Beware: Ebay Takes Fees From Seller When Buyer Doesn't Pay

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA -- I sold an item on eBay auction. The buyer didn't pay me but asked me to cancel the transaction because she didn't read the item description carefully. It's annoying but understandable. I re-listed the item on eBay for auction - the second buyer didn't pay AND didn't contact me. All emails from me were ignored. This buyer had a (3) next to his name at the time.

The buyers have their money however, eBay TOOK money from my account for their fees even though the buyer didn't pay me. I am left feeling cheated by eBay and their methods of collecting money from the seller WHEN NO MONEY WAS RECEIVED FROM THE BUYER. Seems to me, when someone bids on an item, the money should Be immediately taken from their account and given to the seller before eBay takes their fees. What's up eBay?

The customer service people instructed me to complete 6 steps to open an unpaid item case. After 4-7 days I am supposed to manually close the account and eBay will supposedly reimburse me. Guess how much of my personal time this nonsense has taken?

The customer service people talk in circles. No one will tell me how many times a buyer can make "fraudulent" purchase before being suspended. No one will send me a copy of the notice sent to the buyer requesting my payment (maybe because eBay never contacted the buyer?). The second buyer received 3 additional feedback scores in the past week AFTER not paying me or even returning my emails requesting payment. How is this person permitted to continue to buy and sell without settling an unpaid item case?? He now has a (6) next to his name all while ignoring my request for payment or at least an explanation.

What happens to those sellers who don't notice eBay TOOK fees from their accounts even though the buyer never paid? Seems like a great way for eBay to take money from people. If you're not paying attention they take money from you and the only way to get it back is to go through multiple steps. Does this seem right to anyone? Suggestion to eBay: Hire and train qualified customer service people to treat your buyers and sellers with respect and not act like ROBOTS who read from a script. Refrain from taking your fees from your sellers UNTIL the buyer pays your sellers AND offer concessions to your sellers when your buyers act like fools.

Ebay Seller Account Restricted After 15 yrs., 250K in Stock, What Do I Do???

CALIFORNIA -- I have built a business selling surplus on eBay over the past 12 years, and now have 3 warehouses and 250K of stock in specialized machinery. I returned from vacation yesterday and found an email from eBay saying that all 400+ of my listings had been cancelled and that I was prohibited from selling on eBay indefinitely??? NO rhyme or reason given.

Foolishly, I called their Customer No-service, waited on hold for 10 minutes and some oriental person who could have cared less finally came on and told me that one of my seller requirements (???) was 135 instead of 100 (of what, I do not know and she could not tell me). I asked what I had to do to be reinstated and she mumbled around about seller requirements for 5 minutes until I finally asked (again) if she could tell me 'how to be reinstated'. She had to transfer me for that...

I waited on hold another 25 minutes and another oriental answered and began to tell me that I had been restricted indefinitely, until I told her that I had been through all that and just needed to know what had to be done for reinstatement. She said that it was indefinite and that I could not ever sell on eBay again. I asked "never again, never in the future?" and she said yes, never. They both could speak what I would judge to be 50% English.

So I'm sitting here with all this inventory that is only marketable nationwide (no one within 50 miles would even know what 90% of it is). Three warehouses full and overnight I'm out of business. This after I have been with them over 15 yrs., spending $1,000-1,500 per month in fees with them, not counting the PayPal, and shipping ripoffs, for the past few years. At this point I am so numb that I can't even tell my family. eBay does not even have people on the phone who can talk intelligently about THEIR business, and they DO NOT CARE!

Seller Sold Damaged Goods; Ebay Upheld the Sellers Side in a Case Filed

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA -- Found 6 dolls on eBay I wanted to buy. The seller, ** seller id: jbowl61. I was in contact with this seller and purchased 3 of the dolls for a total of $830 (includes shipping). Asked the seller if I could purchase the other three at the end of July. Seller agreed and send out the three I purchased. The 3 boxed dolls did come in a timely fashion and I went ahead and put them in storage waiting until my daughter could come and open them with me as one was a present for her... It would have been her choice.

