LG Dishwasher & Refrigerator/Freezer Icemaker

SMYRNA, GEORGIA -- When remodeling a kitchen and laundry room, we selected LG appliances. Within 2 years the motor in the Dishwasher died. At the same time my mother was terminally ill in the hospital. I made the mistake of having the motor replaced, which ultimately cost almost as much as a new machine. The ice maker in the refrigerator/freezer works intermittently. Especially in the winter, we have to constantly turn it off and restart it to encourage it to continue making ice. No ice now for over 3 weeks as the usual techniques do not work. The washing machine is beginning to show a leak which I find ominous in light of my previous experience. I will never purchase LG again.

The washer damages clothes. I called LG and they sent two service techs out and said that the machine had a flaw and there was nothing that they could do to fix it. I called LG three times with this matter then took it up with Home Depot. They traded me out the washer with a front loader and would only give me 75% of the cost of the dryer if I wanted to trade it out so I would have a matching set. Home Depot had the machine picked up and now I am waiting for my front loader. And I have to pay $230.00 for a pedestal so I will not break my back loading and unloading clothes. The reason I bought the top loader in the first place.

I called LG, asked them what they were going to do about my damaged clothes. They said that there was nothing that they would do, 'cause I no longer had the machine, which Home Depot had already picked up. And LG would not give me even a discount on a pedestal for my damaged goods. I for sure will not be buying anymore LG goods. And will be buying my household stuff anywhere but Home Depot.

On March 30, 2009 I purchased an LG 24,500 BTU Air Conditioner from Home Depot. The warranty through LG was for five years. It worked great for the first year. The next year however the middle fan speed didn't work. We called LG and they said they would send someone to fix it, they never came. Then this year the high speed fan went out and we called LG again and we gave them the model and serial numbers and they said it wasn't that air conditioner.

Well long story short they told me that they couldn't find no one to fix it and they couldn't send me a new one so they told me to try Central air. I said no because we got the house quoted at 2,500.00. That's without tax. So I write this to tell people avoid LG air conditioners. Use Frigidaire like my son told me to do.

Really Poor Support

Two months ago I purchased a new LG Vortex Smartphone. It started having problems with the touchpad not working properly. I took it back to Verizon Wireless. All they did was remove and reinstall the battery and "upgrade" the software. The phone would not disconnect from a call. If I got someone's voicemail, the only way I could disconnect from the call was to shut the phone off.

After 2 months of screwing around with it, I asked to have it replaced. The Verizon store gave me a number to call. They said that a phone would be mailed to me. I was to activate it and mail the defective phone back. When I got it I discovered they sent a USED "CERTIFIED, LIKE NEW REPLACEMENT." I did not spend over $300.00 for a used phone.

Had I wanted a used phone, I would have bought one on eBay. A call to LG was less productive than Verizon. They explained they might "get back 200 phones, go through them to repair the defect, then certify them as LIKE NEW to use as warranty replacements. I will never purchase another LG product. BUYER BEWARE!

Customer Service

I received a new state of the art blu-ray player, wireless, 3D, HDD everything you could want in a new system. Hooked it up and enjoyed it one weekend, great pictures, features and fairly easy to set-up. The next weekend it would not hook up to internet features! I followed all of the instructions, rebooted it, rebooted the router, rebooted the modem etc, no luck. Assuming it was operator error, I followed up with company IT and with our ISP provider, again no luck.

Call to LG customer service center, needed to initialize and obtain software update, easy. After 3 tries and the system failed each time, I went to the website to check on options. Used flash to extract and download software, failed and received screen that stated hardware issue. Second call to customer service, needed proof of purchase in order to request warranty service. Third call to customer service, have proof of purchase, but technician believes that I hadn't taken all of the steps to avoid service, requested use of diskette. Back to internet to extract files and load on diskette, much slower than flash drive.

Failed, 4th call to customer service, was treated badly, as though the problem was my fault and I couldn't follow simple instructions. Blu-ray player now locked up in the software update mode and won't eject the diskette. So after all of this, I now have authority to send it in. Two weeks without the features I paid for so far, more to come!

Should not have been treated as though it was my fault when they were aware of some issues with software and expecting customer to jump through hoops to solve their electronic issues. Very unhappy camper. Life is not so great with LG.

