Cracked Dryer Drum

In Nov. 2003 I purchased an LG front-load high efficiency clothes washer & electric dryer set (washer model # WM1832CW / dryer model # DLE2532W). In Dec. 2009 the stainless steel dryer drum cracked along the weld seam of the drum, near the door of the dryer. The crack is 2"-3" long and very sharp. I believe it is a defect in manufacturing or poor quality construction. the dryer has only been used for regular household laundry and should not have cracked under these conditions. My dryer is no longer under warranty (1 year) and I am seriously debating the cost/value of having it repaired vs. purchasing a new dryer. I have since read online of other owners of the same model dryer complaining that their dryer drum cracked also. I will not be purchasing LG again.

IOWA CITY, IOWA -- On Wednesday, Feb 27, I spent $1,844.00 on a brand new LG washer and dryer. We live in a small home, so I wanted it side vented. Delivery was set for Sat. Mar. 1. On Friday the store called me to tell me the men who delivered would not be able to side vent my dryer because you need a special part. First, they do not have the part, and second, their men are not licensed to install this part. Why didn't the store tell me this when I ordered it? I would have to go for probably a week with no dryer until they could get this piece installed. So, they were going to back vent it. Now it sticks out so far, it blocks my back door. Hopefully it will take it back far enough with the side vent to unblock my door.
Now for the washer. I had always heard about how front load washers spun clothes so dry that the dryer was done when the washer was done with the next load. Well it should. It takes an hour to do a load in the washer. Then the installers must have turned the hoses around. All I have is hot water. He will change these around when the part for the dryer comes. Hopefully next Saturday. I hate washing my clothes in hot water.

I was so excited waiting for the washer and dryer. I was looking forward to doing laundry. Now I am so disappointed and depressed, and ANGRY I want the store to come and take them back and get a top loader. It used to take me 4-5 hours to do laundry for the two of us. I thought it would take two hours last night, so I started laundry at 5:15. I had done washed two loads, cottons, and towels, and a load of "normal" clothes. Each cycle took 545-56 minutes. I quit after the second load because it realized it would take me until midnightto finish.

They are supposed to be cheaper to run, but not time efficient. If I do my normal 5 loads of laundry each week, it will now take me closer to 6 hours. 5 loads at an hour each, plus the 45 minutes to dry the last washed load. Talk about a bubble buster. I won't buy another washer again until I know how long the cycles are. I E Mailed Whirlpool last night to ask about the Cabrio. We'll see if they respond.

Wow! You must really be upset, 'cause you can tell you typed that really fast! First, slow down and take a deep breath and try to relax a little.
I can understand that you would be upset at what has happened, but it sounds more like you are upset with the service you got (inadequate and inadept as it was), than with the items you've purchased.

I don't think it is unrealistic for the machines to take that long. I usually figure about an hour per load. I am pretty sure I have never had a washer go less than 35-40 minutes unless you put it on the very lightest (shortest) time setting, which isn't going to get your clothes very clean.

It's too bad you had to put up with the crappy instalation service and issues, though. I would encourage you to be sure to make your opinion known, to the store manager from which you purchased these machines, about the shoddy and unorganized service you received.

Amazing how many complaints are posted about these $1000 washers and dryers. For that kind of money one would think that they'd work without problems for years. Glad I still use my old washboard :-)

a simple solution is to use the opposite settings. if the cold setting is hot, then logic tells me the hot setting will be cold. better yet, slide out the machine and switch the hoses.

front load washers are not the smallest items, they are huge.

as far as your side venting, did you actually tell the person who charged your items you needed the "side vent kit"?

The settings don't work that way because your rinse is always going to be cold. But the water will not be cold for your rinse if the hoses are hooked up wrong. Your rinse will always be Hot.

I have an LG washer/dryer set. HE washers do take longer. Mine has a quick wash setting that takes 30 minutes. I LOVE the set. It gets my clothing really clean and saves a lot of water in the process. Plus I can fit a ton of things in them, at least 25% more than my last set.

I owe LG an apology. It is not the washer and dryer, it is Best Buy's customer service. The washer and dryer work very well. I am happy with them. I will be even happier when the side vent is finally installed. At this point, 45 days after I asked for the part. Still waiting, mind you. It is set up for Apr. 17.

