Fine Jewelry Department Is Horrible
By -

ST. CHARLES, ILLINOIS -- I have been shopping at Meijer for the last few years and for the most part I've been satisfied. Until recently, I've taken notice that their jewelry department has really gone downhill. They no longer carry chains in sterling silver or in gold so a person can hang charms off of a necklace and they no longer carry anything in real gold at all. The gold over silver that they carry is all tarnished in a bluish, purple in color and looks really bad. The associate in the St. Charles, IL, a shorter woman with blonde hair, said to me that they had just changed manufacturers and suppliers and that they are trying to work out the kinks.

The old service representative used to have rings sized and returned in about 10 days and now they can only do a few rings in a few styles and they want me to wait anywhere from 8 to 10 weeks for the ring to come in my size. Why would I want to wait that long for a sterling silver ring with diamonds. I'm really disappointed with Meijer, the corporate office who doesn't seem to have any idea what I want to purchase as a customer.

I'm very happy to take my business elsewhere as, in a tough economy, I really don't need to be running around to different stores looking for what I need. Sorry Mr. Meijer, you started off as a nice family business but you haven't been treating the people that keep you open very nicely or you have really taken a step backward with the types of suppliers and corporate individuals that you have running your stores.

Meijer's Policies
By -

ST. CHARLES. IL, ILLINOIS -- On 3/26/10. I purchased a greeting card. I also gave the cashier my personal bags to bag the groceries. Included with the bags I had a cold bag to bag the refrigerated groceries. The cashier proceeded to bag my groceries putting some of the cold items in Meijer's plastic bags. She was literally throwing the items in the bags. However, what really surprised me was the fact she threw the greeting card first into one of my bags, it landed on the bottom of the bag and cold and wet items were put in next and of course ruined the greeting card. She continued to throw things into the bags.

By this time I was so frustrated I just wanted out of that store. I mentioned I had a coupon but she said she already totaled my groceries and couldn't take the coupon. Had she asked me for coupons, I may have gotten my coupon refund. She just hurried along w/ scanning and throwing in the bags. That was my last time at Meijer's. Also in spite of their advertising of lowering prices. Don't believe all they advertise. This order totaled over $100.00. Normal for us twice a week.

Beware of Coupon Codes
By -

I decided to attempt to order some furniture from Meijer.com, because the site was offering a promotion of $60 off $400. They did not list all the categories of exclusions on their website. I spent a couple of frustrating hours talking to customer service, who kept reading me what I could read myself on the website. Eventually, by trial and error, I found a combination of goods that worked.

My order went through with the $60 coupon, but silly me, I didn't take a screenshot at the time. By the time I got a receipt e-mailed to me, the $60 discount was gone. I called up Meijer and they said I had never entered the code. Excuse me? I am returning the entire order.

Meijer Is Great for Some Things

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- After seeing so many disapproving reviews here, I have to step up. There's a Meijer's somewhat out of my way, so I'm not there regularly. However I make a point to stop when I'm nearby because they have a great variety of produce at much better prices than other chains. Often a bread I like is on sale; there are interesting and hard to find imported food items - it can be a bit of an adventure.

Being the superstore it is, it also has a wide variety of household items, electronics and those weird needed Bits and Pieces often need to make them functional; there's a garden center selling plants and materials needed for gardening; I've even found inexpensive starter musical instruments for children there. It's a good addition to our community, and though checking out is a bit of a pain, I am grateful that the store is there. They may not be an end-all be-all, but they do a darned good job with many things.

False advertising and incompetent salesperson gave false information
By -

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN -- Ordered Lincoln logs on 9/29/09 and cancelled on 10/4/09. Called the salesperson and they explained that it was discontinued but assured me that since it's posted again on their website, it is available and I will receive the product if I order again. So, I ordered it again on 10/7/09 and it was cancelled again on 10/13/09. Spoke to salesperson again & they gave me the same answer.

Very upsetting as it wasted 2 weeks time and this is for a b-day present. Now, she may not receive her gift in time. Called the manager and was on hold a long time. She did not do anything to compensate. Only an apology for all the inconvenience and stress. This company has false advertising and incompetent salespersons especially since I called to make sure they had the product before ordering the 2nd time. I will never purchase anything from this site again. Pros: None

Never Enough Cashiers
By -

BOLINGBROOK, ILLINOIS -- We purposely shop on weekdays, and late mornings, so we can beat the rush. What's the point? Meijer never has more than one or two lanes open for checkout, besides their self-checkout aisles (which are another nightmare, altogether). Today we found one lane with four ladies in line, so we went to the second one, with one man in it. He had a problem, his power washer scanned at $119 instead of $69.

