Very Poor Service at Alltel
By -

We have been into our contract with Alltel for 18 months. Most of that time we have been unable to receive service at our home, and there are two cell towers within 5 miles of our home. We live in South Carolina but had better service while on vacation two months ago in the states of Washington, Oregon and California. We purchased a $200 phone at start-up, local store attempted to fix the problem by replacing the phone three times. We ended up with a free phone that did not work any better. And when asked about a refund, we were told "So sad, so sorry, you lose."

Many numerous attempts to correct the problem have been made. I have even requested customer service reps give me a direct line or they call the phones so they can experience the HORRIBLE reception. My request is declined! I've asked to be allowed out of the contract for one phone at a prorated amount.

This phone is for my disable husband who stays home alone all day with the intention he could use the phone while in the yard in an emergency. Wonder if he had a real emergency and needed to use the phone would Alltel be liable? I have received very poor customer service along with paying 18 months on marginal cell service. I would not recommend Alltel to anyone for any reason.

Good, Bad, and Ugly

While I've little to complain about concerning Alltel's cellphone service. I live in an area where there is no cable, no DSL, so my only other option was either satellite internet, or Data Card via my cell provider. I can't say enough bad about Alltel's service in that area, I've never heard more excuses, side-stepping the issue and blaming the consumer for obviously flawed equipment in my life (well except for DirecTV and that's another upcoming review).

The unit worked pretty well for a few weeks, then it was barely faster than dial up. Not a good thing considering what they charge. After numerous calls to "customer service" I never got the same answer from any two reps. It was amazing, how well they can lie their way out of things... They have never succeeded in fixing the problem, it just got progressively worse over time. My contract with them is up and I'm NEVER going to use Alltel for anything again. You'd be better off connecting tin cans with strings as to use this system they have.

Not So Free Voice Mail
By -

I was in an area where the phone had not any service. I called my voicemail from a landline to my free voice mailbox to check my messages. The cell phone had not been turned on for a week due to the lack of service. When I checked my online billing, I was charged a minimum of 10 cents a minute for calling my voice mail for air time "usage". According to my terms of service I would only be charged a fee for my voice mail if I used the cell phones airtime. For my week, Alltel has charged me over 6 dollars in fees.

When I called them they told me "We are sorry, that is just the way it is." All of this was in broken singsong English by the way from someone in Pakistan or India who would not give me a last name. I have only used their service for two months and there will not be a month number 3. I filed a FTC complaint against them for unfair practices and deceptive practices. There is no email address for their customer service as well as they deflect a lot of calls. They dropped my call from a landline to their landline so they did not have to deal with me.

Rude, Ignorant, Unreliable Service

FORSYTH, MONTANTA -- I got an Alltel account 2 weeks ago, since then I've called them a total of 5 times for them to fix my problem. My problem is that someone else's name shows up on the caller ID and no one I call will answer because it's not my name. I got this in case of emergencies but it does me no good since I can't get anyone to answer my calls. I've called 5 times, spoken to representatives who were beyond rude and supervisors who guaranteed to fix the problem within 24 hours, do the math, it's still not fixed. This is bull.

I then asked for the tech support number since they all said they were the ones who had to fix it and I was told they didn't have a direct number, what's up with that? However I did get in touch with them and they told me no request was ever put in to make any changes. And until there was there was nothing they could do. What the hell is the point in having the damn phone then? I will posting negative comments on all sorts of websites, and all over Myspace about their crappy business techniques, their personal attitudes, and their lack of communication with other departments.

Scammers

ANITGO, WISCONSIN -- I went into Alltel about a month ago and first of all the customer service was horrible! The lady that activated my phone did not tell me anything about it (pay per day)! I thought since I had unlimited texting I got picture messaging too. NOT!!! It charges 25 cents every time I send a picture message! They were lucky I check my balance a lot! Next I noticed my bonus minutes were missing. I found out that for every minute some leaves a message on my machine it takes one minute off of my account! And when I run out of bonus minutes it will take 10 cents off! So if someone left a 10 minute long message it would take 1 dollar!

I know I might sound like kind of a cheapskate but it really adds up! And even if you push ignore it still takes 10 cents off! When I called to find out the information about it the people were so rude!! I am so mad!! They are such scammers!!!

Worst Cell Phone Company Ever!
By -

DETROIT, MICHIGAN -- This has got to be one of the worst companies in existence as far as customer service goes. First of all if you are trying to do anything, you can't even talk to Alltel. You have to talk to a 3rd party company called LetsTalk.com and the major problem with that is that they don't know anything! That and the employees are rude beyond belief. I tried to sign up for a family plan 4 TIMES and each time I did, they told me that a deposit was required because of my credit score. My credit score is 810!! About as high as you can get! When I asked why, they always said they didn't know. Why? Because they weren't Alltel!