1st thing is your sales person did a poor job educating you on the front load machines,if you understand what the benifets are and knowing that you don't set it the same way you did your top loader. as for the side vent did you tell them that at the time you ordered it. and for two people one week to wait isn't unreasonable its not a fridge your clothes can fill the basket. save complaning for a problem not a inconvienence people can be such cry babies I deal with customers everyday and you get more with honey than you do barking orders and or threats

I'll write slow just for you pleasedaspunch. Front Loader Washer's and Dryer's suck. BTW- the 30 min setting doesn't clean well at all, and the washer always needs to be cleaned because it smells, if you don't clean it. It supposed to save energy too. Lol. Give me a break! I always wash my clothes twice before drying them, so my clothes will smell clean. So, how's that for energy efficiency? So, again the washer and dryer suck, and I would not recommend to no one.

This makes me sad:( I just purchased this set and was so excited to finally have them delivered and be able to wash clothes in my new house. When the installers seems completely clueless on how to do their job. I had to install the dryer myself:( no easy task for a plump chick and limited space for the dryer. Now it sticks out so far. I cannot use the garage entrace:( I measured the space they should have fit just fine. The washer fits fine. But the dryer is a whole new story. Now I read reviews like this. I blame the installers. ITs their job. They should know to cut the dryer vent leading outside back to 2in. (No, I done this with scissors)very simple. Installers reply to me was he didn't have the right tool (metal shears)...yeah OK. Its just been a mess for this new home buyer. I just hope I don't regreat spending 2,300 on this washer and dryer with pedistals:(

Cracked dryer drum

We have had this dryer for a little over 3 years. It has always had trouble drying clothes on sensor dry. The clothes are always damp when the cycle ends, so we have just been drying them on timed dry which works fine. A few months ago we started hearing this bumping noise especially with a heavier load such as towels or jeans. The sound has progressively gotten worse and more frequent and now does it even empty. We do about 10-12 moderate sized loads a week which I would estimate as average for a family of 4. The warranty is only 1 year even for defective materials/workmanship which is very convenient for LG. Our local appliance repairman was familiar with the problem and had seen it several times with this model. I have also has some electronics issues with my LG Tromm steam washer so I can say I am through with LG. Life is not good for me with LG!

I have the same dryer. It could be two things. The drum rollers are made from silicon and they develop flat spots when they cool down when not spinning. The drum may split at the welded seam and 'thump' as the split seam travels over the rollers. I've had to replace the drum TWICE due to a split seam on the drum. Unacceptable LG !! Look at the seam inside the drum and follow it front to back to see if it's coming apart.

LG... High hopes and big disappointments

It's really sad. I had so much high hopes for an American based (supposedly. actually, they get their parts and boards for products from overseas) company.

My family went all out on LG. We purchased a 46 inch LCD TV which has cable card issues from day one. A 42 inch LCD TV which completely failed and was out for over 4 months before LG stepped in when the extended warranty company failed to honor it's agreement for service and after sending A local TV company out 5 times to attempt repair, replacing every board in the set. LG came out, fixed the 42 inch and we were back in service... now it's doing some weird ghosting shivering thing.

We also purchased the top of the line LG Washer and Dryer combo in cherry red paying top dollar.
After a year of owning these, now every time you do a load of laundry, the smell of mold and mildew overpowers everyone in the house. Horrible.

We purchased LG Cell Phones and now live with dropped calls and limited battery life, not to mention the phones are not very rugged. My particular model has a built in camera which is useless as it won't save the image after you take a picture.

Well, the bottom line is, LG is absolutely NO BETTER than anyone else out there and in fact I would say they are among the bottom as far as quality. Some people will probably have to see this for theirselves to really appreciate what I am saying here, hopefully you will take the word of countless people complaning about LG's products and service and avoid the nightmare we endure every day because we can't just go out and replace everything in our home.

Look at the BBB complaints on this company. I've filed complaints myself. Remember that with the BBB you are not getting the full story.
the BBB is very quick to close cases for whatever reason they can find. Just because a case is closed does not mean the customer was satisfied. And, the vast majority of people do not even think to go to the BBB. Probably because it is a waste of time for the most part. That will not get you anywhere. They will NOT care if one or two people or for that matter, 500 people despise them, they still have their hands in millions of places across several product lines and losing even 1,000 customers won't make a dent in their collective wallets. In other words, they are too big to care about a couple thousand customers.

