Beware Return Costs!

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- Beware return costs - even if overstock.com makes the mistake, you are out of pocket!! I recently ordered bed sheets from overstock.com through eBay; they shipped the wrong size. When I contacted overstock.com, the response was talk to eBay. eBay finally gave approval to return the incorrect item for refund; when I asked about the cost of shipping the incorrect item from Canada, overstock.com said it was nothing to do with them, talk to eBay! eBay told me it was not their problem, and that I had had a choice on whether or not to send the item back - no choice if I wanted any refund!!!

End result: overstock.com sent me the wrong item and I had to pay for the privilege of returning it so that could obtain a refund! Initial purchase cost $125 (refunded by eBay); return shipping $27 - my expense!! No accountability & no consequences for "bad behavior" = poor customer service!

I ordered over $4000 of furniture from Overstock one month ago. I'm so pleased with the whole process from ordering to delivery and quality. I was definitely skeptical what with the amount I was spending and some of the reviews I read, but I have to say I would not hesitate to do it again and again. Great, great buys and amazing customer service! Any company that offers a live online chat is a definite plus.

I even elected to return 2 bar stools because the height of them was not going to work for us. The return was easy and the credit posted back to my account within a few days after they got them back. I've certainly been spreading the word around to my friends and family and definitely give this experience a full 5 stars!!

Basilica Wall Mirror & Tiffany-style Lamp

I did not immediately realize how filthy the mirror was when it arrived. I had arranged to have someone hang it for me and began "wiping it off" which turned into an hour and a half of cleaning furiously. It took 12 moist cleaning cloths and paper towels and 18 Q-tips to get rid of the BLACK DIRT that covered every millimeter of every nook, cranny, and crevice.

I think that if I went over it again, I would still get that black dirt coming off; there is no end to it! I am guessing that somewhere along the line, it was stored, unprotected, where there was a lot of automotive traffic because that's how BLACK the cloths were.

I love the mirror and dread the hassle of return and possibly getting another one in the same condition. I love my lamp, too, and it was completely clean, but the workmanship is not meticulous by any means. I will avoid Overstock in the future.

King Size Bed Missing Part of the Bed

I ordered king size bed from Overstock.com and waited more than four weeks to receive my shipment. At the delivery day, the time of delivery supposed to be between 11am to 3pm, and I was told I will get a call 30 minutes before arrival time... no that never happened! I took time off from work 4pm. Still no call or no delivery. I called the delivery company after half hour later I was told they are running late, they will be there soon. Now 5:30 the delivery man shows up, we ask them to open the box for verification before they leave because that's what Overstock told us to do, no! They say no they don't do that, they are just here to drop off the boxes.

We signed their delivery form without knowing what's in the box... We start opening the boxes now we are missing all the screws and pins to put the bed together, the manual/instructions, and the head board of the bed. We aren't sure if we have all the pieces because we don't have a manual telling us what should be in the boxes. When I called overstock.com they told me they will get back to me in two business days. When I asked to talk to a manager I wasn't able to and when I asked to talk to the corporate I was told they don't have a phone # they only have email... 45 minutes later still no one to answer my question why I was missing part of the bed.

I went online and searched for corporate # and called the # finally someone sounded like they will help me... Boy!! I was wrong! The next day the gal called me back to tell me I should have everything and that to check all the pieces. The delivery company don't have it. Then she tells me they don't have the items I'm missing in stock any more. She said they can return everything and will give a refund! At this point I am very frustrated and upset.... I have removed my old furniture and empty my room and purchased new staff that matches this bed and she is telling they don't have the item any more.... there is nothing they can do.

At this point I don't trust anything they say I'm actually worried if they are going to pick up the staff and give me a refund. The gal told me she will call me back some time today to let me know when they will pick the staff and give a refund. I went to their website and the bed is available it is not out of stock! I'm so disappointed! Such a horrible customer service!! O.com doesn't care about customer satisfaction they just want get you off the phone and out of the way! They don't care about losing customers. I advise anyone not to make a mistake purchasing anything from them.

This is the first time in my life I am posting compliant online. I am very disgusted about the treatment I received by o.com!

