Poor Quality Shingles

JOPLIN, MISSOURI -- New roof was installed on home in 2003. I purchased home in 2007. I started having leaking issues in 2017. Roofing contractors said the shingles were brittle and needed to be replaced. I called for warranty but Tamko only allows transferability of the warranty with two years from the date of installation. GAF allows transferability up to 20 years from install and CertainTeed within 10 years. I now have to replace a 16 year old roof that was supposed to last for 30 years.

JOPLIN, KANSAS -- I purchased 30 year Tamko Heritage shingles in 2008 and in 2018 discovered the shingles were in terrible shape. I filed a warranty complaint and received only 22 squares out of 35 and no coverage for accessories or labor. Their product is junk. My advice is to buy a different brand!!!

JOPLIN, MISSOURI -- Ten year old roof and every other tab has lost all the grit/granules off of them, down to the bare fiberglass. Filed a claim and they sent voucher for 33 sq. of the 52 that were installed. Do not want to pay any of the $5800 of labor for removal of their faulty singles and replacement. Will let my lawyer deal with them.

Our deck literally disintegrated before our eyes. The product is so defective! The company that sells this product even told me the company KNEW that the formula was defective. But when I contacted their warranty department, they were all too thrilled to tell me "too bad!" They do not stand behind their defective products and I will be looking to see if there are any class action lawsuits against this company. Don't buy from them!

Tamko Shingles - Massive Granular Loss!

JOPLIN, MISSOURI -- This home was built in 2002 and we purchased it in 2007. We are experiencing MASSIVE granular loss with a great deal of shingles exposed all the way down to the underlying fiber. This home is only 12 years old. We have had several contractors and adjusters look at the roof and they all agree that this is a manufacturer defect. The Tamko warranty states "The Owner may transfer this limited warranty one time during the first 2 years of Term to a purchaser."

In my case I would have had to buy this home within the first two years from the original owner in order to take advantage of the warranty. How many owners actually sell their newly built homes within the first two years? Read between the lines, if you aren't the original owner or didn't purchase within 2 years of being built, you have NO WARRANTY on a product that is advertised to last 20-30 years.

Tamko Shingles are defective
By -

JOPLIN, MISSOURI -- I had a new roof put on my house in May. Over the course of the hot summer the tar on a bundle of shingles did not adhere. After a decent wind in November, a section of shingles (right in a row) tore and ripped off the roof. I called the installer to fix the problem who instructed me to file a claim with the manufacturer, Tamko since the shingles were a bad batch. I had a representative ** from Tamko come out and took a few of the shingles and mailed them to his office to have them evaluated. Of course the representative Dan did not call me back.

I gave him plenty of time to call me back (2 weeks after he told me he would call me) if I did not call someone back from my work I would be terminated for not doing my job. Of course I knew I would be told there was nothing wrong with the shingles and that is exactly what ** told me. He blamed it on the installer. If the shingles were all bad then my entire roof would have blown off during the wind storm. It was simply a bad bundle of shingles. They were right in a row. I could see the wind getting under the surrounding shingles and lifting them but the adhesive tar stripped worked in this section. ** tried to tell me that the installer improperly nailed them.

If the shingles were good then the adhesive tar strip would have kept them together. Shingles are asphalt and the heat would melt them around any surface they cover even nail heads. I called to file the complaint and Tamko said not to do anything until ** came out to take a look. Well it rained in the meantime and now I have water damage on my daughters ceiling. Please do not use Tamko shingles on your home or any other home. Their products are inferior and their customer service is poor. I just want to let anyone who is about to put a roof on your house not to use Tamko shingles!!!

Bad Roofing

JOPLIN, MISSOURI -- We had a 30 yr. roof installed on our home 10 yrs ago! We have been having trouble with this roof for the last 3 1/2 yrs, leaks and water damage! We ended up having to have a new roof put on our house because the shingles were Cracking, Delaminating and Disintegrating! We were told that the shingles were defectives! We filed a claim with Tamko and did what we were told to do! We sent them samples of the roof that were bad along with pictures of the roof! Now 8 weeks later they are telling us that the roof was not installed proper and that they will not reimburse us for the new roof!

The roof was put on by a licensed and bonded roofing company, when we contacted them they said that Tamko will blame anyone to keep from paying out on there bad product! We are out over $8000.00 dollars on our roof, we also had to have 30 sheets of new plywood installed, because of mold and dry rot! When we had a 30 yr roof installed we didn't think we would have to go through this for 30 yrs. Do not ever use Tamko Roofing! This has been a real nightmare for us!

TAMKO Roofing Shingles
By -

JOPLIN, MISSOURI -- I purchased a new RYAN home in 2000 that has a TAMKO roof. The first time I had water damage and reported it TAMKO sent out a local consultant who tried to tell me the shingles was not breaking down and the tar on my home was bird droppings. I had another contract review my roof and he told me that was BULL. HE said he'd never seen shingle break down that fast. Now TAMKO is trying to say the cannot fix my roof because my shingle warranty is void since we had a wind event of 60 mile an hour winds (or more).

I'm preparing to sue them for the repairs on my home. Has anyone having problems with their shingle considered a CLASS ACTION lawsuit? Please contact me if you have this problem. I could use some help from other consumers with the same problem.

Defective Roofing Shingles
By -

JOPLIN, MISSOURI -- About 11 yrs ago I purchased a 40 years rated asphalt shingles from Tamko. 10 years after later, the shingles started to break-up. After reviewing and found my claim valid, Tamko decided to reimburse me for the shingles, but provided only about $700 for the labor involved with the removal of the defective shingles, and the installation of the new ones. I sued, won the case, and Tamko did not appeal, but refuse to pay the judgment. Since I am located in Northern California, and Tamko in Joplin, Misssouri, I find it difficult, if not impossible, to collect. Could anyone provide me with info for Tamko's properties, or assets in Calif? Will be grateful for any info.