Best of luck to anyone who owns anything with LG on the product and a very big warning to anyone considering a purchase!!! People don't take the time to create an account and write a review because they have extra time on their hands.

Where did you get the idea that LG is an American company? They are and always have been a Korean company. I can't really speak for or against their TVs or phones but the major appliances are quite reliable.

The smell in the washer is a result of using too much soap. Because front loaders use so little water if too much soap is used there will be a dirty soap residue left inside after the washer is done.

There is a product called Affresh that has gotten high reviews.

You will probably need to replace the door bellow now as the smell tends to permiate the rubber.

Well, if they are a Korean company, my sales person on the tvs, which started all of this, completely mislead me with bogus brochures and verbal accolades about the company.
I've heard many different explainations for the smell in the washing machines, that was one of them.
I'm obviously not the only one with bad issues with LG products and from what I've seen, my determination is that you and those like you who have somehow gotten your product from the 'good batch' just don't have a clue as to what I, and people like me who have several items of LG, not just one, have nothing better than a pile of lemons.
I hope you have continued success with your product, but as for me, 5 out of 5 have been duds. LG must be saving the 'good stuff' for your market area or something. Personally, I've been bitten too many times with absolute frequency. So, I'll never buy another LG item ever. You may choose to roll the die as many times as you like.

for the smell.... you might want to check into running some cleaners through the system. perhaps a mild bleach?

though obviously be careful and run it a couple of times afterwards so you don't bleach your clothes by accident.

OP-I'd hazard a guess that someone with the username "qualityappliance" may in fact, work with appliances. I'd listen to what he has to say regarding the smell.
As far as the electronics go, I've only had a cell phone from LG and it was a piece of junk. When I bought my TV I looked at them and was not impressed. And yes, LG is in fact a Korean company.

Bleach is OK too and personally I recommend to some people to use pool chlorine as it is much stronger than household bleach.

I did have a top of the line LG phone for 29 days and traded it back in just inside the 30 day return period for an I phone because the LG was a piece of junk.

Maybe yes, maybe no, but it wouldn't hurt to be on the safe side. If you put it in the tub and start a regular wash cycle it will already do 4 complete rinses on its own.

After reading quality's comments, I ran and extra long cycle with extra hot settings just to make sure it had a good rinse... so not to have soap residue. I have not noticed the smell as much so I'm hoping with running that after everyother wash, we may get a handle on it. I have noticed that the last load did not stink as much. We have never filled the soap compartment up past the fill line. And if we have to run this extra cycle I don't think we will be seeing any savings in the water usage not to mention it consumes electricity with each cycle ran as well. We are making a habit of using less soap as well.
If this works, I'll post to let you know. I figure we will give it a month or so to see if our new 'habits' make a significant difference. Either way, LG is still in the dog house in our family but I do thank you for the insight.

LG Washer And Dryer Suck

BAYTWON, TEXAS -- I recently purchased an LG washer and dryer from Home Depot. They are front load all the bells and whistles. I paid about 1700.00 For the set. I bought these to go in my new home we just purchased. I had Home Depot deliver and an LG tech hooked up the washer and dryer. They worked good for about 2 weeks and now the dryer does not work at all it blows cold air and does not heat. I called LG to see if someone would come out and look at the dryer and they told me they were going to charge me 75.00 Just to come out and look at the dryer and if it was hooked up wrong they would charge me for that too. I have only had the dryer now for 3 weeks. I was hung up on they told me that they don't cover everything that happens to the dryer and that they couldn't get someone out to me for 1 week. At that point I called Home Depot. They were very helpful. Lg still will not fix my dryer and so I have had to had Home Depot come and pick up the other machines and I will be buying a different brand. If LG is this hard when you have had their product less than a month I can imagine what it would be like if something happened 6 months from now. I was treated so poorly by LG their customer service people were rude and did not want to help make the problem any better. I think I will be a lot happier with a different brand because I don't feel like I was treated like the way a customer should be. Home depot has really been great in this whole process without their help I would be stuck with LG and be very unhappy. I would not recommend LG for anyone Home Depot was telling me that they have had a lot of complaints about these dryers not heating so maybe its just poorly made, but certainly does not have a poor price.

