work and not this generic brand". Let's not forget the fact that there were other customers standing in line who heard her comments. OK, now after working several (7) years in retail prior to my current career in education, this is clearly not a good representation of what CVS wants from its employees nor the kind of experience they want for their customers.

Since CVS took over Longs Drugs in my community, I've shopped there countless times and have enjoyed all aspects. This cashier (**), has always displayed professionalism and has always been helpful which leads me to think that perhaps she was having a bad day. Nonetheless, it is still inexcusable to display this kind of behavior.

My son-in-law was embarrassed and uncomfortable. What makes this even more unacceptable is that these CVS coupons are being redeemed to collect items needed for young adults in a program who are trying to get their lives back on track. Care packages are being made to help support their hygiene needs as they work their way back into the workforce and society. This kind of experience could really kill someone's drive...

We are very concerned with this type of service and it's really a turn off. I would like this matter to be addressed and I would like to request that negative comments about CVS products be banned from conversations by your employees because it's simply not true and it's not necessary. Please look into the matter and for the record, I will continue to shop there because it is one of my favorite stores in my community. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. Aloha... ***Also know that my rating in this experience only reflect this particular incident. Other than that, I really like this store! :}

"Sale Items"

GARLAND, TEXAS -- The Bumble Bee Tuna on sale for $ .77, which was labeled SOLID WHITE ALBACORE, which is a great deal, until you open the product, and it's smooshed up bad looking tuna, nothing SOLID in that can. I called my local CVS to talk to one of the mgrs, and explain the problem. He had no response... no "I'm sorry, I haven't had a complaint, I didn't know anything..." No, he does offer to bring the cans up there and he would reimburse me. I said "that's not what I want, I want the 'SOLID WHITE ALBACORE', that was advertised, and unfortunately, falsely done so."

He said, "Well, I could contact Corporate and that would take a while, and I don't even know if they will do anything about it." I stated, "Yes, I would like you to bring it this up with Corporate, and see if they can make it right." His reply, "Well, you bring up the product and then I'll do that."

I have been going to this CVS for over 16 (sixteen) years, and know most employees by name. This particular mgr has never had a 'customer service' bone in his body, since I've shopped there. He has been rude to me, and actually said some very hurtful things to me, and then came back with a remark, "What's the matter, can't you take a joke?" It was a personal remark, and I was deeply hurt by it. I haven't shopped there much, since the incident, several years ago, however, since it is within walking distance, and I still get several scripts filled there on a regular basis.

I expect more from a store. I am sure BUMBLE BEE had their part in it, by providing false product advertised. However the bottom line ends with CVS, who their vendors are, and their relationships should be so solid, that even when an unfortunate mistake like this occurs, they issue a statement in the next 'AD', explaining the error, and apologize for it.

It would be nice for them to do something about this. This has not been my first bad encounter w/ management at this location. I called the Regional Mgr to make a complaint about service I received from their pharmacy. I was thankful that it did not take long for this employee to no longer be working there. Management was angry with me, and some didn't mind saying so.

I must say, there are two other very good managers there, who have gone above and beyond to satisfy my needs, and accommodate me as a good customer service individual should. They do need more air time for their good...

CVS Cashier Follows Violent Criminal to Ensure Police Catch Him
By -

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- I went to CVS last week and while on line to buy smokes and soda another customer apparently drunk was mouthing off to everyone around him - he put his face in mine screaming how he had served his country and what had I done? He paid for his merchandise - a single wrapped cigar style cigarette - and put a dollar and a bunch of change on the counter. He said to the cashier "This is for my tab" - and I tried to disarm him with humor - "they don't make tab anymore only diet coke" and - everyone's a critic - he made a fist and hit me. I didn't fall to the ground nor did he make me bleed -- he was too drunk to cause me extensive permanent harm but sure it hurt.

CVS cashiers called the police and cashier William ** at store at 6150 N Broadway in Chicago followed the punching punchy guy and his girlfriend out of the store and down the street to ensure that he could tell the Chicago Police which way he was going. Thanks to William ** they arrested him and he spent hours in jail being charged with battery and I will face him in court and hopefully watch him be charged guilty with criminal battery. Thanks to William **. Otherwise the police would not have found him before he got on a train (the direction he was heading in). I consider Mr. ** a hero and CVS should absolutely reward him for that.

I am a retired lawyer and internet writer so to those with the comment that Mr. ** could end up fired by CVS (1) No he won't because I was instructed by a friend's relative who works for CVS corporate to file this report as he should be lauded and (2) I am taking this to the local stations that cover this sort of human interest story to ensure a spotlight on CVS so they do treat Mr. ** with the heroic respect he deserves.