In good faith... which was a huge mistake, I sent 6 positive comments to the seller. I decided not to get the remainder three dolls and asked the seller to resell the dolls. ** then sent me several emails calling me every name in the book and threatened me with negative results on Ebay. I tried very hard to be positive and said I apologize, but I think you can get the funds quicker if you were able to resell the dolls. More hate mail came from this seller.

44 days after getting the dolls my daughter was able to come into town and we opened the dolls and one of them the outfit was totally crushed and didn't match the description at all. The other two were heavily drag through the mud and extremely filthy. One of the filthy dolls actually smelled like mold and mildew. I contacted the seller who refused to reply or make things correct.

I filed a complaint with Ebay who only viewed the case for less than 5 hours and replied they were siding with the seller... I filed an appeal and Ebay didn't even have the decency to let me know the case had been denied again. I had to go back into eBay and check the status myself just to find it had been denied again... stating buyers remorse.

This is not buyer's remorse as I had every intention of purchasing the dolls. I did purchase but I was not told of the condition they were in... If so, I would have had a choice to make and either purchase or find something else. I called the resolution center and they too sided with the seller. So, now I am filing a complaint here and will follow up with a lawsuit to both eBay and **. Be very careful whom you purchase from at Ebay. It amazes me how they can allow sellers to continue to sell trash like this. And what tops it off, is they didn't even see the proof or even ask for it before they made their decision. TWICE.

Dangerous, fire causing item. I left feedback and Ebay removed it?
By -

This is the item 330656117998. I bought one of these and it came with a handwritten letter on how to make it work. It said to charge it 5-6 times. Commonly, when you buy an item, it works when you get it-not this. I followed the written instructions and charged the batteries for 5-6 hours [I did 5]. It remained dead. I contacted the seller and was told it may need multiple charges to start working. I noticed the unit and charger got "VERY HOT" and sent an Ebay message to the seller. He just said to keep recharging it. This went back and forth many days.

Finally, I charged it the 5th time for the full 6 hours and it burned up inside. I blew the fire out and breathed in some awful burn odor??? This seller had promised me, that if I continued to recharge it daily and it ended up not working, he would also cover my return shipping cost. So, I jumped his hoops for him. When I told the seller it burned, he was short with me. I told him, if it were me and I had endangered someone's home with a possible house fire [had I left it on the charger while away] I would be apologetic. He just got nasty and said I intentionally overcharged it. I put in a "Dispute". Ebay found in my favor.

I left him negative feedback and mentioned the danger of this unit overheating and causing a fire. When I got home tonight, my neg feedback had been removed by Ebay. I guess Ebay is willing to risk fire and death, to continue making $ off this seller's units? They are supposed to be "Refurbished" but all they have done is bypass the protective circuitry and cobbed in a 2nd charge port, that goes directly to the battery.

There is no SELLER protection, eBay always sides with BUYERS!
By -

I have been on eBay since 2006 with 100% positive feedback. Until recently I started selling things for someone, and with the way this person has asked me to ship them, a couple have broken in transit. One particular buyer sent me a message saying that his figure was broken. So I sent him a reply attempting to follow eBay policy (or so I thought) saying I would send him a refund if he would send the item back. So then he says, "If that is the best you can do it will reflect in your feedback." So this I thought was feedback extortion - one of eBay's "policies" saying that a buyer cannot threaten feedback if you don't do something a certain way.

So I sent him a message saying if you have nothing further to say then I will send your refund. Next thing I know, I have negative feedback which drops me down to 98.4% I tried opening a case on feedback extortion telling them what happened and they excused the buyer from the case. I then tried sending the buyer a feedback revision request and he refused.

So I called eBay and told them this situation to a woman who just said "uh huh, uh huh, uh huh" to everything I said and didn't listen, and she said "unfortunately we cannot take this feedback off." And basically sided with the buyer saying he didn't want to change the feedback because of mistrust, and kept trying to tell me stuff I could do now that I had already done (Hence the not listening part). eBay does NOTHING to help the sellers and ALWAYS sides with buyers in every case.

I finally sent the buyer's money back anyway and when he called eBay to get them to try to change the feedback, they told him that he shouldn't still be trying to help me and that he shouldn't feel bad about anything... REALLY eBay? They should be helping out the sellers because we are the ones who LIST the items for people to buy. Without the sellers they would be nothing. Amazon.com is the way to go. Avoid eBay at all costs!