What happened to the warranty? Was the LG repair guy an independent shop or an employee fo LG? Does customer care at LG know about all of this? You say you called LG but did you call the contracted repair dealer or the company?

LG is crap.I get calls daily to see if I service LG machines.I don't know anyone in the business that services those machines.Again if your buying an appliance go to an appliance store,not a hardware store.

I'm kind of thinking with super. How can a 3 week old product not be looked at under warranty? IF it is not the product, as in an incorrect installation, then yes the customer has to pay for the service call.

It should have at least a year warranty.Try resetting the circuit breaker in the breaker box,find the one marked dryer(30amp)flip it off,then on and check.If the heat element(I'm assuming its electric)isn't broken that will reset it.

I have good friends who swear by their LG washer and dryer, but Consumer Reports doesn't give them a very good rating, so I have never looked at purchasing them.

I love their cell phones too. I have the LG "The V" (VX9800).

Oh and I have the LG Front Load SteamWasher (Wild Cherry!) with the matching dryer. They cost me $2,500.00 after tax and delivery was added in but it was well worth it in my case.

They have already came and picked up the LG and I am buying a Maytag instead I was not going to deal with the. The dryer was gas and the breakers were checked and so was the gas line and all was working well, Home Depot thinks the heating unit went out on it.

Why you both are heading in wrong direction. Leave it. I had also bought LG product. I had problem too and faced worst LG after sales customer support. I may advice to all of you, Not to buy LG products at any cost.

I had the same problem with my dryer. I called LG and they were very friendly. They explained that the warranty is for 1 year for parts and labor. They also explained that they do not install the units that HD hires a third party and the warranty does not cover installs so if it was a install issue I would have to pay. So a service tech came out from a local service center and looked at it. It was the vent it was not the proper one. He was very nice and did not charge me. I replaced the vent and the unit is GREAT!

first off l.g does not install there units, why not we don't cover installation so there was no LG tech who performed the delivery Home Depot uses ge for the installation sub-contractor ,second if the servicer was going to charge u and he was from LG is because if there is no defect with the unit and they determine it has to do with inproper installaion the warranty does not cover this that is why with a unit this new it would most likely indicate a installation or hookup isse. work for l.g any questions on home appliances my email is q.and.a.4.LG@gmail.com

My husband and I bought an LG front loading washer and dryer 3 years ago, and we've had nothing but problems. We paid $1500 for the pair at Home Depot, after rebates, etc., about $1200 over-priced for what we got. They had an independent company deliver them, and the company obviously hire people willing to do grunt work for minimum wage because they need the work, because they didn't know what they were doing. They plopped the machines into place and said "there you go" and left. My husband had to finish setting things up so we could use it. While he was doing that, he noticed a dent in the bottom of the back of the dryer. We should have called Home Depot to tell them and have them come and get it and get another one, but we had sold our other W&D and we needed them. We figured it wouldn't really affect how the machine worked, at the very least. The first thing that happened was the dryer would get stuck at 6 minutes and dry until you manually shut it off. One night it went all night long while we slept. I woke up the next morning and could hear the dryer still going, so I went down and saw it sitting at 6 minutes left. I opened the dryer, and the clothes were still damp!!! My husband did some research and found that the machine was not level, so he leveled it and after that, it worked fine....until recently. The gasket came loose and tore and we need to have it fixed. Good luck finding a service person to come and fix it! Most appliance service companies won't service LGs because LGs are a pain in the a** to deal with and they also force dealers to buy all their parts only from them. This is costly to both the dealer and the consumer. We're going to have our dryer fixed, if we can find someone to fix it, and then we're going to sell them at a big loss and we're going to buy a Bosch, a Maytag or a Whirlpool, or something like that, but never again will we buy anything made by LG. EVER!! Once burned.....

