ORLANDO, ILLINOIS -- Very poor signage at the Orlando airport telling you where to wait to get your shuttle pick up for NU Car Rental; they should really consider spending the money to advertise the way that all of the major companies do. Once we found where to wait, we called for shuttle pick up and it took them nearly 45 minutes to pick us up, and the rental center was quite a ways away from the airport. This caused us to miss dinner plans with the family that we were visiting, and also caused us to have a very late check-in to our hotel.

Before we left the facility, we were warned that there were some "toll traps" around the area and that we would be charged $25 for missing tolls in unmanned toll booths. Of course, this happened to us when we returned our car to the facility. When we were checking out, the same man who checked us in asked if we were returning a Sun Pass that we rented from them. My husband informed the man that we were never given the option of renting this from them, which would have eliminated the $25 fine that we will surely be charged. All the man said was, "Oh". We travel to Florida a lot and will never use this company again!

ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- I found this company first on Kayak and then went direct to their website. Made the reservation and after the confirmed email arrived, it stated lots of restrictions which don't appear anywhere on the reservations page. Car can't leave the state of Florida, free 100 miles per day Florida residents only and proof of insurance required. This was a prepaid reservation with a cancellation fee. After seeing this I first emailed the company. I then called the toll free number and it was answered at first by a person and it sounded like a party was going on then very quickly they hung up.

I then called again and this time it answered correctly, the company name etc., all agents are busy and to please send an email!!! That tells you what to expect. I got nervous and tried to cancel the reservation online even if I had to pay a fee. Surprise, surprise, can't be canceled. I then called my credit card company and canceled my card, it appeared they tried to charge my card but it was rejected for a communication error. I am a hotel owner of 25 years and let me tell you stay away from this company.

ORLANDO, CONNECTICUT -- We booked this company because they had the lowest rate on a minivan, which we needed because my wife is handicapped and uses a travel scooter. On the day of travel our flight to Orlando was delayed 3 hours. When I learned of the delay I called NU to let them know of our delay, and was told no problem, our van would be waiting for us. When we finally arrived, we had to wait about 20 minutes for a shuttle (most car rentals at Orlando operate out of a parking garage attached to the terminal). It took almost a half hour to get to the lot, which only had about a dozen cars on it (not a good sign).

The clerk told us that because we were late, our van was given to someone else and we had to wait at least an hour for another van, although there were 2 sitting on the lot. The clerk was very rude and unapologetic when I told him about my earlier phone call, and said he could not help us. Fortunately we had a friend in the area who could pick us up. I canceled the rental and got a van from Hertz the next day.

MIAMI, FLORIDA -- AVOID!!! Last week I reserved and prepaid $107 for 1 week car rental in Miami. When I arrived to MIA early in the morning, not only I had to pay for a taxi because they never arrived at pickup location, but they also charged me an additional $243 (Yes, a total of $350!!!)

Unexpected charges included: Mandatory added insurance (14.95 per day), Mandatory Sunpass ($10 per day and yes, you cannot use your own or Sunpass Mini), Road Tax (2,05 per day), MIA Concession (4,5%), Energy Recovery (4,25%), Vehicle License Rec (6,5%) Sales Tax (7%). Worst attention ever, the car was notoriously crashed and repaired. I hope you guys are lucky enough to see this review and stay as far away as possible from this SCAMMERS.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Wrong reservation possibly my fault. I tried to call several times phone number on document was wrong. After searching I found a new number. When I tried to call it I got an answering machine left message. Called global phone number. Left a message. After several calls trying to reach a person the global representative answered they tried to call they got no answer. But they returned my call telling me they would get back.

Called Las Vegas agent again they answered. When I asked to change reservation they told me to call Global agent to change reservation. Their online request form does not work. It's like trying to talk to the wall. Very dissatisfied with their system. These people need help! Do not rent from these people!

Absolutely Horrible Experience

MIAMI, FLORIDA -- Absolutely horrible services. Extremely unpleasant experience. Just bad. I regret that I didn't check the review before I made a reservation through Orbitz. There were overwhelming amount of negative reviews online, and I wouldn't have rented a car if I read them.