Let the Buyer Beware!
By -

ANYWHERE, MISSOURI -- Let the Buyer Beware! (Austin Reed suit): Overstock.com represents this product with a picture of an American made Austin Reed suit that retails for around $600 (I recognize the suit pictured, as I own one in another color). The suit they send is a Chinese made version that sells elsewhere for around $300, with different lining and different label. (Check the inner pocket and lining as shown in the pictures. The suit they sent to me had a silver-grey lining and a different label.) My attorney called this false advertising and fraud, since it shipped across state lines.

The suit itself (not the lawsuit): The suit was poorly constructed and of thin material. It weighed around half the weight of my other Austin Reed suit (the American made version, bought locally). It did not arrive in its original packaging, and was in fact balled up in the box, and hung on a hanger which advertised a competing brand. I hope potential shoppers read this and understand not only that the suit they will receive is substandard and made in China, but if they still decide to purchase this suit, that they also understand that after adding $60-$100 for tailoring, this is no bargain in any sense of the word at the Overstock price.

Customer service: After many emails back and forth with Overstock'€™s representatives, who first tried to send me another Chinese suit, then another pair of pants (because they couldn'€™t comprehend the written word, I can only assume), their only solution offered was to return the suit. I did so after taking pictures, as my attorney recommended. (There will be no further discussion of this, as the issue is not yet resolved.) After the suit was returned at their request, Overstock offered to refund the purchase amount, but not the shipping cost, and had the gall to add a charge for return shipping in an amount almost three times the original shipping cost.

Needless to say, "that ain't going to fly"€. Conclusion: I have dealt with many online vendors from Amazon to Zappos, but never had such a poor customer service experience, nor felt cheated by the seller. I will continue to shop from A to Z, but will skip over the "O"€œ from now on. I will not be shopping Overstock.com ever again, and will not recommend them to my friends, or to anyone reading this review. P.S. I should have checked their stock performance first (OSTK), as it seems it has been falling rapidly (60%!) this past year. I do not wonder why.

Overstock.com Overcharging International Customers
By -

Just a heads for those that are not aware. Overstock.com is overcharging consumers that are purchasing internationally. I first noticed this when I decided to change my local to the USA from Canada. My cart dropped from $375 Cad to $300 USD, this appeared to be too large a change for current exchange rates,1 USD = 1.03660 CAD. I was able to locate an option on the Canadian side to be able to purchase my order in USD. When I compared my US cart to my Canadian International Cart there was a $50 US price difference in the two carts. This is just the carts before any taxes, duties, or shipping charges are added on to each order.

Doing some basic math I was able to determine that Canadian customers are being charged a 24.7% premium over what US customers are charged. To make sure it was not only Canadians I also checked ordering from the UK in USD and they were being charged a 26% premium. I was prepared to purchase from them before I found out about the premium they charge for international customers. Other online retailers allow international customers to order without being overcharged just because they outside of the country (Amazon, Martin and Osa are two I can confirm) ship to Canada and Internationally without charging premiums.

I post this as a heads up for anyone considering purchasing from Overstock.com internationally so they know that they are being overcharged.

Do Not Order From Overstock!! They Are Pond Scum!!
By -

MISSOURI -- This is absolutely ludicrous! Those shoes were not worn or used in any sense of the word. Pictures were taken of those very shoes, box and all at the post office prior to mailing them to your facility. This is something I thought would be in my best interests when I heard a friend's horror story about a return fiasco with your company Overstock.com. How is someone to know that a product they purchased online is or is not the product they purchased, shoes in this case, without opening the box? Please explain this to me?

If a full refund is not approved for this return, you will see my reviews on your return procedure and horrible customer service on every review for every item you have on your website, Overstock.com. I will make it my daily amusement to ensure that your online consumers browsing with Overstock.com be wary and proceed with caution due to the Overstock.com return "policy": "Don't open that package, unless you the consumer only want half of what you paid for it refunded back! Regardless if you used it or not! And you can forget about being reimbursed for shipping it back to us too! We will just resell this product over again and do it to someone else."

I think I like the mantra "And then some better" but who am I just someone who tried purchasing some shoes. That was obvious to the four (4) people in the room did not fit my foot as soon as they were pulled from the box!
Not to mention the other sites I will voice my concern on. I know you are merely a customer service minion but I would suggest that someone get this into the hands of someone that can do something about getting the full refund within the next 7 business days, including shipping which was $9.75.