LG Sucks Big Time with Service and Parts

MISSISSAUGA ONTARIO -- Makes LOUD noise due to defective rollers. Warranty expired and tried taking it apart myself-no problem. However the LG parts department will NOT sell me the parts...I need 4 Rollers. They are forcing me to hire their service people and to top it off I have to wait a full 7 days. Kenmore, Whirlpool and several others will sell me parts bu LG ( Life's Good) will NOT. They should change their name to LS ( Life's Sh*t). I will NEVER buy LG anything ever again!

Cracked Dryer Drum

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND -- My LG Dryer is not even 3 years old and now my dryer is cracked and I just don't understand why it did that. The piece that was cracked came off the other day so now I have a hole in the front of my dryer. I have to replace the drum. There is nothing wrong with the anything else except that it never really dried the clothes like it said it did but I have to keep it until I an afford another dryer but I will not get another LG.

This is a common problem with LG dryers. When I worked for HomeDepot.com it was one of the most reported complaints.

Poor Reliability From LG Dryers - Buyer Beware

BURLINGAME, CALIFORNIA -- We have an LG DLG3788W gas dryer. It has many different settings and controls and, when it works, effectively dries clothing. That said - sensor dry doesn't work with this brand.

They do have email, phone and live chat support and they are responsive.

But I recommend avoiding this brand. In the three years we have owned the dryer, it has broken 6 times. Broken as in - no heat and doesn't dry clothes. We have an extended warranty through GE, but they limit us to a repair vendor that will not overnight or expedite parts. That said, GE will do the expediting - so if you need parts, have them ordered through GE.

The ignition has died. Heating elements have failed. It's just not a quality machine. LG will only replace machines that fail beyond repair in the first 12 months. We had a smaller Kenmore dryer before and it worked for 7 years without a single service call. Our LG has stopped working for a total of 12 weeks out of 150 weeks available - an 8% failure rate. Not acceptable for a large household appliance. And spending my evenings and weekends in a laundromat when I own laundry appliances is beyond irritating.

LG needs to step up their quality and their service... or people should buy a Kenmore or a Maytag.

It may be that your complaint should be with the repair company that can't seem to get the problem under control. The most common cause of this model not heating is a tripped thermal cut-off above the burner assembly. Usually when it trips it is an indication that the vent is restricted or plugged, which would also account for the sensor cycle not working well. The other problem is that your extended warranty is through GE. A few years ago they chased off most of the better service companies by low-balling the rates and finding the cheapest people they coud find, including A&E, with no regard for knowledge or experience.

LG life's not good

PLEASANTON, CALIFORNIA -- After our old washer giving out we thought we would get a high efficiency washer. We bought a washer dryer combo, totaling around 3 thousand dollars. Everything worked great till I go to wash my cloths and the washing machine breaks. In less than one month of use the washer is broken.

After contacting LG for them to repair it we were being what "we" need to do to fix it. Ever phone call was "you need to do this" "you need to do that" Their customer service is nil. After a week of arguing with LG customer service they send a 3rd party tech out. The tech was about as dumb as a rock. He would plug the washer in and out of the power socket, then look at us and say "it's broken." It has been a week now, the third party tech people have come out to our house 3 times now. Both times with the wrong part. When we cal LG they lie to us saying the part for the machine is on it's way.

When the third party tech makes an appt. with us they don't show up. It's been almost two weeks now. I have called our local news in hopes that they could help us. I am ready to park the washer in front of Best Buy and leave it there. DO NOT BUY FROM LG, THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NIL.

Life is NOT good with LG

WARREN, OHIO -- Life is NOT good with an LG dryer. My husband and I purchased a front loader LG 4.0 ultra capacity dryer less than 2 years ago. Shortly after the the warranty expired the dryer quit working. It was down for 6 weeks after a missed diagnosis and incorrect parts sent by the manufacturer. Less than 6 months later, my dryer has quit AGAIN! Our repair man called LG and asked if they would be willing to replace the problem parts and was told we would have to purchase them a second time as LG parts are only warrantied for 3 months. So much for a standing behind your products, LG!

I am so disappointed. I wish I had kept my 15 year old Whirlpool dryer, that had NEVER had a repair.

It worked through the warranty period as did the parts. What do you expect LG to do? Sounds like you expect something for nothing.

What was the problem with the machine?
The most common problem with LG dryers is a tripped high limit thermostat caused by a clogged vent.
