Membership Problem

WHEATON, MARYLAND -- Last August I went to the Bally Total Fitness and asked for membership. I was told that it is month-to-month member. I also to make sure and asked if for example next month if I don't have time to go to the gym so I don't have to pay any fee for the month I don't use and the person who contacts me, he says yes but after one month to become the member I recognized that I was to be fooling. I requested to cancel my membership. This time I was told that if I want to cancel I have to use 12 times free and I can cancel by send a letter.

I came home and wrote a letter to request canceling my membership due to I think I qualify and have the right to do that but they keep saying that it was not eligible and keep asking me to pay for the membership and the service that I didn't use. Today I'm writing this complain so people who want to become a member with Bally need to be careful due to its employees who work there they only want to fool you to become a member and try to make money. So be careful with that!!

11553, NEW YORK -- A few years ago, I thought about joining. Signed up but didn't pay any fees. (Needed to join). I told the salesperson I wanted to think about it for a few days before I put my deposit down etc. I ended up changing my mind and never gave the money, he also called my home 3 times in which 2 times I told him "no I changed my mind" and once my mother told him the same when he called a third time looking for me. I also went to the gym to tell them in person. I later received a bill saying I signed up and was to pay the bill.

When I went to bally's the salesperson told me he paid the fee and it was normal business practice for them. I now received a bill for over 3 thousand dollars. I know this is not normal business practice. He probably was going to see a bigger commission than my sign up fee was going to be. After I received the initial bill I went back to the gym to speak with him and he assured me it would be taken care of and canceled, and it would be no problem since I never been to the gym to work out once...

Not a Membership and Rip Off Scam

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA -- I had seen a commercial for 2 free weeks of membership to Bally's so I decided to go and check it out. When I got there I was lead into this little office where I was told (by the Bally's employee) that the "free 2 week membership" did not exist and it was just a sales tactic to get me in the door. So he then asked me to fill out paperwork so he can go over the gym info with me if I decide to join or not because of liability.

Like a jerk, I gave him my information which he then ran my credit and have been taking $60 per month out (which was supposed to be a $30 per month membership). Also I was supposed to get 3 free personal training sessions and a month supply of protein shakes, snack bars and a bunch of other stuff to supply me for a month. Well lo and behold, that never happened and when I asked them (several times) about it, nobody seems to know what I am talking about. These guys are losers and stealing my money. They lied right to my face. What kind of business is this anyway?

Bally Total Fitness

PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- I must admit that Bally Total Fitness is not the greatest gym in the world but they are the cheapest despite the fact that you have to sign a three-year contract in most cases. The fact of the matter is if you sign a three year contract you must realize that it is a legal binding contract that will be enforced if you don't pay your membership dues. It's simple as that. My wife and I joined earlier this year for $5 down and $19 per month each. Therefore, at this rate, I don't expect Bally to be a top notched facility with all the bells and whistles. If that is what you are seeking then you are sorely mistaken.

For $19 a month each for my wife and I we get to use the cardio machines and strength training machines along with the use of the locker rooms, Jacuzzi's, sauna and steam room. Not bad for $19 per month each. The gym we go to is not the cleanest at all times but then again it's a busy gym. When we take our showers we wear our flip flops especially when we are walking around the wet areas (Pool, Jazcuzzi etc ). We also use hand sanitizer after each use or so of the work-out machines. Bottom line, we get to work out, get in shape, improve our health and meet different people all for $19 per month each. If you want more than that then don't go to Bally!

Bally Total Fitness is scam!

Bally Total Fitness charged me 2 in one month even though according to the contract they allowed to charge only once a month. I had a phone fight with Bally supervisor **. He said that it was bank mistake. Can you believe that? I told him that I will take Bally to the court and to department of consumer affairs because Bally appears in bank statement. Bally gave me refund only after I told them that I would press charges against them.

Horrible service!!! Cancellation - just ONE BIG PROBLEM!!!!

Never sign contract with them!!! Membership cancellation took me 1 month. Because the only 1 way to cancel it - send them a letter (regular mail), where ask them to cancel membership! I have to do 2 letters, because they said that never received first! Never going to come back to them!

Cancellation! HORRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICES

What an absolutely horrible company!! I called and through a 15 minute phone tree I finally reached someone. When I asked to set my account to non-renew they told me they can't do that! What??! I work for a small company that deals with contracts and we can do it. So I get the number to call back when the last payment is taken and guess what - it no longer works! I will never do business with them again! I will also file a complaint with the BBB and if not resolved, will seek legal action!

WHEATON, MARYLAND -- Please do not think about to get a membership of Bally Total fitness. I regret I did it. Now I could not cancel it. Read others' experiences about the cancellation. I experienced exact the same difficulties trying to get rid of it. I think it is their policy and training to hook up people. Their service is bad. Every time I saw malfunction here and there: Closed sauna, cold shower water, broken shower, lack of toilet tissue, etc.

Bally Is A Scam - Stay Out

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA -- It's the most unethical company I have dealt with. I was tricked into sign a membership contract and I was said I could cancel it anytime I want. When I want to cancel it they won't let me and came up with a weird figure which I owe them with some vague explanation. This company is a scam and stay out of it. I would be happy if someone did sue them and get the company bankrupt.
