Bad Brake Service
By -

DEWITT, NEW YORK -- I went to Midas for new brakes. They told me I needed new pads and rotors on the front. So I paid and got new brakes. About a month later I was again having brake problems. Took my car back and they did the back brakes and rotors. Another month goes by and still more problems. They look at it and say it's the rotors AGAIN, they replaced these under warranty. OK, so another week goes by and more problems. They told me I needed all four calipers replaced. I did this, and after a week I still had serious issues.

I decided the heck with Midas and went to the Buick dealership. They said I needed new front brakes and rotors. They replaced them and no more issues!!! The tech told me that they get quite a few people that used places like Midas and have to redo the repairs Midas did. I paid over 1500 dollars at Midas, and another 400 at Buick. I learned my lesson, next time I will avoid Midas like the plague.

Ever Realize You've Suckered by Midas?
By -

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- I won't bore you with the typical venting, just the facts short and sweet. I brought my car into Midas, located at 1717 N Clybourn in Chicago, IL, to have my brake shoes looked at and replaced if needed. I called to see what the cost would be. About $79 per hour, for about an hours' work, since my brake shoes were under warranty from a previous Midas brake job.

The result was getting handily talked into getting a series of other "needed" things done, like drums getting cut ($40), replacing brake fluid ($60), replacing drum hardware ($30), on top of the standard drum brake package ($50). This made a $90 job cost $200 (how could I, usually a reasonable man, get suckered for $100 per brake drum? Dumb dumb dumb!). When I questioned the manager **, after the work was done, that I could have just gotten the shoes replaced! Boy, do I feel cheated and scammed.

Congrats Midas, you made another customer feel like a total fool. No wonder so many people hate you and your shops! On top of all this, now I hear a rub-rub-rub sound when driving, and then a squeak-squeak-squeak when applying the brakes, until the car stops. It sounds like my car telling me how dumb, dumb, dumb I was to trust in Midas. Never again will I go to Midas! Nor should anyone else. It would be fantastic if they were put out of business, I say!

Brake Pads

EAST LONGMEADOW, MASSACHUSETTS -- I went into Midas in East Longmeadow to have my car checked to see if I needed brakes and they said yes, pads only and I said, "OK go ahead and put new pads on." So after it was done I went to pick my car up and when I was driving the car and I applied my brakes I heard squeaking so I went back to Midas and they test drive it and said that he couldn't hear anything so they can't fix the problem unless they hear what I am hearing.

He said that he put two of the line brake pads on my car and that there is nothing wrong with my car. I will be back there bugging them until they fix the problem. I am never going back there for any other service to be done on my car.

Overcharged for Brake Service

HAMILTON, NEW JERSEY -- I was overcharged for services rendered by this shop. I was never quoted a price for alleged tire rods that I needed. The representative went on to say that he quoted me the price and he swears on his dead father that he quoted me. If he would have quoted me 600 for brake service I would have told him to take my car off the lift and give it back to me. I feel that I was way overcharged for brakes, rotors and tire rods. I will be filing a formal complaint with the state of New Jersey. Midas 3149 South Broad Street Hamilton, NJ 609 888 4700.

Auto Inspection
By -

RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK -- I brought my son's car in for an inspection and was told the car needed an oil change, front brake pads & rotors, wiper blades, tie rods and hub bearing assembly. Price quoted was over $1,000 so I asked for a breakdown of the costs but never made it past the price of the brake pads. I was quoted $189 for the front set of brake pads, excluding labor. I really did not have to go any further as I know brake pads run $40 to $60 a set.
The Midas was located at 888 Old Country Road in Riverhead, NY and I would avoid this business unless you enjoy over paying for auto repairs.
I brought the care elsewhere and got the work done for 1/2 the price and was not surprised by this. Terrible way to run a business if you ask me.

Midas Rips off everyone they can by over charging for bad service

CYPRESS, CALIFORNIA -- Nov. 16, 2009 4,400 miles ago I had a Midas shop turn the rotors and install new pads on my front brakes. Last week I had a dead battery so I had a different Midas shop install a new battery for $142.00. They told me my front brakes were bad and I needed new pads also they should turn or replace the front rotors. I was told it would cost between $400 to $500 dollars.

