Gouged BIGTIME

WASHINGTON -- After depositing well over $1,000 within a one week period and spending $585.00 for rent and another $150 for gas and groceries, I found my debit card all of a sudden was being "revoked" for overdrafts?? I immediately went to my local Key Bank branch only to learn that my account was a shocking -$20.00 overdrawn. I question the teller on this, only to learn that they had been holding every one of my paychecks until they cleared my employer's bank! This created over a $420.00 overdraft accumulation against my account over a 2 week period. Man! Did I EVER get ripped off!

They held my paycheck deposits longer than a 4 day period, claiming "the check had to clear before Key Bank would recognize it as a legitimate deposit". In the meantime, I was completely gouged for $420.00 in overdraft charges unjustly (my paychecks were in fact "legitimate") and I am looking at another bank to deal with. Key Bank stinks and are guilty of highway robbery!

KeyBank Closed My Account for No Legitimate Reason
By -

CLEVELAND, OHIO -- I opened an account on January 17, 2012. Two days later, the personal banker called and told me that she had to close my account because she said that I was on ChexSystems. So, I went to another bank local immediately after notification of my account closure with KeyBank to see if the same thing would happen. I found out that I was not on ChexSystems. I was able to open an account with another bank without any problems. My information was run and verified with both ChexSystems and Equifax at the time that I applied for the account.

Ultimately, I was clear with both agencies. It is odd that a bank would tell one this two days later. Besides KeyBank, every bank that I have ever used in the past has been able to verify me with ChexSystems at the time that I applied to open an account. I signed up for direct deposit on the date that I opened the account. Because KeyBank inconvenienced me by notifying me two days later that my account was closed, I had to wait an extra week to get paid. The lady who opened my account was not nice and isn't good at dealing with people, but rather arrogant and snobbish.

KeyBank is said to be the worst bank in Columbus, according to a recent survey. This explains why KeyBank doesn't have many customers and people don't keep accounts there long. Like my coworkers, I highly recommend that you stay away from KeyBank.

Thieves!

DENVER, COLORADO -- Started charging a $5.00 "maintenance" fee on my account because I was not using it enough. Charged me another $5.00 when I closed the account, but only informed me of that when it was too late to waive the fee. Essentially stole $10.00 from me for doing absolutely nothing and then justified it by saying other banks charge more. I don't care what other banks are doing if I am not their customer. If I could charge someone $5.00 every time I hit enter on the keyboard I would be rich by now. Rip off! Too bad they can't maintain good customer relations!

Not Everyone Is Equal When It Comes to Receiving the iPod Touch Through Key Bank
By -

CLEVELAND, OHIO -- I think that KeyBank has mishandled their whole iPod touch promotion. If you opened up a new checking account and complete certain requirements, you would get an iPod touch device from Apple in return. Nowhere in KeyBank's promotional materials does it state what generation (2nd, 3rd or 4th) of iPod touch you will receive.

When I got mine, a second generation 8 GB iPod touch (about two-three years out of date), I complained to KeyBank via the Better Business Bureau (after getting no response from them three times) that since the 3rd generation could be purchased when I signed up, that should be what I would receive as that would be a reasonable consumer expectation.

In my opinion, KeyBank declined to make things right. KeyBank's position was that they promised an iPod touch and that was what I received. The equivalent would be winning a car but receiving one that was 10 years old. KeyBank also said that they bought all the iPod touches at the beginning of the offer and therefore, it didn't matter when you qualified, that everyone would all get the same. That is not the case.

Unfortunately, today I found out that people who had signed up with this KeyBank promotion after me were receiving the new 4th generation iPod touches instead. Apparently, they ran out of the older models. I am not very happy with KeyBank about this. I think we all should have gotten screwed equally, smile. Or everyone who asks for an upgrade gets one.

Key Bank Removes on-Line Statements After Closing an Account
By -

CLEVELAND, OHIO -- Six weeks ago I tried to transfer money from KeyBank to a different (better) bank. It took them more than 3 weeks to give the bank my money. They removed all online information, but my calculator told me I had been short-changed by $25. They sent a check to me which I deposited in the new bank; then Key put a Stop Payment on the money. I still do not have the funds and I still cannot move them to a new investment because I want to move ALL the funds not partial (and pay extra fees).

So I closed out the Key checking account, also. I cannot see if they will charge me any new fees because they shut off the online statements when the account was closed. No money. No statements. No proof I had an account. Threats of fees to be charged. Excuses of why they made mistakes. I cannot believe the incompetence. I tried to speak with a supervisor but no one from Key would speak to me. I see My3cents has an email address - I will hang on to that for future reference. This nightmare is not yet over.