So finally I got fed up after about 100 emails and 4 hours of my life I will never get back spent on the phone with these people, and agreed to pay the deposit. I was told my phones would be shipped the next day. Well, the next day I got an email from them saying my order was cancelled "As Per Customer Request". What the hell? I never cancelled the order! I emailed them back 3 times and never got a response. There's no way I would ever get on the phone with these people again. Now I'm battling them in trying to get my $400 back that they charged on my card and won't give back. Like I said... WORST COMPANY EVER!!!

Tired Of Being Cheated!!!

VALDOSTA, GEORGIA -- Hello!!! I am an active duty service member in the Air Force. I have been cheated out of $600 by Alltel. I have been receiving duplicate phone bills from two numbers. One phone was a number I had in North Carolina. I changed the number when I got to my base in Georgia to a local number. I got two bills, each were close to $500. I paid the fist bill because they said that I had gone over my minutes. I paid $483.74 and that doesn't include the fee of $200 to change my plan. I received another bill of $430. I confronted them about it and refused to pay until it was fixed. That is when I found out that they had kept the old number in North Carolina active instead of cancelling it.

After I confronted them about the bill (while I was recovering in the hospital from surgery). They subtracted $229 all just to report it to Alliance-1 credit collection agency. They did acknowledge that the reason why I was paying so much for the bills was because I was being billed for two phone numbers but I have not received any adjustments to my bill nor did they refund any of the money from the first bill that I received. IF THERE ARE ANY MORE ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS OUT THERE WHO ARE BEING RIPPED OFF BY ALLTEL PLEASE TELL YOUR CHAIN OF COMMAND AND SPEAK OUT ABOUT IT!!!

Blackberry Pearl Is Junk
By -

SOUTH CAROLINA -- Christmas of 2009 I was given a Blackberry Pearl and in less than two weeks it broke. I went to the Alltel store that it was purchased from and they inform me that I need to drive 40 miles to get a loaner. After talking to the tech support they informed me that they would next day air me a replacement phone. Three days later the phone showed up. THIS IS A BUSINESS PHONE and it cost me at least $500.00 a day to not have it operational. Now with this replacement phone, it's only been two weeks and this phone is messing up. I went back to the Alltel store where the phone was bought and they inform me that Verizon has taken over my account.

My bill still comes from Alltel and I've been paying them $200.00 a month for quite a while. I have been with Alltel as a customer for over 10 yrs. Service has gone to hell and I have every plan to change services when my contract is over. The only way I see to rectify this mass confusion with my current service and phone troubles would be to upgrade my phone to a BLACKBERRY CURVE RED IN COLOR. I don't mind paying a minimal fee to complete this task. Contact me with any or all options available at **, my cell number if it's working when you make the attempt.

Alltel Hell
By -

NORTH CAROLINA -- I left Nextel to switch to Alltel in July 2008. First 5 months was fine. Then all hell broke loose. At Christmas, I added my husband and 2 children. I had unlimited texting on my kids lines, which was going to start on Dec. 27. From Dec. 16-24, I called twice to verify on my service. Everything was fine. My first bill came, I tried to pay it with a new account number. Alltel took it out of the old account that cost me with my bank and with Alltel. They want me to pay for Alltel's mistakes. After paying the same bill 3 times before Alltel could get it right. Then I started getting messages saying my bill was extremely high, Alltel had not add my unlimited texting.

Since January 12, my husband and I spend at least 2 days a week on the phone trying to get the bill right. Now it's almost March and I'm still waiting. They are charging me extra 88.68 but nobody at Alltel can tell me what it's for. I haven't had a second bill since I added my family. I have requested a paper bill for 3 weeks. I haven't got that yet. I have spent 50 minutes this morning on the phone. I'm waiting for a supervisor to call me back.

Alltel representatives try to help you, when they don't know the answer, they pass you on to another representative, and you have to start all over again. I've got a notebook with all my notes everybody's name that we have talked to. Where is the end? I'm really sick of it.

Does Anyone Know How To Treat Long Term Customers?!?!?
By -

LUBBOCK, TEXAS -- Do not sign up service for Alltel!!! Let me give you some background. I was a 6 year customer, always paid my bill on time but when I had to cancel after my contract expired here is what occurred. Apparently their contract has fine print stating final bills are not prorated. I'm not under contract anymore but because I canceled in the middle of a contract I still have have to pay the full month which for the life of me can't find out how this is legal. How is it that when a contract expires and I am still obligated to pay after I cancel. I guess the world will never know. Any case never sign up. All Cell phone companies are crooked. Don't get me wrong but this one is the dirtiest of them all.