Their ad says they will replaces pads free. So I told them to only replace the pads with free pads. So they did and charged me $70 labor. Now the brakes squeal every time I stop and when I complained they told me I should replace everything namely hardware, rotors even the fluid lines but of course not their new free pads. I believe someone should sue them and their rip-off business ways. Don't trust Midas.

Trust the Midas Touch, but Not the Midas Estimate
By -

My Ford truck and my Mitsubishi Eclipse needed new brakes, so I took them into Midas believing I could trust the words of a popular company. After 6 hours of waiting, I find out each vehicle would cost respectively $540.86 and $568.86, this being for JUST front brakes on the truck, and then front and rear on the Eclipse. I told them forget it and to put 'em back together, than to give me the estimates.

I then took these cars to three other mechanics, all of whom said they would not only do it for cheaper, but when inspected, found that the eclipse in fact did not even need new front brakes or rotors, and that the truck actually could use both front and back brakes. Good call Midas. In the end I paid $312 for the truck and $182 for the Eclipse, a total of $494, as opposed to the about $1110 I would have paid at Midas, for even some of the wrong parts.

Horrible Customer Service
By -

TUSTIN -- Just went to the local Midas shop located at 3085 Edinger Avenue, Tustin, CA 92780 today for a brake pad change. Initially the manager was cordial and I ordered my repair request and we agreed to a price. In addition, I had requested for an oil change. So while doing the work, the mechanic indicated that the oil change was not included in the estimate and it was done for free. So when I was about to pay the bill I saw a revised estimate that included the cost of the oil change. When I asked the accountant why was that included he could not answer and the manager came out and started screaming that he doesn't give anything free.

I explained to him what was agreed and what the mechanic had said. But he refused to accept that and became belligerent and started throwing his clipboard in front of me and then started screaming that next time I shouldn't come to his store (even though my warranty on the brakes says I need to come to the Midas store). Anyway this was the height of customer service and have never experienced anything like this. I am not sure how people like the manager survives in jobs that are customer oriented and how the Midas Corporation continues to hire such people.

Rest assured that I will never going to go to Midas and I will make it a mission to tell everyone never to go to Midas or have the "Midas Experience". These guys based on my experience and all the reviews I have read are a piece of work. Hope they just go way.

Never Go To Midas
By -

ILLINOIS -- I went to do a coolant flush and they called me and said my front brakes are really bad. So I believed in them and asked them to replace it. When I came back, my bill was $500 and the reason they told me was they had to replace the rotors and the brake pads. I believed in them and paid them and went home. I opened my hood to find that the coolant flush was not at all done because the coolant reservoir was at the same low level I had given them before. Then I noticed that every time I brake I am hearing a high pitched noise. It is not the squealing noise that you hear on the new brakes.

I went to Midas and asked them to take a look at it. They could not figure the problem out and they would not do anything about it. So now I have a car that makes weird noise every time. So please take your car to a good mechanic you can trust.

Ripped Off

NOCROSS, GA -- Before I get started let me just make note that I'm not talking bad about all Midas Corp. just the one I went to. I took my car into Midas maybe a couple weeks ago and had an inspection done on my 95 Buick LeSabre for the brakes to be checked. I didn't know what the problem was so they told me they would check it out. Well I thought a full inspection was done on my brakes but it wasn't. I paid almost $600 for rear brakes and a master cylinder. Well a week later its making the same grinding noise I take it back and they tell me we only did a inspection on your rear brakes and the master cylinder and when I brought my car in my front pads were new.

OK I left my car to be checked again and they tell me I need new front pads and a caliber for almost $500. My question is when you get an inspection on brakes aren't they supposed to check everything consisted with brakes. They told me they only did one on the rear and master cylinder if you don't know what the problem is how do you only do an inspection on certain parts? Oh one more thing my car was left sitting outside with the windows down and it rained for a couple days. The managers excuse was we have some young workers in here. Now is that really an excuse?
