Don't Buy Polaroid

JOHNSTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA -- We purchased a 15.4" Polaroid LCD TV in October 2007. We were happy to have a smaller screen in the area where we spend much time. Unhappily, the screen lost its picture in January 2009. I wrote the company and asked them if it was their policy to make a product that lasts less than 15 months. I received a response from a technician which was not acceptable so I asked for a supervisor. To the only credit I can give, I will say that the emails were quick but they said that they could repair it for $99+ shipping. I figured that would total between &150-$200. I paid $260. I decided it would be best to spend that much getting another (non-Polaroid) TV and declined the offer.

TOLEDO, OHIO -- We are in the same situation as a lot of people with this TV. On April 2007 we purchased a 37" TV at Circuit City. Just one day before the year warranty our TV stopped working, no picture but sound, also we could not turn the TV on or off we had to unplug it. After calling to customer service they were going to send the "brain" to us and call this 1-800 number and set up a service appointment. This should only of taken like 3-5 days, after the 5th day I phoned in again of course they could not find were the part was sent, so another 3-5 days.

So the part arrives which is a refurbished part, and replaced in May 2008. The current situation is we have the same problem 6 months later, I called customer service who took my information and said sorry it's out of warranty and wanted some crazy price to get a refurbished part. I explained to them that I don't have $250 every 6 months to put money into this TV. Needless to say after 1 1/2 years we are out of luck after paying $1000.00. Word of advice DON'T BUY POLAROID.

Poorly Made Television

CANTON, MISSISSIPPI -- I bought the Polaroid 37" LCD TV. The model number is FLM-373B. I bought this TV in March of 2007. Eighteen months ago I started having trouble with this TV. When I turn it on it makes a loud whining noise. When I try to watch a show in hi-def, the TV just goes crazy. There are lines and different colors, and it continues to make loud noise. I can't use the remote control to turn it off, and I can't turn it off manually.

I have to turn off the surge protector or unplug it. When I contacted Polaroid, the man said he was sorry that I enjoyed my TV for such a short time. Since the one year warranty was up, he offered to send me another TV for $300.00. I would have to send them my TV back to them at my expense. He said it would be expensive to repair my TV.

I can't see how he could tell me how much it would cost to repair my TV when they haven't even seen it. "I still have it!" The TV they will send me will only have a three month warranty. I refuse to send a TV that I paid almost a $1,000.00 for, and then pay another $300.00 For another Polaroid TV that may not be any good. For anyone planning to buy a television, please do not buy a Polaroid. Please, please don't.

Large LCD Flat Screen TV w/ wall mount
By -

QUANTICO, VIRGINIA -- I recommend the Polaroid LCD TVs. The one we just purchased was for our kids bedroom. The TV has a built in DVD which is great b/c that is less that the kids have to store in their room. I also recommend, if you buy one for a kids room, that you get one with a wall mount b/c that way they can't reach it and put finger prints on the screen or otherwise damage it. The built in DVD is good for the same reason, they can't reach it.

The picture on these TVs is superb. Also, the sound is a stereo surround sound speaker which is wonderful. All in all, this TV is great. We have zero complaints about it. One last thing, the remote control is pretty good for kids because it is easy to figure out. My child already knows how to operate it; that is how easy it is to understand. I highly recommend this product. It is a very good investment!

Customer Service

PENNSYLVANIA -- I also purchased the Polaroid 40 inch LCD and encountered the problem with the TV no longer working after 20 months. It was also a faulty control box that is expensive to replace and install. I made numerous phone calls. Often times, whomever I spoke to would just give me another number to call and then that person would give me a number and on and on.

I grew extremely frustrated that my hard earned money seemed to be wasted. I will not reveal my secret but customer satisfaction can be achieved. I scoured the internet and found several sites like this one. I explored all of my options and finally contacted someone with whom worked with me to resolve my issues. I am happy to say that my TV is once again operational and it was at a minimal cost to me. I would like to say thanks to that someone for keeping this customer happy!

And for all of those reading this post, keep in mind that just because you read a lot of negative comments, there actually are positive comments too! If you weren't having a problem with a particular item, would you be looking here or even be posting on here? Therefore, there are happy Polaroid customers too they just don't have anything to post because they are enjoying their product. Best of luck to you. Polaroid does care about their customers, you just have to figure out who to talk to.

Reliability Problem and Fix
By -

I've owned this TV for about 18 months. I like the image quality but the sound quality is below average. I don't recommend buying one because this TV has a very a common reliability problem that usually occurs a few month after the 12 month warranty is up. At 17 months my TV refused to turn on. I contacted Polaroid and they said they did not do out of warranty repairs.

Polaroid TV Still Running Great

BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK -- Had this TV for over 5 years and it's still running great. I know people who play thousands for Sony Vizio or other "high end" brands that don't last as long. And the picture quality isn't nearly as good. I have seen a lot of bad reviews for Polaroid TVs but I am more than happy.

Keep away from Polaroid

My TV broke as soon as the year was up. Cost more to fix than replacing it. Last time I buy a Polaroid TV from Wal-mart. Going to Costco where they warranty their TV for two years.

Polaroid HDTV

I purchased a 27" Polaroid LCD HDTV for just under $600 three years ago. Not the most expensive but a "good brand". Within 14 months a shadow started growing on left side of screen. It continued to duplicate until entire screen had a wavy shadow pattern. Since it was out of warranty, I just moved TV to spare bedroom. Less than two years later with little use, the entire screen went to a mass of colored lines. I will be sure not to buy anything with the Polaroid name on it again.

Class action lawsuit? Count me in! I bought mine in Dec 07 at Wal-mart. DVD worked for the first few weeks then quit. The picture and sound worked great until Nov 09 when it made high pitched noises then the picture went blank. All I get is a light blue screen. I tried the phone numbers and emails, I couldn't get hold of anyone. Oh well. I'll use it for a nightlight until that goes, then maybe I'll bring it to hunting camp and use it for target practice!!!
