WOODSIDE, NEW YORK -- Do not use RCN if you want good service. It is a waste of money.
I recently upgraded to TIVO to save money and the quality has gone way down. I was told that my computer and television would work better and the opposite is true. Now I have trouble with my phone, internet and TV. I want to go back to the old way and they said that I can't. The service representatives are rude.
I am looking for another service.
VIRGINIA -- RCN. COM has to be one of the worst companies ever. We're completely held hostage to this company. Horrendous customer service, technical support and products. For over two months now they have been returning my email as SPAM and then today they started blocking all mail as being blacklisted by me. They have no clue on how to fix a problem after 6 phone calls that go on for hours. Problems never get fixed.

Tonight I talked to a supervisor pertaining to email issues and was told that he had no IT experience that he was just a supervisor. Now how is that. They hire people to supervise so-called IT staff and the supervisors have no IT experience. This is one reason problems don’t get fixed. You call RCN to report a problem and they never get back to you on the problem of get it fixed. Call back a week later and have to go around in a circle going over the samething you had to tell them the week before and it goes like this week after week.
HERNDON, VIRGINIA -- RCN Web Mail is simply terrible.
I have been a customer for 15+ years (Before RCN) purchased Erols. The past few years web mail service has been literally atrocious.
About 1 month ago, I got into an email conversation with a customer service representative who finally relented and said she knew of the problem because many customers were complaining and that they were aware of the latency problem for some time and were working on resolving it.
It got so, that I recently mailed a letter to the President and CEO complaining about the so-called "service". In the letter I told him RCN's service was literally driving me away to another ISP.
I got a phone call back from his assistant who said they were working on fixing the problem. No Cigar!!!
After being a customer for 15+ years, I'm gone!!!
HORRIBLE cable service/Customer service. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. Add reply
ARLINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS -- We had RCN for less than 1 year. ON July 1, a Thursday, our on-demand went out. I called RCN. They took the call. The next day, I called again, they took the call. I called every day, July 1-5. Of course being a holiday weekend - I did not get any response on my service call July 6th. We then canceled our service on July 22nd for RCN's non-ability to provide service.
They then are billing us for 1 week of service after we canceled. We have tried calling. To no avail - No on the other end of phone can help you or resolve your problem and supervisors who can resolve the problem are not reachable!!! Our problem is not resolved, and we don't know how to resolve it.
DO not get service with RCN.
RCN wants to charge me $12.95 to change my name on the account. I expected to pay for my driver's license and passport when my name changed, after all, those are new official documents that have to be created. But this is literally a data entry task. I haven't run into ANY other charges with banks, credit cards, or utilities. This is outrageous. 2 Replies - Latest reply on 09/04/2010Add reply
RCN has now taken to charging people an additional dollar on each bill paid (EVEN if paid on time), if you don't allow them access to your bank account for their auto pay program. Clearly they need competition in order to level the field and force them to behave ethically. 1 Replies - Latest reply on 08/15/2010Add reply
Can they do anything they promise?
Recently I decided to hook cable up in my apartment for my husband who is a HUGE hockey fan. I have heard a lot of bad things about RCN in the past, but I thought it would not hurt to give them a chance. ... read full review
DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO RCN
Do not subscribe to RCN. Their customer service is the worst. They have a contract with my housing provider, so they are the only cable TV service available. When I tried to set up my appointment, they ... read full review1 Replies - Latest reply on 01/05/2010
Before moving, I canceled the internet service three months ago via their automatic phone call, after pressing this button or that for almost 10 minutes.

But I still get bill from this great company for the the pass three months! And they told me not to use their phone cancellation! And they can't do anything for that.
It is really ...
I too am sick and tired of RCN, and after some digging online, I found this number for their Herndon VA headquarters. When you call it, they can direct you to the Executive Complaint Dept, I called after hours (different time zone) and left a message. I don't know if this will get any resolution, but it gets me past their English as a second language customer service jerks. Good Luck!!! 703.434.8200Add reply
We got RCN and we are very happy with the service. I was worry about it because the reviews are terrible but you really need to try it to see the true. Anyway the picture it's awesome and they have more HD channels. Internet it's a blast.
My cable TV box only lists 12 hours of programming where it used to list 24 hours I have called and called all they do is send a signal which doesent work or send out a tech who claims the problem is in Pa and makes a call it has been fixed twice and then just disappeared.
I have exhausted my options any help would be appreciated.
RCN sucks. How can a city as big as Chicago only have two cable companies, that both sucks by the way? RCN doesn't have many options to chose from, and if you have problems with your services you can expect to be credited O for all your problems. Then the customer services representative don't speak good English and they aren't helpful at all. I wish Chicago will look into having better cable companies here. And they are too high for the lousy services that they provides2 Replies - Latest reply on 08/21/2009Add reply
This cable company is terrible. Their services sucks and so do their customer services reps. There need to be more options for cable in Chicago. I'm so tired of these bootleg companies that overpriced the consumers for their greed Add reply
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- On July 14 RCN came to replace my building's cable backbone. I've had no service since then, despite multiple calls to an unresponsive customer service number. RCN refuses to acknowledge the work they were doing caused the service outage or take action to fix the problem. When our building manager called RCN he was told each resident would have to schedule separate service visits. This is absurd. The next available service visit is 7-20 with a requirement the resident be home for a five-hour window (on a work day) to wait for the tech when it's obvious the problem is at a building-level. This will mean SIX DAYS without service for a problem RCN itself caused.
Go with Comcast. Or just go with regular digital broadcast. If you must subscribe to RCN, expect zero customer service support other than "we'll send a truck in a week or so. Maybe."
RCN seems appealing because of its low rates. Just cross your fingers that nothing every goes wrong with their equipment!!! After months of connection issues with our internet service, the modem finally gave out. We rent the modem from RCN. After waiting 5 days for a service call, the repair man claimed the issue was a bad splitter not the modem. Everything was fine for a day, but then the internet was inaccessible again. When we called to report that it was indeed the modem, RCN agreed to send another repair man...but it would take 6 days before one would be available. Also, to get a refund for the days the service was inaccessible you have to call another department and wait on hold again. SO BASICALLY THE SERVICE/REPAIRS ARE HORRIBLE AND THE COMPANY IS COMPLETELY DISORGANIZED!!!Add reply
