Publix Pharmacy Complaint - Incompetent Employees/Pharmacist - Insulin/prescriptions

Insulin/prescriptions - Complaint
Review by caribmedinc on 2012-01-13
MIAMI, FLORIDA -- I dropped off my prescription the day before and they told me it would be ready the following morning. I went to pick it up at 4:00PM since I needed my insulin and my blood sugar was way out of control. After waiting for over 20 minutes since they were talking to another customer and the other 2 employees were just there ignoring the long line finally they tell me that only one of the prescription was ready, My insulin pen (that I needed STAT) was not ready and finally when they got around to it they told me I needed needles. I asked for the needles and I was informed that I needed a prescription. They should have told me that the night before. They had to call my doctor for a prescription. I could not wait any longer since my blood sugar was out of control. I left very upset and went to my doctor to get an insulin shot. This is not the first time I have problems with Publix at Lakes of the Meadows in Miami.

I think the op may have thought syringes came with the insulin, but that's just my guess.

Some Prefilled Insulin Pens come with the needles in the package. Most do not. The OP most likely thought, as Skye sugested, that this script did.

I can see how this would be extremely aggravating. It is impossible for the pharmacist to know if you may already have a supply of syringes at home. It would have been nice if they had asked, though. Sometimes its just that one simple step that makes a difference between a satisfied or unhappy customer.

Buy syringes in bulk from canada without a prescription.

With a disease like diabetes, it's important to get your scripts filled/refilled before you run out, otherwise you run the risk of having issues like this.

You have reason to be upset but you should be upset with yourself not with the pharmacist. Pharmacists must follow the laws that govern their practice. This is just the way it is. I am really surprised that you were not educated by your physician as to what exactly you needed. If you did not understand what you were getting into you should always ask questions. The pharmacist probably thought that you had Syringes at home. Please, pharmacists cannot keep track of each patients inventory. This is your responsibility. Next time when you get a prescription, ask the doctor a few questions. He or she is not God. Do not be afraid of him or her

You can purchase pen needles without a prescription, you just have to pay for them without insurance.