Warranty

On March 11, 2011 I bought a brand new LG washer from Home depot. When the washer was delivered 6-days later (March 17), it was damaged and I did not take possession of it. LG/Home depot's delivery people took it back and brought a new replacement, 5-days after that (March 22). Needles to say this washer was also dented and I refuse to take it. Now the next new replacement LG washer is supposed to be delivered to me on March 26. Hopefully this one will not be damaged BUT.

I called Home Depot and LG regarding when the warranty will start and LG's policy is that the WARRANTY STARTS ON PURCHASE DATE AND NOT DELIVERY DATE! They say it is bad luck but that is their policy. So, if you buy an LG appliance and it takes a month or even two before you take possession of it, even if it's because they are out of stock, your warranty is based on the purchase date and NOT DELIVERY DATE. So they cheat you out of warranty.

BE AWARE OF THE LG WARRANTY start and end date! LG is known to tell you that when your LG product runs out of warranty on day 15, and your appliance breaks down on day 16, you are in for a nice expensive bill, and with my luck this will happen therefore warranty for the full period, after delivery, is important!

Non-Functional

We bought our LG range less than 3 years ago, along with all of our LG kitchen appliances. We have been extremely unhappy. The dishwasher doesn't work well and molds if you leave it closed too long after it's done running. The microwave cannot defrost something without leaving a frozen center with cooked edges. The most recent development, though, is that our oven/stove will not work at all. I only use it 3-4 times/week. But in less than 3 years it is broken.

We have been trying with LG for 4 weeks to get a part for it, and I was informed this morning that it would be another 2-3 weeks. I can't get anyone there to do anything. I understand that the warranty is over, however, I don't know anyone who spends almost $1000 on an appliance with the expectation that it will break within 3 years. The service person who was supposed to come fix it has been a giant jerk too. He is employed by LG, not outsourced. Never again will I buy LG products. I can't wait to be able to replace it all!!!

LG - Mini Split (Ductless) Heat Pump
By -

Being disabled my son had a LG mini-split heat pump system installed in our family room. After 4 months of satisfactory service, it began making noises. Then it would stop working when the outside temp reached 115F when you need it the most. Honestly it sounds like it is ready to blow up. Tried contacting LG about this issue but I am not a contractor and they won't talk to a "Consumer".

No one in Phoenix will service this unit under warranty. It's been a total nightmare. Best advice do NOT purchase a LG mini-split HVAC unit. Because of our problems with this unit I will never, ever, even slightly consider the purchase of another LG product as long as I live. As far as I am concerned this unit is 100% junk and should not be allowed to be imported from Korea!!!

Danger/Hazard

I purchased a solar floodlight from Lowe's then placed it in my yard. After a couple of day's I noticed it stopped working. On a closer review I saw that the battery had gotten hot and melted the battery cover and blew the battery and cover right off the unit. It was a good thing it wasn't place near dry tinder or it may have caused a fire. When I returned the light the Lowe's representative said I must have gotten my outdoor floodlight wet.

I said I live in a retirement community. The yards are either concrete or gravel rock. I have no need to water. Anyway it is an OUTDOOR LIGHT... My main concern is the light's danger. The manufacturer is out of China. The distributor is LG Sourcing, Inc. N. Wilkesboro, NC. Sold by Lowe's home improvement centers nationwide. Buy beware!

2005 LG front load washer WM2032HW, delivered to new built home, price about $1,000.00+ after delivery. Bearing in washer starts making noise early 2010, service technician finds crack in front outer tube that allows water to leak, that piece is $95.00 another $75.00 for bearings. Problem - they don't make the outer tub anymore. This unit came out on the market in 2004 and they discontinued making the tub for it. LG says "it will give me $165 towards a new one after I pack everything up and ship it to them".

Recap: A washing machine should last 10 - 15 years by today's standards not 5 years and discontinuing parts. (sounds like a scam here) Similar to buying a Honda Civic and they'll give you $1,000 towards a new one because they don't make the muffler for it anymore after 5 years after being made. Am I missing something? Please help me reconcile my thought process. Did my common sense cohabitate with my 15 year old sons! Damage Resulting = Three weeks of washing machine taken apart and left with a mess and uncertainty... disbelief. Contact me.
