Check Out Monitors
By -

KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN -- The Meijer store on Westnedge in Kalamazoo has monitors placed at each checkout lane. They have the volume so loud that you are just about unable to have a conversation. The sound is directional so that the cashier is not forced to hear it, just the customers standing in line. The monitors are on a swivel, so today I reached up and turned it away from me so that I could talk to my wife. The cashier called the assistant manager and he threatened to ban me from the store if I moved the monitor from its "required" direction.

I left my groceries on the conveyor and walked out. When I got to the parking lot, the person that was in line behind me had also walked out. If Meijer is so hard up for the advertising dollar, it might be a good idea to look elsewhere. Today's debacle cost them about $200 in sales. I know that will not be missed at the end of the day, but every little bit helps to tell them to quit forcing advertising down our throats!

Final straw

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN -- We are Meijer shoppers for 35 years, Muskegon Kalamazoo street, Lansing, North Muskegon. Something has changed and it is not good. The Cascade store is undergoing remodeling but remaining open. Our experience is we cannot find anything, but even more frustrating is to find the item shelf but it is empty. Six items on our shopping list had empty shelves and these we not in the remodeling sections. My credit card offers rewards of 5% for groceries and gas but not super stores. Add all of these up and we will need to change our habits and find a new store. What a shame. Thirty-five years of goodwill down the drain all because of sloppy management.

Obnoxious Advertising
By -

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN -- Shame on Meijer, they have struck a new, unimaginable low. While most companies try to make the shopping experience more pleasant to encourage customers to patronize their businesses, Meijer has created an environment that is so obnoxious that I will no longer shop there.

They have installed TV monitors on their checkout lanes that show obnoxious commercials non-stop at a blaring volume. As a customer, I am angry that I cannot avoid this experience because I am in the unfortunate position of waiting in line to make my purchase. There is nowhere to go. Even if I turn my back to the screen, I still cannot avoid the loud audio portion of the broadcast.

I am already a customer if I am in line and that should be enough. I feel this is an arrogant, greedy attempt on their part to cram their advertisers messages down my and every other consumer's throat. The most insidious aspect of this 'advertising campaign' is that children of all ages are being forced to consume this content. The only choice their parents and I have is to shop somewhere else. I certainly will.

Photo Dept.

BOWLING GREEN, OHIO -- I feel the photo department at Meijer in Bowling Green, OH has some customer service problems and doesn't have understanding when it comes to making reprints. First of all, the girl working on January 22, 2007, was rude when I asked about how to write out the numbers for negatives. She just stood there and acted like I was supposed to know what to do and what finish I wanted for my pictures. When I got home I noticed I was missing 2 sets of prints (4 photos total) and was charged too much. There was a sale going on reprints for $.29 and I was charged $.32. I have had problems there before and will not be returning to that department for photos anymore.

STERLING HEIGHTS, MICHIGAN -- I needed assistance at the self-service check out because there was no number on the tag and was not found on the list. The employee told us that it's self service with an attitude. 16 mile at Van Dyke Sterling Heights Michigan Meijer Grocery Store. I've been going to that store for over 20 years. Guess it's time to go to another store.

CALIFORNIA -- So, I go to check my balance on my debit card. Guess what? Somehow Meijer has stolen my whole check, plus others on Social Security here in CA. This is disgusting! How can they sleep at night knowing they took a disabled person's money in which they need to live on? I want this company shut down! This isn't fair. I hope you somehow suffer the way we are. Oh by the way! Enjoy that nice juicy steak on me J/A.

Horrible Possible Shopping Experience Ever...

LANSING, MICHIGAN -- Horrible possible shopping experience ever... All their employees seem to hate their job and are anything but nice or polite in any way. Also their employees can even be disrespectful and rude to the point that one abruptly yelled at me out of the blue in an obnoxious way, I even considered calling the cops and/or filing a lawsuit against the retailer.

ONLINE - GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN -- I ordered a sew machine for myself and daughter for Christmas. The machine for myself was never delivered somehow it was lost by Fed-X. I called and clearly stated to just refund my 231.95. That was about a week before Christmas. Today is 12/30/2011 still no refund. I called again, the gentleman stated that the request was never sent. He stated that he would put the request in. He was politely rude. This was my first time purchasing items from this company and I will never purchase anything from them again!!!

Working On Christmas Night
By -

EAST LANSING, MICHIGAN -- It's a shame that people have to cancel their holiday plans because Meijer's Department Store is making their employees work on Christmas night. Hubby and I had plans and now have to cancel because he is working on this night. I can imagine that the store director is not working, nor the people in headquarters in Grand Rapids are working, nor any other manager who is not working on overnights.

You people have ruin Christmas for so many - maybe you should work Christmas night and see what it is like.

Change in cost of prescriptions with no explanations, and no manager on duty to talk to about it. The clerk could not answer my questions.
