Harassed for old debt
By -

NEW YORK -- I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I should proceed with NCO. They contacted me about an old debt with Dress Barn. I did have an account with them many years ago but I just ordered a copy of my credit report and there is no mention of any debt to them. The person from NCO said that bills were sent for years to my previous address but were never forwarded to me. This has to be going back at least nine years. I have no problem with paying the debt if I owe it but there is no indication that this is true. They told me that I could not contact or pay Dress Barn because they bought the debt and I owe them the money.

The man was incredibly rude and threatened to just place this debt on one of my other credit cards because he "has access to my account information and knows all of my credit card numbers." He said that I could have a lien placed on my house and that I could be sued by them. I told the man that I would need to think about this because it did not sound ethical.

He proceeded to call me eight times that night and I would just pick up the phone and hang it up. I recently received a letter from their office in Horsham, PA telling me that I can pay my debt in a lump sum. I do not trust these people but I do not want to ruin my credit or get sued. I saw that they had checked my credit report. Any advice?

NCO Financial Returned My Letter

Rating: 2/51

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA -- Okay I decided to tackle a bill I owed for medical reasons, it wasn't much - just $1500. I got a call only one from NCO, Googled the crap out of them and figured out they bought the debt. Also Googled getting a debt company off your back and discovered that one can pay pennies on the dollar, to what the actual debt was. I sent them a letter to this effect stating I can afford $387 would you accept this as payment in full and if so please remove this delinquent status on my credit report. (Got a legal copy of the letter online.)

Here's my problem, the letter just got returned to me under "Not Deliverable as Addressed" NCO Financial Systems Inc. 21250 Hawthorne Blv, Suite 400 Torrance, CA 90503. Can anyone help me with the correct address AND am I going about this the right way. Again I do not dispute the amount owed, I just cannot afford the full amount.

After having the phone # for 5 (FIVE) years I still continue to receive annoying debt collection calls for the said no. I have stated to the callers that they need to update the NCO Database, that the person they are looking does not have the phone # indicated in their files. I still receive calls 5-6 x a day! NCO should develop a way of tracing their debtors. I googled the name called - the name came out with 6 addresses in the same locality. Why can't NCO do the same thing? Get to the Motor Vehicle, get the right address. phone #, etc....rather than calling the old number for 5 years!!! You're wasting time and effort for repetitive results! Be pro-active and stop making annoying calls.

Bogus collections and incompetence

I received a letter from this company dated 2/12/2010 which stated I needed to contact them within 10 days of the date on the letter or they would move forward with debt collection. The enveloped was post marked 2/17/2010, 5 full days later..... There was no way I would receive the letter within the 10-day period. I called the day after I received the letter and they said it was too late, they were garnishing my wages. I explained the tax debt was an error on the part of Virginia and was cleared up 3 years ago. They refused to listen and insisted I pay them the bogus amount. This company has no scruples.

Late sending out billing notice

HORSHAM, PENNSYLVANIA -- This company does not send out your payment coupon in time for you to get it posted without being late.
I receive my coupon on the 5th of each month at the post office, open it and insert my check and mail it straight back (air mail) then I receive a letter from them claiming I have not kept the payment arrangements. This is not fair practice on NCO part and they should not be allowed to stay in business. I think they want to be paid and also put it on your credit report and if this is going to be allowed then why pay it.

Negligence

I am a brand new mom and wife. Planning to buy a home and set down roots. I have never received a phone call, postal mail, or an email regarding an account taken over by NCO. Not even Progressive insurance. I have learned the hard way about credit cards, and I have paid off my debt. I had to find out from a mortgage company about a three-year attempt to collect a debt.

I am floored that this is on my credit and no attempts to contact me have been made. I have moved every year since 2006 yet have kept the same phone number, so why on earth would a collection agency neglect to collect on an account? I feel that this company slanders consumers credit and neglect their responsibilities. I have tried to communicate via email and phone, and have found it impossible to connect with a live person. The customer service values are a mess and their follow up with consumers is next to nonexistent.

Illegal Debt Collections

My Father passed away over 10 yrs ago. ALL of his debts were sent through probate and done away with. My Mother is now 90 yrs old and NCO has been trying to collect on a credit card my Father had 13 yrs. ago that went through probate. They have harassed her for the last 6 yrs about paying this card balance. We moved her to a nursing home 2 yrs ago and now they are sending collection letters to my address threatening to sue her. I hope they try it will be laughed out of court by our local judges who have a history of not tolerating such nonsense. And to the employee of NCO that posted how sad we are and should pay our debts.

I say... "How sad that you cannot pay your research dept to actually find out if the people you threaten even owe you money. You are the scum of the earth and ill-trained in your job." Most of you knowingly break the law everyday at your job and are nothing more than criminals and the rest simply do not even know the proper way to collect a debt (I have worked in collections) and are ignorant of the laws in your field that tell you what you can and cannot say to debtors. I will be sending a dispute letter on her behalf as power of attorney and copies to my attorney general's office. I hope they shut you down!!!

Just Ignore The Guys

What is the worst they can do..screw your credit up for 7 years if it is chg off or 10 yrs if judgement? Just do not pay them or others like them and get on a cash basis. You do not need credit. You can buy a car and if you want a home get owner financing. Life is too short to worry about these things. I spent 18 Years managing HFC and Associates. We made loans and collected them ..We were professional. NCO just has auto dial and hopes for the best. I draw retirement from HFC and Associates. I am now self employed 22 years. My advice do not answer phone and get on with life and If any collectors disagree with me then who cares?

Criminal Enterprise
By -

NCO Financial Services has been trying to contact someone with the same name as my son. He is an adult and no longer living in my household. I am still not convinced they have the right person. In any case, I have relayed the message to my son and told them so. I have seen a couple of reviews with an "employee" telling people how they are only doing their jobs and trying to earn a buck and feel abused. Tough. You guys are criminals, at least in my state. It is illegal to initiate a telephone call with no intention to have a legitimate conversation.

Once I tell you that I have no business with you, and the party you're looking for is not at this number there is no reason for you to call me several times a day, several times a week. We have no business and I have no interest in talking to them. I did the right thing and relayed the message to my son to deal with this situation. I have talked with these people in a civil manner, and they ignore me. I have yelled at them and they still call me.

As much as I hate doing this, I have started to treat them as the perverts who make obscene phone calls, which is also a criminal act. I have started to blow my police whistle when they call. Before long, I may need to call police to make a criminal complaint against this criminal enterprise.

Already Fined And Found Unprofessional Business Practice

PENNSYLVANIA -- I just received a phone call from NCO financial systems trying to get information from someone I am not related to, nor have spoken to in over 7 years. The number that called me was 918-665-8200. The people were antagonistic and almost demanding that I give personal info. I looked them up on the internet and found more than one court case where they were found, let's say "in the wrong." 'Associated Content' from the internet had this to say: "This is a collection agency that plays dirty pool. Really, really dirty pool." If you are contacted by them, JUST HANG UP!!!