In seven days without a full refund and return shipping, I will contact Consumer Reports, I will contact the online BBB, I will contact my local news in St. Louis, MO. I will place a nice long babbling conversation on my blog of how my mother was taken advantage of by Overstock.com, just because she was trying to be kind and purchase a gift for me. Oh and hello YouTube!!! So, I would simply ask you to rethink the condition the product really was in when "inspected" by your Overstock.com staff (shoes, in a box for Christ sake).

Overstock.com - Did They Know All Along They Sent the Wrong Item? Bait and Switch!
By -

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- Bought a $490 torchiere lamp from Overstock & was thrilled when I arrived home to a large box on the porch. Thrilled that is, until I opened the box and found it wasn't what I ordered. BTW I wouldn't have even opened the box if there was some indication, say a taped on packing slip, a photo on the outside of the box that would have provided a clue to what was inside. According to Overstock I should have refused delivery on an expected item in an unmarked box. Seems Oversuck has psychic powers far beyond mine, they can see into unmarked boxes across the country and know upfront the customer shouldn't have opened the box on delivery.

I did find it odd, on a fairly expensive item there was NO packing slip outside or inside the box. At first I gave O the benefit of doubt, but in re-reading my chat transcripts, several emails, I'm confident they knew that they sent out. Similar to the other stories here, customer orders an expensive item - O sends the wrong item and makes their return process ridiculous leaving the customer to either accept the item or deal with O for months.

It doesn't end there though.. 2 weeks of back & forth customer is always wrong emails, live chat and phone banter with no resolution. BTW The O bot promised a return label within 2 business days. On day 8 after 4 emails I received an illegible UPS return label. When I say illegible, it had nothing to do with my printer, the font used ran together like blowhole snot. From reading the other reviews posted here, bait and switch seems to be the norm.

UPDATE November 23, 2007: Overstock sent me an email to review the product sent (evidently they are that clueless)... so I put my experience with O on the review. I was polite, no cursing, no bashing - just the facts & lo and behold my review is not published on the O site for the item I purchased. Funny thing is, I clicked on the link to leave a review & the site says my review has already been published. Uh huh. My rating must have fallen off their site just like the item I ordered. Overstock = 2 words > never again.

Don't Buy From Overstock!
By -

Rip off scam with Club O and forget returns, you been had!!!! I have been a long time customer of Overstock, spent quite a lot of money with them and until now I've never had any serious problems with them. First off, never, ever, ever, buy into their "club O". This is a scam. You pay them in order to get reduced prices but once you get access, you will find that many of the "reduced" prices are minimal. Oh and hey, you get $1.00 shipping all the time. Oh big deal. 9 times out of 10 you get free shipping not being an O member or at worst it is $2.95 but even club O seems to exclude those "hard to ship" items and you get whammed anyway.

Here is the stinker about Club O: Example: You find item ABC that is priced wonderfully for Club O members only at $150.00. If you are not a club O member, it will cost you $155.00 so hey you save an additional $5.00 and you think wow great. Then you do an internet search on "Overstock coupon codes" just checking to see if there are any good coupons I could apply. Hey, I see one! $15.00 of $150.00 or more and you think, wow great, that's a great deal. I won't get my $5.00 club O reduction but instead I'll get $15.00 off the original $150.00 and come out better in the long run. Wrong.

How is this for a scam: You go to the site, you put ITEM ABC into your cart. The cart shows $150.00 plus shipping, then you apply the coupon code. Wow, it applies and saves you $15.00 more dollars, now your cart is $135.00 plus shipping! Yippee! Right? Wrong. You enter your credit card info, with each passing page the final price of the item does not change from $135.00, the discount is continually shown. Now, they have your credit card info. You mouse to that complete order button and wham, this is where it all goes straight to hell.

The confirmation order page shows that you were NOT charged $135.00 plus shipping but you were actually charged $150.00 plus shipping. They wait until they have your credit card info and then once the order is placed, they increase the amount. Personally, I don't see how this is legal but I'm not an attorney coz if I was I would be too busy suing these bunch of thieves to write this! Then, you get mad and call their "customer service", that's what they call it, I call it, Overstock-how-to-take-you-to-the-cleaners service.