Why Is Anyone Defending Key Bank
By -

GRESHAM, OREGON -- KeyBank has been taking advantage of their customers for years now. I started banking with them over 20 years ago & the company has recently put the odds, to steal your money, in their favor. 1. Debits are entered before Deposits. This was not true when I first banked with them! 2. They charge $37 for every overdraft even if you are overdrawn by $1. They used to review the overdraft charges, but not anymore. The computer does it for them!

  1. If you deposit a $500 check or any amount over $100, they only credit your account with the first $100. Your electronic statement will say that you have $500 available but if you make a charge over $100 they charge you a $37 overdraft fee! 4. They also charge you if you use the telephone to check on your account balance. This can vary from $2 to $10 depending on how many times you call to check on YOUR money!

These are but a few of their unscrupulous (meaning: devoid of scruples; oblivious to or contemptuous of what is right or honorable) actions. And you thought KeyBank checking was free! What I can't believe, while reading the responses to people's complaints, are people defending these banking practices? Watch the news or pick up a newspaper and you will see several articles or newscast about the banking system and their unscrupulous practices to steal your money! Congress is actively investigating all of the banks. Wake Up People. Eventually, They Will Be Coming For You!

Overdraft Fees, Let's Go to Court!
By -

I have had more than one occasion where it appears I have enough money in my account to cover my charges and then find I get charged overdraft fees. Tomorrow I am going to the branch to get a copy of the terms and conditions of my account and details on when the most recent charges occurred. Even though I deposited money in my account to cover my charges, KeyBank is saying they also first post the debits and then the deposits. I know of no other bank who does this. It appears they are manipulating their system in order to charge more fees. I would like to take this to an attorney and present this to a judge. Has anyone else already done so?

Ridiculous Overdraft Fees
By -

FLORENCE, KENTUCKY -- My daughter turned 18 and opened her first checking account with KeyBank. What a mistake! They gave her no check register, so she relied on the web banking to tell her the balance (her mistake). She made a miscalculated by $1, and they charged her $38 twice, for one debit card transaction when it hit the account and when it actually posted.

Then, she took her balance on the web for fact, when a gas purchase had not yet posted. This overdrew her $8, and they charged her $228 in fees!!! This was over a holiday weekend, and she was not notified until Monday. The bank was closed that Saturday, but they still charged her $28 for both days that she didn't cover the overdraft. Talk about rape!!! How is this legal???? It's like 3500% interest for loaning her $8. Needless to say, we won't be banking with KeyBank much longer.

Rip Off, Cheats, Legal Loan Sharking

CLEVELAND, OHIO -- I have been charged over $1000 in charges within the last 30 days from KeyBank, and even though I sent them an e-mail back in Dec. to close this account. At that time I was told they cannot close the account until I pay all the fees. They pay things even though I did not authorize them. I do not have overdraft protection. If the money is not there refuse it. No, they pay it then charge me $38.00 for debits that are less than the $38.00. I thought this allowing them to debit items prior to try debit coming in, ie. debiting debits but still not crediting the funds, was supposed to be reviewed to make sure it was not hurting the average person.

Banks are making a fortune on this allowance and we are being charged outrageous amounts in fees. This is a time when people are being let go from their jobs and living paycheck to paycheck. Why is this being allowed. I recently lost my job and asked them to please stop this. I can't even afford food and being evicted from my apartment, barely hanging onto my car and their comment was pretty much, "Oh well"!!!!

Banks are out of hand and someone needs to take a good look at this. They want us to bail them out! Who is helping to bail us out because I am not feeling the love from any of these large corporations that have their hands out.

Erroneous/Excessive Overdraft Fees
By -

I have had money stolen from KeyBank for the last time! I deposited a check for over 1200$ in my account on Friday. I understand the difference between an available balance and a current balance...my available balance (as they only allow 100$ of your money to be avail. for 24 hours) was about 130$. From that point I made 3 small purchases, totaling less than 50.00. Everything in my account was great, until four days later when I noticed they posted a 100.00 credit card payment. The payment was posted on Tuesday, and dated for Friday.

I called and they told me that this charge was always there and authorized, so my actual available balance was about 30 dollars, even though the ATM and online banking told me otherwise. I asked them why I was not able to see that reflected on ANY information that they provide in regards to available balance. They had no answer for that. They also refused to take of the 105.00 in overdraft fees.

Mind you, I have over 1200 in my account when the fees were posted. KeyBank has SOUR business practices, and they blatantly steal from their member, with no remorse or regard. I am in the process of cancelling all of my checking and savings account with them. DO NOT USE THIS BANK!!!