Ebay Fee Direct Pay Returned Item 15.00
By -

A 1.25 seller fee was charged to my Ebay account. The Ebay account then (automatically) tried to charge a credit card at the Ebay site (not PayPal) which was at the time set to (none) by myself. When the machine couldn't charge a CC at Ebay, it defaulted, then charged me 15.00 - as if I had written a bad check. Keep in mind I do have a PayPal account with a CC on file, and that I have been using it for over a year. And, I have been paying all seller fees with that account - my account was/is in good standing up to this 1.25 charge point.

The error in Ebay's system, is that it should not charge you a 15.00 fee, before sending you an email, and letting you know: (You have no CC on file at Ebay. You are in danger of being charged 15.00) something like that and maybe two days to change a setting? And or pay the 1.25 using my PayPal account?

So I believe the system is set up in this way to default, and charge you (acting like a bad check). The solution - to save time on both sides of the counter, the system could easily send you a warning email, and give you a couple of days to pay the 1.25 fee (before it defaults). Also, regarding verified accounts: Bank fraud has two sides. If Ebay is hacked and your account numbers obtained, the thief can clean out your savings. Leaving you to battle with second party Ebay to get your savings back.

When you have a CC on file with PayPal, there are stop gaps in place, such as passwords that must be entered to get to your CC account. And… even if the CC has been gotten too, you have an excellent chance of disputing the charges.

Buyer Can't Leave Feedback for an Unpaid Item
By -

I sold a few things/items on Ebay. In my experience the Ebay feedback policies are very unfair to the seller. Ebay is protecting their buyers so much, which is understood, and I guess that's how Ebay earns their big fat ass money. I sold two different items and it happened to be bidded by two different international buyers that ended up not paying for the items. I have tried to send an e-mail to both of them asking to pay for the items and they did not reply to the e-mail at all. Also I sent an invoice and then I also heard nothing back.

I opened the cases to Ebay for unpaid items, and closed the case when I was supposed to. Then when I was trying to leave some feedback to the buyers then I got a flag warning from e-bay that the feedback has been disabled because the payments were not recorded. How stupid is that? If the payments were not recorded I should have been able to leave feedback, don't you think? This sick policy, makes me sick to my stomach! Oh boy, how Ebay really kisses their buyers' asses. Just let me tell you something your stinkin company will not survive without any sellers, so hahaha.

Honestly keep treating your sellers unfairly, then you will see many sellers leaving Ebay. Just like what I am about to do. I don't need to put my items on this kind of stupid company. So be aware to what I had experienced, it could happen to you. Isn't that so nice you cannot even leave feedback to the buyer that did not pay for your items? Yeah, that's what I thought too! I will close my account on Ebay just because of this experience. And will list my items in some others auction website. So, you can kiss my ass now, Ebay!

EBay is Unfair to Sellers
By -

The first of the year, a buyer purchased a fox fur coat from me. I had listed the coat with the purchase option (provided by eBay) of "NO RETURNS ACCEPTED". The buyer decided he did not want the coat and requested a return. Since I had designated "NO RETURNS ACCEPTED", I file for an eBay resolution that I was sure I would win. My understanding was if the item was significantly different than the ad was the only reason eBay would approve a return under the specified payment policy.

EBay stated that I had to accept the return; however, I could file an appeal. I went to the resolution page. Nowhere could I find a place to file an appeal. I then contacted eBay through customer service stating I wanted to file an appeal. They informed me I could not file an appeal until the item had been returned and the buyer had received their refund.

The buyer was supposed to have returned the item by January 27, 2011. It is now March 27, 2011 and I have still not received my coat. I have contacted eBay. They state I should contact the shipper and track the item. It is my opinion (which I stated to eBay) that the buyer should track the item.

To date, I have heard nothing regarding the return of my coat. However, I have received numerous emails from eBay giving me advice and requesting I pay them their fees which now total approximately $70.00. I had initially transferred the original fee amount of $68.00 to PayPal. Since there was a problem with refunding the buyer of my coat, PayPal had placed a hold on my account and adjusted my balance to zero.