The "friendly" person on the other end of the phone argues with you over and over and over again about the applied coupon and that you can't do that if you are a club O member. And I try to explain to the little girl or boy that it doesn't make sense to join a club in which you pay to get better prices than the general public when in fact the general public can avoid paying the club fee and get better prices simply by using a coupon. The little rep doesn't understand this concept.

I explain to the little rep that it is listed in their policies for Club O members on THEIR site that the club O member is to always get the better price, either the coupon is to be applied or the club O discount, whichever results in the greater discount. Are you with me here? It's a simple concept. This little rep asks me where I found that information on what page because she doesn't believe this is their policy. I ask for a supervisor who upon my long and detailed explanation agrees with me and acknowledges the Overstock policy but does NOT credit my card the difference. Instead I am given a credit for a future purchase.

And the whole thing starts all over again next time you order something. Do I hear class action lawsuit????? Next problem is with their returns. If you are reading this and you need to return something, let me inform you, that you are totally screwed. You have been had. Here's the deal. My husband ordered a Nordicware fry pan set, really nice and cost a little over $150.00. I anxiously await the arrival of this set because my current set is SHOT and I need a new one asap. Normally, in the past I had received my items within a couple of days, day 6 (very disappointing on the ship time), a box shows up on my porch.

I exclaim with much glee, "Yippee!!!!" as I excitedly open the box like a kid at Xmas. I could almost taste how bad I wanted this set. Do my eyes deceive me? Can this really be? It is not my long awaited Nordicware fry pan and griddle set. It is some strange looking black non stick, very large pan and a metal stock pot with a couple of cooking tools thrown in the bottom of the box. Packing material, oh you silly fool, they did not put any in the box so the items in the VERY large box floated around and beat the tar out of each other before my very disappointed eyes got to see that I had been shipped the incorrect piece of junk.

Now, these items have never seen nor can they comprehend the word quality. Total crap not to mention the totally wrong item. Personally, if it had been the right item, I would have been pretty mad at the inferior quality. Anyway, I get on the phone, little miss hopeful not worried in the least feeling confident that Overstock would take the items back and quickly resolve my issues and get me the correct merchandise. I must have been temporarily insane. Not only did they refuse to talk to me because my husband's name was on the order, they informed me that although this is their fault, this is now basically my problem and my expense to resolve.

Oh and BTW, the box did not include a shipping invoice or anything on paper for that matter. Well when we were finally able to talk to a CS rep, we were informed that if we wanted the correct set, this junk they sent would have to be returned first by me DRIVING it to one of their preferred locations (list would be mailed to me) and then after they are done processing, they would see about sending me the correct items provided they still had them.

Here is the timeline they gave me to complete this process: Snail mail return label to me: 1 week. I must drive to preferred location to drop off: 1-2 days. They receive wrong item: 1 week. They process wrong item: 1+ week. They generate correct item to me if they still have it: God only knows how long. It comes via mail: 6 days minimum. So to get the correct item, it will take me an additional almost 5 weeks from today PROVIDED they don't screw me over like they have some of the others out here that have posted complaints.

I tell CS rep this is unacceptable, what are they trying to hold on to my $150.00 as long as possible so they can make some $$$ in interest? C'mon!!!! CS rep tells me, you want refund? So I decide, I'm done with Overstock, I'll get a refund and shop elsewhere from now on. Guess what, the refund is going to take just about as long provided I "qualify". QUALIFY!!!! What the hell does that mean? I order and pay for items, the brainless twits send me $50.00 worth of other junk instead, and I have to "qualify" to get a refund?????

So here's the deal, Overstock has my $150.00, I have their $50.00 worth of trash and am awaiting my snail mail return form so I can go drive around to their "preferred locations" to drop off their piece of crap stuff and use my GAS to do it along with my time which I will never get reimbursed for so they can decide if I "qualify" for a refund while they now have both the original merchandise, the junk I send back and my $150.00. So this is how they can afford all those commercials. Damn good scam boys! I bet their mommas are proud of them!

Hmmmmm, think I will just call the bank in the morning, cancel the charge (thank God for cancels) and return their crap to them. Then we are about even, I'm out a little time and gas. My face, fingers and mouse will never dawn their webdoor again. I'll stick with the companies that I know are trustworthy. Would love to see a criminal history on these guys... can only imagine.