Racist and Rude Cashier
By -

FALLS CHURCH, VIRGINIA -- On several occasions my family and I have been treated very rudely by a cashier at this CVS I believe based solely on our race. I am a middle aged African American male. Whenever I go to the counter, she ignores me for as long as possible, talking on the phone, pretending to shelve items, and on several occasions even leaving the counter entirely, leaving me standing there without explanation for around five to ten minutes.

The other day I was standing in line, she served three white customers in front of me, then when it was my turn, she left the counter without explanation. I stood there waiting for ten minutes, finally another white customer got in line behind me, and within seconds she returned. When she returned she went to a different cash register, and said to the white man in line behind me "I can help you over here sir." I didn't want to embarrass the man by asserting my position in line ahead of him, so allowed him to be checked out first.

When it came to my turn the woman again walked away leaving me standing there. When I called after her, she shouted at me "I WILL BE WITH YOU IN A MINUTE SIR." She never returned though, and I eventually got tired of standing there and left my items on the counter and walked out.

Speaking to my wife and children, I was surprised to hear they had all had similar experiences with this clerk in the past. In fact, my daughters informed me they do not even shop at this CVS anymore because of how uncomfortable this clerk makes them feel with her very rude racially charged behavior. I have not complained to the manager because I have seen the manager and the clerk together and they are very buddy buddy, and I am certain my complaints would go ignored and just lead to further embarrassment for myself.

I complained to the CVS website, but have as yet not received any reply. I will not reveal any information that might violate the terms of this website, but as a warning to other non-white customers considering shopping at this CVS, the clerk in question has the first name "Donna" and the cashier number **. BE WARNED!

Rude Clerk
By -

TALLAHASSEE, FL, FLORIDA -- This is to inform you of the behavior of your clerk. First, let me say, I LOVE CVS stores. I look forward to my Weekly Ads each Sunday and this is my store of choice which I shop at every single week. Store #710 on 1708 N. Monroe St. Tallahassee, Fl. Occasionally, I might stop at one of the others. I have been going to this particular CVS since the beginning I believe. Now! Did I say “I Love CVS stores and this store so happen to be my FAVORITE STORE”!

Today, I experience plan rudeness from one of your clerks name **. I made my purchase and it require some change. I knew I had change in a smaller purse but it was in a tiny purse so I had to sort of pour the change out on the counter to get it right and I proceeded to count it out to him. Well, I sense a hesitate from him to pick the money up from the counter that I had counted out.

Finally, he picked it up and when he finish ringing me up - as I gathered my bag - I hand my hand out to take my receipt and he rudely put it aside on the counter and refused to hand it to me in my hand even with my hand stretched out in front of his face. This little boy almost caused me to snapped - behaving like this first to a customer and secondly to a senior citizen.

I loudly asked him in the store in front of customers in the line – why was he being ugly? He just stared at me as to say Um un – whatever! I asked him his name and told him not to ever treat me in that fashion again. I told him - he saw how I was trying to get the change from my tiny purse as I counted the change out to him - so why was he being rude and ugly. I was through with this as I walked out the door. But the more I thought about it- the madder I got – how he just disrespected me and refused to hand me my receipt with my hand out. I was not going to mention it - but I am just getting madder and madder - WOW!!

I asked him why did he do that - he just stared at me as to say - CAUSE. He did not apologize and was just plan ugly. Why kind of people does CVS hire now. Because I know a lot of people with families and children to feed will take any type job to survive. This boy might want to let someone else have this job if he is unhappy.

Bad Customer Service at CVS Bedford, MA
By -

BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS -- CVS in Bedford, MA is a small branch that serves our town as well as neighboring ones. I've been going there for years and always been pleased, until my recent visit there which was a very unpleasant experience. The reason for my last visit at CVS was to clarify a few things on my receipt from my purchase the previous night. I brought the receipt with me, as well as two items I purchased and needed to return.

There were only two active registers. I waited in line and approached the register when it was my turn. The person at the register (who happened to be Andrea, the manager in charge) was impatient and rude. She had no interest in helping me whatsoever. I offered to quickly go to the shelf myself and bring the products in question to her so she could scan them and see how much they should ring. I ran, grabbed the item and came back to the register. When I got back the counter was already filled with another customer's purchase. I politely asked to move it as I was not done but Andrea ignored my request. I removed the basket with everything in it and placed it aside.

Later on, as Andrea was processing my return with a stern face, she said all of a sudden: “you do realize that there are 6 people behind you, right?”. I was speechless. I didn't know what to say. How humiliating! I did not go to CVS to waste neither her time nor mine! I need to stress that my entire time at the register was only 5 or 6 minutes. Needless to say, I felt extremely embarrassed in front of all the other people there. I work in retail myself so I know first-hand what customer service means and what it involves. What I experienced in my recent visit to the CVS was customer dis-service.