There are many hidden cost, and I ended up paying about twice as much as the original quote. They charge $10 extra a day for each additional driver. (I have never heard of such thing...) They will force you to use their insurance if you don't have a car insurance policy card with you. (Who would travel with the car insurance policy card with them? Luckily, we had GEICO policy card.). They will force you to pay another $10 a day for SunPass, which is probably overpriced for what it is.

The car is in bad condition. The tail ramp was broken, and at the end, the service agent almost blamed for the damage. I was so glad that I took pictures of the car before we left the facility. The service agent was the worst. We returned the car an hour before our drop off time, but she claimed we are 5 hours late and we were going to be charged for an extra day. As I pointed out the original quote clearly shows the drop off time, and she had to admit that it was her "mistake".

As I didn't accept her apology for her sneaky "mistake", she got so mad and called us being so critical because of our cultural background. Enough said. So bad. It ruined our fun vacation to certain extent. In fact, I would recommend strongly not to use this service. The service is also known as Auto Boutique. Be careful.

Rental nightmare

Rented a car from Nu Car rental while in Costa Rica. Made the reservation about 1 mo prior to trip. Rates were great and spent time reading the extra information- insurance, liability, driving qualifications. At the counter, the associates described the insurance prices on a handwritten page. Made a decision without being able to recheck the internet information because there is limited connection. I was overcharged for the insurance by an additional $20 per day compared to the online information.

I am outraged by this bait and switch scam and yes, Nu car rental is part of the problem. I expect the information at the time of booking to be accurate. The support unit for NU states that I agreed at the counter but what choice did I have when I had already partially paid for the rental at the time of booking? This is customer fraud! Bait and switch scam and unethical business practices. I will be telling all friends, family, and business associates to avoid NU car rental.

MIAMI -- I had booked car rental service from Miami agency from Jan 10-13th, 2016. Pick up was from Miami Airport location. I was taken to the pick up location after waiting for the driver for 20 minutes. Upon arrival I was shocked when the representative asked 1000USD as deposit cause of my Florida Driver's License. I clearly explained that I have a return flight early morning on Jan 13th and don't live in Florida anymore. He refused to listen and when I asked to speak with his superior, a guy called Robert approached me very rudely and told me to move aside so they could assist other customers behind me even after I was standing on the side already.

Robert who claimed to be the person in charge of that location is the rudest person with the worst attitude and absolutely illiterate and uneducated in customer service and business ethics. Such kind of people need to be fired and replaced with better talent since it directly reflects on the image of your company.

I gladly rented from SIXT and they were super happy to have my business without the hassle of paying any 1000.00 deposit since I had my departing flight details which the representative and their so called manager Robert blindly ignored it. Due to extreme poor service and worst attitude and poor business ethics, I am reporting to the relevant agencies until Nu Car Rental terminates the so-called manager Robert from their Miami Airport Location. Thank you.

NU Car Rental - Do Not Rent! Scam Warning

TORONTO -- This company is a scam! I wish I read this review before booking a car! I booked this car online with NU car rental at Toronto Airport and they are affiliated with TransCanada (another scam company). Firstly the car gas tank is half full and I wasn't told if I fill it up it's not reimbursible! And they advertise a low rate of $11 or $13 but they add so much hidden fees it's way way more than $13!!! I ended up paying more than $100, and worse, they quoted in US$ and ended paying way more in CAD$. These scammers are thieves. And they steal your money, like in daylight robbery. Never deal with these 2 companies again.

ORLANDO -- Booked car for 10:00 am, arrived at rental agency at 01:00 pm. Was given the full size car we had requested. Upon inspected noted the interior of the car was very dirty, declined car. Was informed by the agent she would upgrade to a van then it was determined she was unable to do so. Then we were given a mid size car, but paid for full size. It took over 1 hour to get a vehicle.

Upon leaving rental agency noted the tire light was. My husband checked the tire pressure and all tires needed to be filled. The next day the tire light was again on. We were not in Orlando so we just fill tire on a daily basis. My brother noted when vehicles were returned they were given a quick rinse and passed off to the next rental person, with no inspection of vehicle. Problems with this rental agency:

  1. Lacking proper maintenance of vehicles.
  2. Given dirty vehicle then getting less than what you pay.
  3. Length of time to obtain vehicle.
