Should be Illegal Overdraft Fees

ANYTOWN CHAIN BANK, NEW YORK -- First, members should stop commenting that people with these complaints against Key Bank (and other banks, I would imagine) should just "learn how to balance their checkbook!" I just went through an "overdraft" saga with Key Bank that cost me $96 and several hours on the phone. Like other people posting here have noted, I am meticulous about my bank balance and have never been charged an overdraft fee, nor bounced a check, in my entire life.

Stop assuming people are too stupid to know when they have been mistreated and robbed by their own bank. This website is for people to reflect on their experiences and warn others against and/or recommend services, not to make assumptions about people's experiences and write disparaging remarks.

Key's own customer service rep referred to what happened to me as "spiraling" overdraft fees. All of this happened while I had plenty of money in my account to cover my debits and checks. On top of all that, in my attempts to resolve the issue for which I give myself a lot of credit for staying calm and civil. I was treated with what seemed like contempt by every single representative I spoke with. Needless to say I have closed my account, but I am out almost 100 dollars for no reason. It makes me ill.

"Fee" Checking Account
By -

CLEVELAND, OHIO -- Key Bank has molested my wallet this year. After numerous repeating overdraft charges - which they did nothing to earn - they took almost $600-$800 bucks and kept adding to it when I couldn't afford to pay it. And I think they knew the more they added the less I could afford it. So, they wanted to give it to me up the wazoo for life. Now I only kept the account for emergencies and they let McAfee process a payment to it - that I didn't know about. So now they're trying to tell me they're slapping those same old fees on me every five days... I'm getting beyond angry now.

A Bunch of Thieves. Horrible Service.

Over $300 in fees for overdrafting $30. I signed up for overdraft protection (which was a rip-off at $50) when I first opened my account. When I asked them about why my account overdrafted, they said I never activated my overdraft protection, even though the account showed up in my online banking. No one told me I had to activate the protection. And since I saw it online, I figured I had it. No mercy was shown. They refunded two fees, but still charged me over $300 for the debit card swipes. Criminal IMO. Stay away from Key.

They Only Lie When Their Lips Move

I have had to use KeyBank as my daughter uses it in Cleveland at college. I have been a happy customer at a number of banks and credit unions for 40 years. KeyBank stands alone as duplicitous, confusing, and argumentative at every turn. They lied about holding my money while it "cleared". One official says the opposite of another and they are always trying to play "gotcha". Stay away from these people.

Banking nightmare

This is one of the most ruthless, unprofessional companies I have ever dealt with. I've been a customer for almost 5 years and I can't seem to ever get a hold of anyone at customer service that has the ability to make changes. I've had a few miscommunication mistakes that incurred various finance charges. When I call to explain, I need to talk to 3 or 4 people and none of them can do anything or direct me to a supervisor. Terrible bank. I will never deal with them again.