I don't blame him, THAT's a BIG difference. However, we had all our groceries unloaded, and had to wait another 10 minutes, while our food melted. Finally my husband complained, and they moved the man to customer service, and proceeded to check us out. When we left, with our $160 purchase, they were just finishing up with the overcharged customer. We would have been stuck there, another 10 minutes or so, had we not said anything. This kind of thing happens to us all the time at this store.

There are lots of cars in the parking lot, and the store has business, but no one mans the registers. Also, my husband had to wait his turn at the deli, while 4 employees bought their lunch fixings. Again, there was only one person helping at the deli counter, so he got mad, and almost walked away. We shop there twice a week, for major supplies, and a few more times for extras. Today, my husband swore he will drive the extra 2 miles to Jewel, instead, and refuses to go back to Meijer's.

Rude, Rude, Rude

OHIO -- The only reason I go to Meijer is for my prescriptions...now I'm even thinking about changing to another pharmacy. While waiting for my prescriptions I was looking around and one of the employees doing inventory was following me around, even though I was just browsing... And when I went to open a jar of pomade, and wanted to see what the texture was like, she told me 'Sir, you can't sample the product' then after I put it back she followed me around the store again.

And when I got to the pharmacy...the one prescription that I had wanted to get filled they wouldn't fill because, even though the bottle had another refill. The refill date had expired and they told me they'd have to call the doctor for a refill request. I mean...if they had to go to all the trouble for that, wouldn't they have changed the date on the bottle to inform me? I mean, it had one more refill on it. The other I got refilled at the same time!

Their cashiers (especially at U-Scan) are rude as hell, no one wants to wait on you and their prices aren't any better than any other store. In fact they are higher on most of their items than any other box store I go to. For my money, Meijer is a joke. They suck in everything they do. Higher standards my **.

Meijer Customers Beware!
By -

BLOOMINGDALE, ILLINOIS -- I had the most horrible shopping experience using the self-scan lane at Meijer in Bloomingdale, IL. I will never shop at this store again. After scanning my items, the screen told me to go and present my check to the cashier. The only problem was that there was no cashier to be found. I waited for 15 minutes before one finally noticed me but by then another customer had come to my check out lane and began scanning her items. She clicked finished, used her credit card and paid not just for her groceries but ours as well. It took another 45 minutes to get the Store Manager and another 15 minutes to clear the error.

The staff is rude, untrained and doing everyone else's job except their own. I really felt that "sorry" was not enough. The store did not offer me any kind of compensation or any money off for the inconvenience to both myself and the other person involved. If the cashier had been at her station, doing her job, this could have all be avoided. Meijer's customer service really stinks and their self-scan system is totally dysfunctional and useless. Customer's beware! Shop elsewhere!

Pet Dept.

OHIO -- I have 5 large dogs and drive 15 miles to Meijer to get Meijer dog food. For MONTHS the dog food would be unavailable. I was told it was sold out, not brought in from the back yet, unavailable till Tuesday! I think I heard it all! I ask what day they stock and they were out that day also. I spent much time, and gas trying to get a product.

Finally I took my dog food business elsewhere, as Meijers were incapable of obtaining their own product. Now they don't have raw hide chewies, and haven't for months. Empty shelves throughout the store is not uncommon. This store is common for this frustrating shopping experience. Everyone I know who shopped at Meijer, goes to Walmart across the street now as they at least have products on their shelves. I guess I am off to Walmart, as I am done trying to shop at Meijer!

Price Match Competitors Ad
By -

CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS -- Meijer states they will match ANY competitor's ad, they do not honor % off, buy 1 get 1 free, but what is not in their policy is that they do not honor any Black Friday ads. I went to Meijer and purchased 2 movies on sale all day @ Circuit City Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. The movies I price matched would have been $9.00 cheaper than their price.

The cashier had to ask customer service. After the customer service quit their personal conversation and their rude comments, about my request, they threw my ads in the trash, and the cashier said they can't price match Black Friday ads. I made them dig my ads out of the trash, left all my stuff at the checkout, walked out and price matched them at Wal-Mart. WalMart had no problem.