I have received dozens of emails from eBay and have now reached the point of feeling I am being harassed. I do not plan to double-pay the fees and have requested payment for my coat from eBay ($1000). They do not address the issue of my lost coat. All I hear from them is that my account is suspended (I requested they terminate immediately in January 2011 when this entire situation began developing).

I am unable to get eBay or PayPal to address the situation, and am really tired of receiving their emails. I refuse to communicate with them any longer except to demand payment or return of my coat. I am truly sorry I ever became involved with eBay or PayPal. PayPal arbitrarily takes your money whenever they so desire. I will never deal with either eBay or PayPal again. My lesson has been learned!

E-Bay Delists Sellers but Leaves Their Products Up to Receive Bids
By -

2145 HAMILTON AVE., CALIFORNIA -- Ebay allowed a big seller to list a software item. I won an auction bidding on it and paid through PayPal. I got a receipt that my payment was sent through PayPal and a notice from PayPal that my item had been sent--only to an address I haven't lived at in 8 years.

The problem began with my login. I inadvertently used the login I used to use before Comcast, my ISP - bought Attbi in 2003. EBay never used to accept that login, but now they do. I had two eBay accounts but was unaware that the old account I used to have pre-2003 was still active. That account is also associated with a very old address that I no longer live at. However, all purchases I have made on eBay up to this point--and there have been many--have always been sent to the current address I have listed with them and the only address I have listed on PayPal.

I tried to file a claim, but eBay and PayPal both are covering their tracks by not acknowledging on either website the auction I won. So I don't have an auction number and can't even file a claim with either eBay or PayPal. Their agents, and I have called every agent and spoken with all their managers, are unable to be helpful. But I still paid $170.00 for the software item and I still do not have the item because it was sent to an address I haven't used for 8 years.

The eBay manager told me that I didn't get the auction acknowledged on my eBay account--either eBay account (the one that responds to the ID I have by now used for 8 years or the one I used before 2003)--because eBay had de-listed the seller of the software item for an infringement of eBay's rules. However, eBay still had the de-listed seller's software featured on their website and were taking bids on it.

People should know, then, that some of eBay's items that are receiving bids are for de-listed sellers, and a customer (bidder) never knows which. To be on the safe side, never pay for your items for about a week so you will have time to see if the seller you found on eBay has been de-listed or not. A week or more will give the eBay people time to update their website. That way, you won't be stuck like I am, having paid lots for an item through PayPal but not being able to file any claims or even track the item because eBay and PayPal do not acknowledge the transaction.

EBay Buyer Beware
By -

I turned to eBay as a last resort in finding a perfume that is discontinued, and as I thought there were several sellers who had this perfume. One seller, who goes by mtonyc, had exactly what I was looking for at a prices that was utterly too good to pass up. As I scrolled down this seller had posted they policy towards buyers. It stated in big red letters that if a buyer has zero or less than 10 feedback stars they would cancel the order unless buyer contacted mtonyc. Which is what I did.

I had to go through two steps to actually get to "contact buyer". When I clicked to do so up pops this notice saying the seller could not receive emails at "this time" and redirected me back to product information. I tried this about three times before email customer service of the difficulty. While eBay customer support gave me a notice that my request would take 1-3 days before I would hear from eBay, I actually got an email from them in less than a day informing me to call customer services with my complaint. Which I did.

The operator was pleasant and very reassuring that mtonyc's policy was not the policy of eBay, and that they would contact the seller to make sure what happened to me didn't happen again, and to give seller warning. I actually felt better about the situation and waited a few days to go back and try again to make a bid on the perfume. Only to find that nothing had actually happened and the seller continued to state they could not sell to buyers with zero to under 10 feedback stars. I STILL COULD NOT CONTACT THIS BUYER.

The conclusion that I have come to is, if you sell on eBay they will protect you. If you are a buyer or guest buyer you're SOL! And to top it off when I tried to cancel my eBay account, I was informed it would take 180 days to close my account to settle any outstanding payments. All I did was look at something I couldn't buy and sent on a wild goose chase. I personally will never try to use eBay again.
