Reporting $0 Limit and XXXX balance negative credit impact

American Express has always reflected my account as having a credit limit of $0, thereby lowering my credit score. When I spoke to them about it, they were nasty to me and I should have followed my gut and closed the account. We were in the process of buying a house so I did not. However last fall or summer they imposed a limit (I have the statements) but a limit of $0 is still reflected in my credit reports. (They claim they are reporting it correctly but the report is never corrected.) This year they started chasing my balance as I paid it, that is lowering the limit as I paid yet still the limit of $0 is reflected.

They also report a closed account, because at one point they reported the flexible and the full payment as separate accounts (?). All the misrepresented information on my report decreases my score by at least 100 points. And all the reasons they stated for lowering my limit were directly related to how American Express accounts are reflected on my report.

Cancelled Credit Card

I have had my gold card for 5 years. I have never been late on a payment, and pay it off fully every two weeks. I went to use my card yesterday and it declined. I figured this was an error done by the cashier and paid on my other credit card. I called AMEX to make sure and while waiting, the automated voice said no current balance due, no new charges. I had just paid it off. I got through to a live person, and he simply stated that my card was cancelled due to AMEX running my credit. He could offer no other explanations except there was a letter sent out yesterday saying my credit card was cancelled.

I believe this is unacceptable and loyalty and good track records of payments have no bearing on decisions. I can tell you I was very happy with the service provided, but will never use your services again. I have 3 other credit card and will now use those that appreciate my money and loyalty.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- I had a high credit limit with a 50$ balance. I wanted to get gas at Costco. Amex is not accepted. Today at Harbor Freight it was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life: Cashier was the opposite of friendly told me with rolling her eyes: "The Card has been cancelled." I was shocked. Called Amex. Got notice that my credit ratio was at 86%. That was a big lie. Had a max of 40% credit used in Feb. paid everything off. They told me a notice was sent out 30 days before the account was closed. Another big fat lie.

I talked about this to my family. My dad, moms, brothers and cousins' Amex cards got cancelled. Everyone stated that they will never do business with Amex again. I am looking for people who might want to join me in my effort to have a class action lawsuit against AMEX. Need 20 people or more. Have been looking for some experienced lawyers.

Glad To Be Cancelled

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- I was never able to make a significant purchase. I had to either call from a land telephone line # registered to my name -- one that I hadn't used in 10 years, or get on a conference call with my bank, who was closed on a holiday weekend. The extremely rude customer service reps didn't understand nor care about me not being able to make purchases on my card, and ended up cancelling my card because I supposedly could not verify my own identity.
Luckily I have very good credit, so I'll just go deal with another card company.

Get Rid Of Amex Before They Do It To You...

I have been a loyal AMEX customer for 26 years since 1982. I have never missed a payment having spent millions of dollars on my AMEX card. Yesterday without warning AMEX (by email) advised effective immediately my total company spending was limited to $2,000. When I called to ask why, I was given the runaround with the same BS. My employees will get the wrong message when AMEX declines the charges.

We don't have a revolving line of credit but pay the full amount (about $9,000) to AMEX every month. We have never missed a payment. And they charge annual fees for the right to use their Gold Executive Corporate Card. This is how AMEX thanks us for being a loyal customer. Get rid of AMEX before they do this to you.

Put American Express Out Of Business

Obviously American Express is going out of business and we need to help. I have read many of the complaints here and they are all similar. Card cancelled, credit limits imposed, card declined, higher rates etc. So, save your time reading and just close your account. Forget customer service calls and let me explain why. I worked for over 10 years at a call center that handled American Express accounts and the quality of CSR is poor at best.

AMEX outsources the majority of its customer service, so you never really speaking to anyone with any authority to do anything for you other than pretend to listen. Agents will put you on hold and talk to their friends if you demand a manager (HA!) you will be speaking with the person sitting next to them.

Just like the other complaints on here I have perfect credit and always pay on time. AMEX will lose a lot of money because they charge every company that you use your card at a much higher processing fee than MC or Visa. This is why you see some merchants refuse to take the AMEX card because they lose too much profit to AMEX for processing.

So, help AMEX go out of business. They told me they were imposing a credit limit on my Gold card because I have too many credit cards. So, I will write them and say thanks for the advice. I need to cleanup so I will start by canceling my three accounts with AMEX. Join me in closing all your accounts and save yourself the annual fees. Goodbye American Excess.

Amex Gold Declining Purchases

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- I'm a member of American Express Gold reward card for over than 15 years and it turn out to be big disappointment. Not speaking about annual fee for over 15 years, but spending close to over than a half a million they choose to decline my purchase for $250. And last month they decline my payment as $185. By calling Customer service I identify that all of the workers there just following the instruction from "above". They are scared to lose their job and they are trying to do best, but unfortunately the way it is going now I have to pull out their card from my wallet and ask my wife and daughter to take the card out and cut it. The VISA is the way to go.

So from now on myself and all my family members will be using VISA card only, no AMEX any more. After 15 years I have to say GOODBYE. Friend of mine got in trouble in Italy during his business trip by having Platinum AmEx. They also decline all payment for hotel in there and I have to wire him money over Western Union so he will not lose the flight. American Express is not reliable any more. There is no point to pay height membership fees to have such a problem.

Great Perks/Customer Service

I recently received this card and love it! Initially I was pre-approved for the Platinum Business card and went through the application process. After applying and being approved, I decided that although the Platinum card is nice, I probably wouldn't use all the travel perks they offer for the $400.00 fee. I called them back and the associate on the phone was very helpful in changing me over to the Gold card, where the fee is waived the first year and there is the ability to receive 50,000 bonus points in the first year.

I was able to link the account with my AmEx blue account so all the points went into the same account. Since become a card member last year, I have had nothing short of an excellent experience with the company. I am thinking of opening an Optima Platinum account with them as well for the business for larger purchase. If anybody has an experience with that product, I would love the feedback.

AMEX has also reduced our credit limit drastically after 35 years with not one late payment. I am calling my Congressman. This is just not right. We have excellent credit. I too had my credit card declined at Costco. The only thing I can figure out is they may be in a world of hurt and going under. Couldn't happen to a better company after what we have experienced. Glad I found all these posts, I thought it was just us.

American Express - Worst Customer Service and Rules

The American Express Gold Card boosts no limit. That is not true. Month after month in 2009 they have denied charges because I exceed what they call the normal charge amounts. They charge me $125 a year for this service! I will be closing this card and letting American Express find another customer willing to pay them $125 a year for this terrible service! No wonder the American banking system has gone to the dogs. These type policies discourage good customers, ruin the company's reputation.
